The beginning of university.

It is the sixth week of the semester already, and I be pulling off straight A's from the start, but I am also feeling like taking a break from school... A choice needed to be made.

Choice 1 : Staying at university.

So, I decided to stay in school, and I love the program that I am into. I study in Public relations and international law at UQAM. After that, I would love to become a foreign policy advisor. Plus, my school is offering us the chance to enroll in the most prestigious simulation named, the National Model United Nations (NMUN), in New York, which could be a great opportunity for me to learn more about my career field. The problem is that my best friend invited me to go to her birthday in Miami, during the same period... What should I do?

Volunteering abroad.

I wanted to learn a new language while discovering a whole new country, and that is why I decided to volunteer abroad. I wanted to take a break from university and decided to go to Zimbabwe. I know that it will be an amazing experience. However, that means I have to leave my boyfriend before going or do a I could ask him to come with me. What should I do?

Break up with my husband.

Before I married with my husband, I knew that it would be important for me to set aside some money. I planned on travelling a lot with my family or my friends. I learned how to save money, so we could for exampIe pay the mortgage. Thank God, the government is giving us a pension every month, so I could benefit from that, and use it to pay other bills. I also used to tell myself that the faster I start university, the faster I will start working in my career field to avoid the drudgery, in the future, but right now, the only thing I am thinking about is how volunteering abroad would be good for my mental health. I feel like that is exactly what I needed, a break from everything I ever known. If my husband do not want to follow me in that next experience, that is great, but we will have to put an end to that...

My boyfriend decided to quit his dead-end job to experience this with me. Plus, we have a small candle business and thought was a good idea for us to look for business partners. Personally, I think it was a good thing that he quit this job because it made him unhappy. I truly believe that capitalism should be abolished, but unfortunately it is not that easy. Big organizations like Amazon, has employees that be working overtime. We are powerless in that situation!

Going to New York for the simulation.

If you know me, I am a very shy person who is also introverted. So, it was very hard for me to even speak "loudly" when I was in New York, the day of the simulation. I thought that I failed it, but my teacher told me otherwise, and offered me an internship, in New York. I was really happy to hear this news because I worked hard for that! The on-the-job-training was given to me by my colleague called Aura. She was super nice and helped me learn the ropes. However, I remember feeling overwhelmed, since it is totally different from what I used to learn at school. I had to bring a note pad to memorize, everything that was happening. I remember when I wanted to quit my internship maybe 2-3 weeks after my on-the-job-training, because I felt like it was too much work for me, but realized that it may come in handy. This really helped me to get a foot in the door. After my internship, they offered me a vacant position in New York! Of course, I was happy with this offer, but I do not know if I was ready to move in a whole different city... What should I do?

So, I decided to go to Miami, for my friend's birthday, and saw someone who got sexually harassed. It happens to a lot of girls, more than you could even think. Of course, flirting is okay, but when you continue to do something, when someone told you to stop is crazy! This type of misconduct should be reported. The perpetrators of these crimes must be severely punished. I can't even imagine how the person who has been sexually harassed would feel. The thought of going back to Miami for spring break could fill them with dread. It can have a lot of negative effects on them like depression, anxiety, fear of being judged. They say that the best option is to report it to the police, or human resources, but sometimes, it is very hard for them to speak up about what happened. Furthermore, sometimes the police does not believe the victims, so it is very hard for them to feel protected. After that, all I wanted to do is return home, so that is what I did.

Finally home! I am so happy to be back. I may not have had the best vacation trip or the job that I wanted, but at least I am still alive, and ready for a better experience to happen.

Even if they offered me the vacant position, I had to speak to the HR, so they could set me an interview. During the interview, they asked me if I planned on having vacations in the next months. They also explained to me what were the benefits of working here, what was my salary and pension. Of course, as an employee of UN, they have to do a background check to investigate my criminal record, my work history and my credit record. I had to wait 2-3 days before knowing if I was hired or not. Did I get hired or was I returning home?

Finally, I work as a foreign policy advisor. A foreign policy advisor provides advice on a variety of foreign policy topics. They manage diplomatic relations, promote international trade and provide consular assistance. They lead international development, humanitarian, and peace and security assistance efforts. Foreign policy advisors also contribute to national security and the development of international law. We research and use their findings to advise the government and other institutions on international issues, such as trade, human rights, global food supply, energy, and the environment.
