My last year of high school ended suddenly with a global pandemic, I had no graduation, and I had to cancel my summer plans to stay away from people in my basement. The only thing I knew at that time is that I wasn't ready to go to Cegep. But I had two options that I liked, pursue culinary school and become a chef or get in to humanities at Ahuntsic College.
Choice 1 : Culinary school.
Choice 2 : Go to Ahuntsic College.

Culinary school is a great way to follow a passion of mine wile learning a lot of real life situations. The school offers real life experience at its own restaurant, it cost 243$ a year to learn all about preparation, cooking and cleaning food. Internships are available at the end of the program which is a great way to learn the ropes and that type of experience can become very handy in the future.
Choice 1 : Becoming a chef.
I ultimately decided on this option because I didn't know exactly what to do and culinary school was to big of a commitment. I was interested in two programs, commerce management and humanities.
Choice 1 : Commerce management.
Choice 2 : Humanities.
Becoming a chef is pretty easy, it's staying there that is difficult. The job is very hard, it includes long hours, bad bosses and a competitive work environment. At least, being a chef offers a lot of volunteering abroad opportunities. It is a great way to help people in need, and you feel like you are serving a bigger purpose.

At first, I chose this 3 year program because I liked the marketing side of it, and I wanted to do something more specific coming out of high school. Unfortunately, choosing something specific when you don't know what to do isn't the best idea. Commerce management where you learn about how to run a business. I started this program online because of covid, and it was very tough. It was easy to put aside work and very hard to get good grades, it became maddening to be in my basement all day.
Choice 1 : Humanities
After 1 year of online school in commerce management I was ready for something new, I wanted to learn completely different things. The Humanities program at Ahuntsic College offers Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology and Politics courses. I really liked my Politics course last semester, and now I really want to go into international studies at university. It's a program that leads into a lot of jobs with foot work and different internships abroad.
