Quebec Policing In 2023.

My Personal Journey.

First of all, I will talk a little bit about myself and my will to one day being part of this big family. Becoming a police officer has become a dream of mine when I turned seventeen years old. When it was time to apply to a school, I questioned myself a lot in regard of what kind a person I want to become. Deep down, I always knew that I wanted to help people and give back to the community since it gave my family and me great opportunities to flourish and live a comfortable life. I also really enjoy driving because of the liberty it gives me. This combination of self interests gave me an answer as of what career I want to do in the future. With that in mind, I want to work for the city of Montreal because I have grown here the vast majority of my life, and I am more comfortable to work since I know a lot of people that lives here. All in all, this article is going to inform you about what it takes to become a peace officer and about the job itself.

How To Become A Police Officer In Quebec.

To be a police officer in Quebec is not an easy task. You will have first to be accepted to a college that offers the Police Technology program. In Montreal, there are three schools that has it: College Ahuntsic, College Maisonneuve and John-Abbot College, the only one in English. After this, you have to go to a boot camp located in Nicolet for fifteen weeks.

Choice 1 : Which Department Can You Work.

College Ahuntsic

The Boot Camp.

It is called Ecole National de Police du Quebec, and it is located in the town of Nicolet. Here, you will have to spend the next fifteen weeks and learn the technicalities of the job. It will make you into a real police officer after this very hard stage. It most definitely will not be easy and will demand a lot of effort both physically and mentally. The most fun part are driving the actual police car and shooting a gun at the range. I really look forward to this stage, I cannot wait to drift the car like a maniac!

Choice 1 : SPVM.

Choice 2 : SQ.

ENPQ

SPVM.

For me, I look forward to working for the city of Montreal. They offer a great retirement after twenty-five years. The human resource is also phenomenal and actually care about the employees of this department. I will most likely will have to do a lot of overtime because there are a lot of vacant positions at the moment. However, I will be greatly remunerated for my service and I do not mind it at all. This is my dream to serve the people of Montreal!

Choice 1 : The End result.

SPVM car

SQ.

If you really want to see a deer fly by your windshield, you can work for the provincial police! Starting your career here is definitely more remunerated with a better starting wage then if you were to work for the city of Montreal. However, after six years the salaries are essentially the same. Must be nice starring at a highway for your entire shift, at least they get the premium wage!

Choice 1 : The End result.

SQ

The End result.

Now this is the fun part, actually being a police officer! It is most definitely not an easy job. Starting with a very loaded and long schedule. You can most definitely expect four long ten to twelve hour shifts but at least you have three days off unlike the regular work schedule of having Saturday and Sunday off. This job will test you both physically but most importantly your mental status. If you cannot control your emotions or have hard time coping with bad events, this job might not be the one for you. We see what the common men and women will never see ever in their life. It will be filled with a lot of human misery, and it is important to talk about it if it makes your job harder. At the end of the day, this career is very rewarding because you get to help people and there isn't always bad moments but quite good ones like helping the elderly. All in all, even though I haven't even started my career, this is truly the most wonderful job there is.
