During college, I interned with a real estate agent to gain experience. He told me, "If I were you, I would accumulate money and invest in a property." I did as he suggested, but I soon realized that owning a property had several drawbacks. I had to learn the ins and outs of the real estate business, dealt with office politics, and overcame my lack of knowledge and experience. I also managed the maddening drudgery of paperwork, background checks, and thorough inspections. As I wasn't ready for all of this, I decided to pull out of the deal.

Intern to help a CEO.
During college, I secured an internship in a vacant position with a CEO. I was thrilled to be offered on-the-job training (OJT) so I could learn the ropes from experienced professionals. During my trainee, I was a thoughtful and hard-working employee. I impressed my superiors, and they decided to give me a premium wage. I was overwhelmed by problems, I had to deal with bias and alienation from some of my coworkers, but I refused to let it deter me. I also learned how to handle sexual harassment in the workplace and to report perpetrators of misconduct. I got a foot in the door in the company, and I learned everything I needed to know about real estate. Now I felt confident and prepared to make my first investment. Should I invest in drop shipping or in a restaurant?

I was excited to start University, but I soon realized that the language barrier was a drawback. After graduating from university, I landed a job as a speech therapist and underwent on-the-job training to learn the ropes. I had the opportunity to work in various sectors including the commercial sector, daycare centers, universities, and research institutes, in addition to the public and para-public sectors. One day, my mother told me, "If I were you, I would work in a daycare center or the public sector." So, I followed her advice and started working in a daycare center.
