High school is over.

Finally, I'm graduating from high school! After 5 long years at Jean-Baptiste Meilleur High School, I'm off to CEGEP. But the applications are coming in fast, and I still don't know which program to choose. I had an appointment with my guidance counselor, Laurie, and she told me about the radiation oncology program. I have no idea what it is, but I know it's part of the health field. So, I decided to go to the Ahuntsic open house to learn more about the work. A few months go by... I finally had to make up my mind, I have only one choice!!!! Should I go to Ahuntisc or Dawson?

Choice 1 : Ahuntsic here I come!

Choice 2 : Dawson here I come!

people graduating

Ahuntsic here I come!

I've been accepted at Ahuntsic! I received my schedule and start on August 29. I finally understood that this job involves treating cancer patients with X-ray machines. Pretty fascinating! Only one big problem. I HAVE 9 CLASSES. I'm literally going to die. If I keep them I won't have enough time to revise, as I'm working to pay for my studies and transport. Should I go to my API for advice?

Choice 1 : Little chit chat with my API.

Choice 2 : I can't handle 9 courses.

college Ahuntsic

Dawson here I come!

Unfortunately, I wasn't accepted to Dawson. The program was limited and only the strongest were accepted. Still, I really wanted to be in the same school as my friend for this new course. Maybe the French courses will be better for me? I'd better reapply to Ahuntsic.

Choice 1 : Ahuntsic here I come!

Dawson collge

Little chit chat with my API.

I met my API, who will be following me along the way. I explained to her the heavy workload that the 9 courses would entail. She made me understand that techniques in general, but especially health techniques, are very subject-intensive. I could, however, do my technique over 4 years or remove the basic courses. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Do the program on 4 years.

Choice 2 : Remove the basic courses.

counselor appointment

I can't handle 9 courses.

It's not even 2 weeks since I started school, and I'm at the end I'm dying. I get up very early in the morning and come back very late at night. I don't have time to revise, and I'm already behind in my organization. I'm just too tired. If I go on like this, I'll be submerged in DEPRESSION. No! No! MY mental health comes first. I'm finally going to see my API for advice.

Choice 1 : Little chit chat with my API.

I'm sad

Remove the basic courses.

Even though I've only taken off 2 basic courses, I'm not able to keep up. I procrastinated a lot because I didn't know how to manage my stress. And that was it! I failed biology and cancer. What are my parents going to say?!?! But the oncology course was very interesting. We talked about the different types of cancer and their characteristics. I don't think school is for me. I'm quitting. I'm going to go and work at the Mcdonald's next door for the time being. I'm going to re-enroll for next year in another program. Start again.

Choice 1 : High school is over.

I'm loving it

Do the program on 4 years.

I finally decided to do my technique over 4 years to have more time to study. I feel so much better. I can also take some time off to see my boyfriend. 3 years have gone by, and it hasn't been easy. The biology and oncology courses were the hardest. I don't know how I managed it. Next year I'm starting my internships! Finally! But I still don't know where to go. Should I choose the CHUM or the HMR?

Choice 1 : The CHUM here I come!

Choice 2 : THE HMR here I come!

I'm happy

The CHUM here I come!

Wow, I can't believe I'm finally in training. I'm glad I'm at the CHUM, because it's pretty easy to get to. All I have to do is take the metro and get off at the Champs-de-Mars Station on the orange line. The internships work like this: each month we're placed in a department. I start with “planning”. Here, I take images of the patient's body to locate the tumor. I also make immobilization accessories so that he can repeat the same movement every day and be as precise as possible when the X-rays are sent. However, I have the choice of working with Laurent or Magalie. Who will be my instructor?

Choice 1 : Hello Laurent!

Choice 2 : Hello Magalie!

I love the CHUM

THE HMR here I come!

It's my first day at HMR. I'm pretty stressed. I'm told I'll be starting in the treatment department to administer the patient's daily dose. My instructor's name is Vincent. Before starting, I decided to go to the bathroom. As I entered the bathroom, I caught a whiff of smoke. That's when I saw an old man smoking a cigarette. He was frightened when he saw me and ran out, leaving his cigarette in a garbage can marked: COMBUSTIBLE. Big flames appeared. Everything happened quickly. The fire department finally arrived, but half the building was burnt down, so I can't do my internship here! I was so sad that I had a heart attack and died afterwards. Start again.

Choice 1 : High school is over.

HMR here I come

Hello Laurent!

I finally met Laurent. He seems very, very nice. He's tall, with brown hair and blue eyes. He explained to me how the computer system works. For example, how to send a “page” to communicate with the doctor. However, 1 week goes by, and he starts acting strangely towards me. He often compliments me and cuddles me. I feel uncomfortable, but I don't want to push him away and make him angry. Should I continue training with him or ask to change instructors?

Choice 1 : Week 2 with Laurent.

Choice 2 : change instructor

Hello Laurent

Week 2 with Laurent.

After 2 weeks, things still weren't going any better with Laurent. Although I explained to him that I wasn't comfortable with him touching or flirting with me, he continued. He told me he'd give me a good grade if I let him. This is becoming sexual aggression and manipulation! I cried so much. I didn't feel well so I didn't study for my final exam in planning. So, I failed. I don't want to come back here. I should have gone to HMR.

Choice 1 : THE HMR here I come!

Hello Magalie!

I finally met Magalie. She doesn't seem very nice to me. I don't have a good feeling about her. She explains that she's going to train me in the dosimetry department, so I'll be able to calculate the dose to be sent to the patient while avoiding healthy tissue as much as possible. I'm very stress bu I need to take a foot in the door. I'll be placed with Clara, another student on placement. I feel she's really going to help me succeed, because she's strict. With her I'm going to learn the ropes! However, she's extremely tough, and I feel a lot of pressure. Unfortunately, I'm very shy about telling her. Should I tell her anyway?

Choice 1 : Big chit chat with Magalie.

Choice 2 : Say nothing.

Hello Magalie

Big chit chat with Magalie.

I had a chat with Magalie after our training day. She didn't mince her words with me. She explained that this was the world of work. I had to pull myself together. I'd have to learn to manage my stress and that I'd always have to manage the behavior of my future teammates. This is no time to cry, she's probably right. I should concentrate on succeeding. 3 weeks later I finally took my exam and... I passed! Now I'm wondering if I want to go work somewhere else or stay in Quebec after graduation.

Choice 1 : Toronto here I come.

Choice 2 : Stay in Québec.

the big talk

Say nothing.

I couldn't say anything to Magalie. I was too afraid she'd get angry with me and he'd show Clara favoritism. I calmed down and simply continued to listen to his instructions and advice. I passed my final dosimetry exam. I'm still wondering whether I want to work elsewhere or stay in Quebec when I graduate.

Choice 1 : Toronto here I come.

Choice 2 : Stay in Québec.

too scare

Toronto here I come.

I decided to go and work in Toronto. Unfortunately, there's a virus going around. The Tik Tok virus! We're in isolation!!! Anyone who catches it can't stop dancing. Everyone's going crazy. There's no toilets paper left in the stores. Now we all have to wear masks. Another pandemic awaits! I can't travel. It's better to stay in Quebec.
