Definition: A comma splice is the use of a comma to join two independent clauses. Although acceptable in some languages and compulsory in others (e.g. Bulgarian or French), comma splices are considered errors in English.

Comma Rule: Do not join two sentences with a comma. This is called a comma splice error.

INCORRECT: It was getting late, I was starting to panic.

CORRECT: It was getting late, and I was starting to panic. (Try this one!)

CORRECT: It was getting late. I was starting to panic.
