Being a Teacher Is Not Very Easy.

My last year in the Cegep of Saint-Hyacinthe.

I had been studying in the cegep of Saint-Hyacinthe for the last three years. It was my last year and I only knew I was going to be a teacher. I had to make a choice: History teacher or Physical Education teacher.

Choice 1 : History teacher.

Choice 2 : Physical Education teacher.

cegep

History teacher.

At the university, I always got straight A's and graduated in 2028. My old high school hired me few days after. It was strange to me to work with teachers that taught me years before, but they seemed very happy to work with me. However, there was only one teacher, Charles, he seemed a little bit angry at me, I don't know why.

Choice 1 : Go confront him.

Choice 2 : Let him be.

PHD

Physical Education teacher.

I graduated from the University of Sherbrooke and sent my resume to my old Cegep. They hired me. Before teaching, I had to do some training about sexual harassment about what to do if I was a victim or a witness, what are some of the usual misconducts people might think are okay, how a perpetrator may think, what a recipient could feel, and much more. A few months later, a colleague started flirting with me, I didn't know how to react and what to do.

Choice 1 : Tell her to stop.

Choice 2 : Flirt with her.

NO

Go confront him.

I went to talk with him, I wanted to know what was going on. He didn't know what I meant, he said he was sorry, but it was his way of being, and it was not the first time people would think he was angry at them. He excused himself and invited me to drink a beer.

Choice 1 : I accepted.

confront

Let him be.

I decided to talk about it with the principal, I told him it was maddening, and he told me it was not a big deal, it only was his way of being, he suggested letting him be and I did so. The principal also told me I could get a premium wage if I wanted to be a Futsal coach in the school.

Choice 1 : I declined his offer.

Choice 2 : I accepted his offer.

conversation

Tell her to stop.

I didn't feel very comfortable, she was insisting even if I told her to stop, she would not listen. But I remembered the training I got when I got hired, so I went to talk with the principal about my situation. He completely understood and helped me. He suggested going to see a psychologist to talk about what I lived. Few after that woman got fired, and other men accused her too.

Choice 1 : Day in court.

stop

Flirt with her.

I decided to flirt with her. A few days later, she asked me to go out, I accepted, so we went to eat to a Mexican restaurant. She drank some margaritas She felt good, she repeated multiple times that that was her best night in a while. At midnight, a male came to our table and asked her what she was doing, it was her boyfriend, they left while arguing.

Choice 1 : The next time I saw her.

restaurant

I accepted.

He told me he knew a bar nearby we could go watch a game and take a beer. We talked a lot, he was such a nice guy. He told me his background and why he became a teacher. Some years before he had to do a huge leg work when he worked in an enterprise, but he was not happy in that work even if he had a good salary and pension.

Choice 1 : The end.

sport bar

I denied.

I had to say no, I told him I had some important stuff to do. It was false, but he believed me. Instead of going out with Charles, I went to my house. Some months later, just before summer, I went to see the principal and asked him if I was going to get paid during the summer. He laughed so bad and just said yes.

Choice 1 : The end.

The end.

When we left, I was happy I met such a great guy, he was very humble. The very next day I received a call from the principal, he told me Charles killed himself and let a suicide note in which he said I was the only person that has ever been nice with him.

I told him I could not, I was barely getting the ins-and-outs, I was still doing the OJT, so I had a lot of things to do, so I had no time. He looked upset because of my answer.

I accepted with a condition: To get a bonus if we eventually win the championship. He agreed. In the first practice I realized they were such talented kids. I knew it was possibly to win.

I almost got fired.

After I denied the principal's offer, I realized he did not like me anymore. He tried to fire me arguing they could not afford my salary. I told him it was a bias because I didn't want to be a Futsal coach, and if he wanted to fire me, he had to break my contract and pay me anyway.

Choice 1 : The end.

Day in court.

A colleague denounced her legally, so I became an important witness. I did not like where I got sucked in. I said to myself this could be a way to deter her from harassing people. This also was a good way to dread other teachers of doing that. She finally got sentenced to 2 years in prison.
