7 Reasons to Lace Up Your Training Sneakers and Get Active

We as Americans simply aren’t as active as we should be in order to be living healthy lifestyles. Per the CDC’s baselines and statistics, 53.3% of adults meet the Physical Activity Guidelines for aerobic physical activity while only 23.2% of adults meet the requirements for both aerobic and muscle strengthening activity. This is why my research question is why should we as human beings care about our health and fitness? In my research, I want to uncover why one should care about the state of their body. In addition, I hope my research will present the reader with a new found benefit that would impact their life in a positive way when implemented.

1. Investing in Your Future Self

Investing doesn’t always have to mean taking paychecks and putting them in the latest new tech stocks. Instead, you can devote a portion of your day and dedicate it to getting active in order to invest in the well being of your future self. I include healthy habits in my life, such as engaging in weight training sessions and eating more nutritious foods, because I can feel my body have more energy and operate more efficiently when I do these things. To support this, I may add a study on the health complications you would be subject to without proper health maintenance.

2. Improved Physical Health

In a sense, your body is like a coupon for seasonal fruits at your local grocery store; you either use it or lose it. The human body to be used and active in order to remain functional. An example from my experiences would be realizing the way my body feels when I’m being active versus not. I find that when I get my daily exercise in, my body feels a lot more loose and fluid than if I were to skip out for the day. Research I may include would consist of a survey of gym-goers to see if they experience what I do when it comes to how they feel on a daily basis.

3. Improved Mental Health

//

A very overlooked component of fitness is the positive contribution to mental health it will have on you. Mental illnesses affect tens of millions of people in America and getting active has the potential to increase the satisfaction of life in a person. When I eat right and sweat a little bit, I consistently notice my mental clarity goes up in addition to stress and anxiety levels becoming minimal. I feel this should be a big point in my research since I find it to be an overlooked factor to overall health so I would look to include multiple studies showing mental state improving by fitness, possibly including which chemicals in the brain that are responsible for it.

4. Getting Better Sleep at Night

While there isn’t definitive evidence that sleep and exercise have a direct correlation with each other, there have been studies that suggest so. I think if I could find some sort of evidence that supports the idea that exercise benefits sleep then I believe that would be widely valuable in my research. In my life, I know there seems to be a finite amount of energy I have throughout any given day and if I don’t get my exercise in, more often than not I hardly get my quality sleep if any at all.

5. Gaining Sense of Accomplishment

Getting in a good exercise session is one of the many ways you can improve your overall mood by having that feeling of accomplishment of good doing. I like to get my workouts in during the morning and I’ve found that by getting a sweat in early gives me something to be proud about in myself and gets me going on the right path to have a productive day. From a research standpoint, I think a poll asking how people feel after a workout would serve best here and provide a stronger claim here than any type of study would.

6. Improved Self Image

Wanting to look your best is a big motivator for wanting to get active in many individuals. While there are many more benefits than just achieving your ideal figure, doing so can lead to a more confident version of yourself. I personally want to feel comfortable when looking at myself in a mirror so I make sure to stay consistent with my training in order to insure a positive self image of myself. This is another area where I see a poll would fit best, maybe asking people why they workout to see if self image is included or ask if self image is a motivator for them.

7. Gaining a Sense of Community

The most common place to exercise is in a gym where they will see hundreds, if not thousands of people each and every day. In my experiences with the gym, I’ve met lots of great people who share a common goal of getting better each day and they’ve absolutely helped me in my fitness journey when I’ve needed it the most. For my research, I’d have to poke around and see what type of information is out there regarding gym buddies and if there’s any type of scientific evidence that could support it.

Conclusion

In all, I think I have 7 strong points that would make for a convincing argument after finding sufficient evidence to back it up. I believe the points offer well rounded insight into what proper fitness and health includes and would make a good attempt at providing a new motivator to the reader in their personal fitness journey. Again, this issue is important because well-rounded health and fitness is missing from many peoples lives and can be a big contribution to living a more enjoyable life. Next I will write about my research findings and present them in a more informational format rather than from a persuasive standpoint.
