At 19 years old, I am finishing my last semester of Social Sciences and I have to make a really difficult choice. Since I have to do a technique to become a dental hygienist, I had to do multiple applications to different cegeps in the country. Unfortunately and at the same time fortunately for me, I have been accepted everywhere that I applied my candidacy. Now, I am hesitating between two Cegeps. I, either stay at the Cegep of Saint-Hyacinthe, or I can go to the Cegep Edouard Montpetit in Longueuil.

Choice 1 : Go to the Cegep of Saint-Hyacinthe.

Choice 2 : Go to the Cegep Edouard Montpetit in Longueuil.

Go to the Cegep of Saint-Hyacinthe.

I chose to stay in Saint-Hyacinthe, for a better quality of life. I don't have to pay an apartment because I am still living with my parents. Also, the Cegep is only 15 minutes away from my home, so it's also a bonus. It's been 3 years, since I started my technique, and it is my last semester. I already have two amazing offers at two dental clinics, to become an intern during the last semester. I will be able to learn the ropes of the filed more in depth, and also to have a foot in the door. One clinic offer me a salary, but it is in another city, but the other one is in the same city but as no remuneration.

Choice 1 : Go to the Dental Clinic in another City.

Choice 2 : Go to the Dental Clinic in my City.

Go to the Cegep Edouard Montpetit in Longueuil.

I chose to go to the Cegep Edouard Montpetit in Longueuil since it is only 45 minutes away from my home I don't know if I should get an apartment in Longueuil, or, if I stay at my parents' house.

Choice 2 : To Stay at My Parents'House.

Go to the Dental Clinic in Another City.

I didn't make the right decision. The organization in this clinic is horrible. They clearly don't know what time management actually means. They put too many clients for the short time that we have. I feel so overwhelmed, and I often have to do overtime without getting paid more. There's too much drawback in this clinic I should do something. I, either confront them about the problem or I just leave this dental clinic.

Go to the Dental Clinic in my City.

Since I didn't have to move to another city, it was easier because I didn't have to change my job, and I could really focus on my studies, at first. Now, I got my degree and a beautiful job at a dental clinic in Montreal. I got told by my boss that he really appreciate my work. I got offered to assist him, that includes also a premium wage, but more responsibilities.

To Buy an Apartment.

I didn't thoughtful considerate how much an apartment actually costs. Now my wallet is like an onion, when I open it it makes me cry. In the other hand, it made me realize that I had to work harder to get what I want, by working 2 jobs while studying. I don't regret my choice at all. By working hard my teacher, referred my name to the most popular dental clinic in Longueuil, and they offered me the chance to continue my studies in order to become a Dentist, and to pay for my studies as well.

To Stay at My Parents'House.

It was a great financial move, but my parents separated at the time. It was rough, but I made it. I am now working for the dentist that I had for my internship while I was studying. I've been there ever since, and I am happier than ever. Except the fact that I have this one patient, who moves during a periodontics, and I cut him during the intervention. I didn't know what to do.

Confront Them About the Problem.

I pulled off how to say to their face that their clinic needed more organization, and that a dental clinic is not mouth factory. Also, that we are here to promote maintenance of good oral health not to succeed in breaking the record for the most patients cleaned in one day. Since that day, I have never been much happier in my life. They liked the fact that I am involved in this clinic, and they want me to fix the financial problems that the clinic have.

I think it was the best for my mental health, now I found another dental clinic, and they are organized. However, this clinic is for people who have no money to pay to go to the dentist, and are the worst type of cases. They have severe gingivitis, big chunks of calculus, and cavities on practically all of the molars and premolars. My wage is not enough for all I do in one day. I should get a raise.

Assist My Dentist.

It is a great experience, I had the chance to do big interventions that a dental hygienist don't do usually. I did some wisdom teeth removals and a lot more. I had some much fun doing it. I don't regret it.

I Reject His Offer.

I am passionate about what I do at the moment, even with all the ins-and-outs that my job comes with. More money won't change a thing for me. I think the dental clinic sees how passionate I am because they want me to do the OJT of the new trainee that just finished his technique. I will show him the drive of work that I had when I was younger.

Continue my Studies to Become a Dent.

After 5 years of hard work, I finally finished my undergraduate doctorate in Dentistry. I can now do tooth extraction, wisdom tooth removals, dental implants, root canals, dental crowns and dental bridges. I feel like I am living a dream. I am loving it so far. The HR of the clinic said that there was a vacant position to become an orthodontist. I hesitated a lot I love my job, but It's a great opportunity, and I am gonna take it. Also, this job pays more, so it's a bonus.

Work as a Dental Hygienist for the Clinic.

Becoming a dental hygienist was always my dream so for me this is the right decision. Instead, they offered me a spot to work as a dental hygienist but more as an orthodontist. I will do some Invisalign. This is really tempting I like both so much. I like to try something new so I accept.

It was the first time that I lost control. However, I think it's from those errors that I did become better at what I do. I'm not proud of my mistake, but I'm proud that grew up from that mistake.

I took in charge my mistake. The dentist was actually impressed that I did it all alone. I was really proud of myself, and the patient was reassured and happy with the work that I had done. I did my job well, I provided a good dental care, and I noticed my progress.

I know I can make a difference in this clinic. We have to invest more in the tools that we used to have better results. With time, it should take less time doing a patient. I think that will help develop the clinic more by being more efficient.

I'm not good with those things I think it's best for the clinic to let someone else that care of the financial problems. I'm good with the position that I have now, and I don't want to change it. Besides, I want to finish my career doing what I love the most.

I'm so glad that I asked them a raise because they said yes. They gave me $5 per hour more than I had before. I am going to have the best retirement ever.

I know that I will regret it later, but I am too shy to ask my boss. Besides, I make enough money to provide my life pretty well. I'll just won't go on trips as much as I would like on my retirement.

The daily drudgery of working for the dental clinic is coming to an end. I was expecting to have a great pension, but all of my money was gone. My brother stole all of my money. I was never going to be able to pay off my mortgage. On the other hand, I set aside enough money to pay my retirement. People often judges retirements that they are only for old people, but I was 49 years old when I retired. I will for sure miss the drive of work, but certainly not the back pain that the work ethic gave me. At first, retiring scared me a lot, but not anymore. Now, I will be setting aside my money to go on trips.
