University tantrum and deciding where to study at.

Ever since entering high school, I have always dreamed of becoming a lawyer. This dream will soon be realized as I'm currently a couple of weeks away from finishing by college education in the Social Science - The Individual program here at Ahuntsic College. I have been accepted, in Law, in two universities : UQAM and Sherbrooke. These two universities are both great and offer a great Law program. Choosing one university is hard, but I have worked so hard for this opportunity, I have to choose. Therefore, before the first of May, I'll have to send my decision.

Choice 1 : I finally decided to go to UQAM.

I chose to go to UQAM mostly because my mom also did her Law degree there. Even though UQAM does not have the best reputation, I understand that my grades are the only important factors, and I shouldn't be discouraged to pursue this degree.Hopefully, going to UQAM will open more doors, not a dead end, and will give me an in-depth formation. Thus, let the adventure begin!

I decided to go to The University of Sherbrooke.

I decided to go to Sherbrooke mostly because it's one of the best Law Schools in Canada, and it offers a complete common Law program. This program will allow me to work in all the provinces in Canada and even New York! Even if the cost of living alone will be high, I am prepared to work extra hours to ensure that my foot in the door is strong enough to eventually earn me an internship.

I have chosen to get involved in the Law comity. This will give me an important advantage over not involved students because the internship race is often competitive and toxic. By learning the ropes and meeting new people in the Law industry, I now have a chance to be selected in one of the best Law firms in Quebec.

I have chosen to live a lonely university life and prioritize outside school experiences. This decision will create free time in which, if granted, I'll be able to gain on the job training in a Law firm outside of the school curriculum. I have an unfair advantage of having a mother who is a lawyer, therefore my foot in the door may not be as hard as planned. Anyhow, this decision will grand me free time to focus on creating relationships and networking in the outside world.

I am excited to start my journey, here in Sherbrooke, in the Civil Law program. This program offers a well-recognized training and is way more focused on the practical training than other universities. I find that this will make my entering on the job market easier.

I have decided to pursue this program in the hopes of being able to study or work abroad. This opportunity could grant me a practical advantage over other students, and therefore, have a complete resume. I will have to set aside my comfort zone and trust myself to gain better assets in the Law field.

Because of my involvement into the Law Comity of UQAM, partners and seniors of major law firms have noticed my interest and global motivation to work. They offered me a job as a junior lawyer at their firm. Congratulation to myself! My career as a lawyer officially begins!

Choice 2 : I did not accept the offer to be a partner at this law firm.

Internship proposal.

Since I have chosen to not involve myself with the school comity, I had to work twice has hard to be offered a level entry job. But, I did! I received an offer from one of the lawyers I met at the 5 to 7 of the UQAM Faculty of Law. Even if I didn't involve myself very much, intelligent networking really helped me catch up!

Choosing the Civil Law program was the perfect choice for my situation. Because of my excellent grades and amazing internships, I was grated the opportunity to work at my dream law firm. This accomplishment will bring anxiety and stress, but, in the end, I wanted this. This is all I have worked for. Now, let's get to work!

By choosing to do the Common Law program, I have made myself available to travel and study at the same time. The offer I received is a testimony of my choices. Now, let the adventure begin!

Even after involving myself in this Law journey, I feel that I need a break and focus more on myself. I will try to explore other avenues.

After being away from my homeland and my family, I have decided to come back here, at home. With all of the experiences and field work related studies, I can say that I am ready for new challenges here in Montreal.

I decided to stay at this law firm for two reasons. First, the idea of being able to maximize my wage and be recognized as a well-established lawyer is soothing. I will stay at this law firm and work hard, as usual.

Changing law firm is a hard process. You have to meet new coworkers and get along with most of them. Also, building a reputation will be difficult, but it's a great challenge for a beginner lawyer. I am looking forward to this new beginning.

Wow. Being a certified partner at my initial law comity offer as a junior is really amazing. I did not expect to be chosen at such a young age, but I will embrace this avenue and try to make myself available to others in need since I am now a partner!

I have decided to refuse the partnership offer from the firm, mostly because it brings too much responsibility and anxiety. Being a junior lawyer was just fine and moving rapidly to this higher position would make me feel the impostor syndrome. Therefore, I will continue my work as a junior lawyer until I feel ready to be a partner.

Networking and making connections really helped me get to where I am. This adventure is only the beginning of my amazing career as a lawyer at this firm. I am looking forward to working there!
