The life of a Psychologist

A new beginning.

When I was young, I wanted to become an independent woman. I was so excited to graduate, putting that dress and throw the graduation hat. That day happened two years ago, but not how I expect it. It was during covid and the school Mont-de-La salle didn't organize a big prom day, and we didn't have the chance to throw the hat. It was still fine, we were still happy because we finished a big part of our life. Unfortunately, my friends and I split up because we didn't go to the same college. It was easy for me to choose because Montmorency College is just near my house and I didn't want to go far. The problem is which program I want to enter and study for a few years, I had two option in my mind.

Choice 1 : Social Science.

After doing a lot of research on this program, I discovered that I could help people and listen to them, that's what I really enjoy doing. One thing that is not so easy, I will need to read a lot and memorize this is not my strength. I asked a professional to tell me about his background before applying, and they told me that psychology is general. No kidding, I started to panic because you have other options in the program.

They don't want to talk, they are always sad if you don't let them play. Personal I wasn't able to have patience. For my health, I decided to not study or work with the kids. Working with adults can be good, in that communication is easier and adults tend to talk about themselves. I went for a one-day stage where I could see a psychologist helping in adulthood, they had a relationship between them that you can feel the patient's trust towards the psychologist. After 30 minutes, the patient start crying, the psychologist with all calm get up and give him a tissue. The dynamic was sad and silent for 2 minutes. Seriously, if I didn't have to be professional that day, I would probably start crying with the patient. Now I am a psychologist, and I learned how to control my emotion, but that day, my heart aches when the patient left. This was the moment when I had to question myself.
