I'm studying Sciences at Montmorency College to become a pharmacist. It's my final year of college, and I'm perplexed. I'm not sure which university I want to go to.
Choice 1 : Go to the University of Montreal.
Choice 2 : Go to the University of Laval.
I am happy that I have chosen to study at the University of Montreal. I love the professors here, and I'm happy that I am close to my family and friends. After two years of study, this is my last year at university. I wonder what I can do after finishing my studies.
Choice 1 : Work for the army as a chemist.
Choice 2 : Work in a research laboratory as a chemist.
Choice 3 : Start your own chemical company.
I decided to move to Quebec and live on the campus of the University of Laval. I have been living here for 2 months, and it's almost the end of the semester. I'm tired of all these exams and I miss my family and friends. I seriously wonder if I want to continue my studies. What should I do?
Choice 1 : Continue studying at school and finish my degree.
Choice 2 : Quit school and drive a bus.
I decided to join the army. I receive a modest salary with benefits since I work for the Canadian Forces. The Sergeant Major has just told me that he is forming a group made up entirely of chemists to work on a top-secret project. He wants us to synthesize a chemical that is easily diffused in the air and has the ability to attack a person's nervous system. The amount that we have been asked to synthesize is enough to kill millions of people! What have I gotten myself into?
Choice 1 : Agree to join the top-secret group.
Choice 2 : Refuse to join the top-secret group.
I have been working for 5 years in this laboratory looking for a cure for cancer. The equipment I use allows me to produce the compounds I want, and infrared spectroscopy allows me to check the purity of these products. My data tells me that it is better to add spores of a new species of mushroom that grows in Brazil to treat cancer. I don't know if it's a good idea since I don't know the effects of this fungus on humans.
Choice 1 : Add the mushroom spores to the treatment.
Choice 2 : I get scared and change careers.
I started my own chemical company. However, since I didn't know much about business, my company failed to grow. It stagnated for a few years. My employees began to see that they didn't have a future in my company and began to quit. I wasn't sure what to do.
Choice 1 : I close the company and begin work at a research laboratory as a chemist.
Choice 2 : I went back to school.
Orders are orders, and the Sergeant Major did not give me much choice. I started to work with a dozen other chemists for several months. After some time, I discovered an error in the protocol, and I think I know how to fix it. If I alert the others, I could be responsible for the death of millions of people. If I keep quiet, the chemical weapon project could be delayed or abandoned. What should I do?
Choice 1 : Fix the problem in the protocol.
Choice 2 : Say nothing and hope that the reaction doesn't work.
After giving it some thought, I refused to join the top-secret group. I'm not a murderer. There was no way I could agree to join this group. The Seargent Major wanted me to stay later that night for a special meeting. I had my doubt, and I wasn't sure if it was safe to stay. Now what?
Choice 1 : Stay late and wait for the Sergeant Major.
It's already too late to go back. Also, if the experience goes wrong I might be putting myself at risk. By adding a catalyst to the reactants, I lower the activation energy of the reaction allowing the reaction to take place. A few days later, I learn that the Canadian forces intend to drop a chemical bomb on Syria. I was so disappointed in myself, I decided to go back to university and start again.
Choice 1 : Start again.
We start the reaction. A few minutes later, an alarm sounds, indicating that the radiators are overheating. It is clear to everyone now that we have miscalculated. We must provide more energy for the reaction to take place, but the radiators can't handle it. Everyone panics and tries to escape. It's too late. The radiators have reached their maximum capacity. BOOM! .
Choice 1 : Start again from the beginning.
I decided to stay late. It was getting dark outside, and I was still waiting for the Sergeant Major to arrive. The flasks and test tubes on the workbench seemed sinister in the gloom. With the harsh fluorescent lighting inside the lab and the darkness outside, the windows became as reflective as mirrors. I started to feel claustrophobic, the windows reminding me of the terror I felt as a child when I was trapped in a house of mirrors. To reduce my anxiety, I turned my back on the windows to face the wall instead. That was a mistake. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain between my ribs. I had been stabbed. As I winced from the pain, I spun around to see the Sergeant Major standing over me. "No loose ends! You know too much already," he growled. Everything went dark. I said, "Tomorrow, I will be a grave man."
Choice 1 : Start again from the beginning.
Since the perception in Ottawa was that the number of people with cancer has been growing, the government has recently allowed us to do preliminary tests on humans. I just administered the cure to the volunteer and he suddenly began to convulse. After a moment, he stopped convulsing and jumped on my colleague to bite him. My colleague also started to convulse. They both seemed out of their minds. Each was splattered with blood from the other. Both began chasing me. I ran to my office, locked the door, and took a gun out of the safe under my desk. I could hear them outside my door. "Get away from the door!" I shouted. "I have got a gun!" .
Choice 1 : Try to scare them away with the gun.
Choice 2 : Kill them both and destroy the treatment.
Choice 3 : I started to feel strange.
I filled a syringe and injected myself with the suspension of mushroom spores in saline.
Choice 1 : I started to feel strange.
They no longer had any control over their actions. The mushroom spores were probably the cause of their psychosis. The spores had made their way inside their nervous systems. I could see discolouration around their eyes and bulging lumps where the mushrooms were growing under the skin on their necks I did not have a choice. I was in imminent danger of being attacked and becoming infected like them.
Choice 1 : Bang-bang, I shot them.
Choice 2 : Bang! I shot myself.
I fired my gun, and they ran straight toward me. I struggled, but they overpowered me. They infected me, and I lost consciousness.
Choice 1 : Start again.
I could see that they were beyond help, so I shot them to save myself. They died quickly and painlessly. There was nothing left for me to do but return to university to start again.
Choice 1 : Start again from the beginning
My colleagues were clearly in pain, and I was responsible. I felt terrible. I did not want to face another day knowing what I had unleashed upon the world and shot myself. If reincarnation exists...
Choice 1 : Start again.
Slowly, my skin turned grey. I developed an appetite for blood. I left my office and found a college student waiting at a bus stop. She tasted amazing.
Choice 1 : Start again from the beginning
At first, my parents were disappointed, but after a while, I got married, had kids, bought a house, and lived a happy life. In the end, I retired to a beach condo in Florida.
Choice 1 : Start again from the beginning
I continued my studies, enjoyed it, and became a leader in my field of study. I got a tenured position at an American university, leading a quiet but productive life of scholarship and teaching.
Choice 1 : Start again from the beginning
The End.
