Intensifier Rule


RULE: 'Very' is used with an adjective to express degree:
It is very hot.
Canada is very large.
She is a very good dancer.


RULE: 'Really' is also possible with an adjective to express degree:
It is really hot.
Canada is really large.
She is a really good dancer.


RULE: 'Really' can be used with a verb to express manner:
I really like it.
She really hates me
We really work hard.


RULE: 'Very' cannot be used with a verb to express manner:
I very like it.
She very hates me
We very work hard.

My friend is very enthusiastic about hockey. He likes playing the game and likes watching hockey during the championships. I don't watch hockey very often. It is probably really fun to play, but I don't skate very well.
