You determine my future.

Back to prom.

High school is finally over, while everybody’s enjoying their prom night, at my young age, I find myself weighing in my options, my biggest fear is getting a dead-end job, just waiting for retirement. In so little time I have to make life-changing decisions. From this point on, I could take a gap year, apply to college or as my mom wishes, go straight to university.

Choice 1 : Take a gap year.

Choice 2 : Go to college.

Choice 3 : Apply to university.

Take a gap year.

I decided to take a gap year, however, my parents weren't on board with the idea and threatened I either get a job and save up for my future or they'd kick me out. I'm hesitant on what to do. I could listen to them, or... volunteer abroad? I've always wanted to travel around and help a good cause at the same time, that sounds like a win-win situation to me. I mean they can't kick me out if I'm already gone. At the same time, I don't want to disappoint anybody. So, it's either adventure or work.

Choice 1 : Go traveling.

Choice 2 : Get a job.

Go to college.

Now that I've decided to go to college, the harder decision awaits me, which program? My parents suggested Health Science, but I also asked around, and a friend of mine showed me this interesting program called Radiation-oncology. They are both in fields that I am interested in. One of them is a pre-university program and the other prepares me for the professional world right away. It is a close call, I am stuck between the two.

Choice 1 : Radiation oncology.

Choice 2 : Health Science.

Apply to university.

University sounds very serious, but I am excited regardless! I was thinking either Medical School or Biochemistry. I have worked hard to get straight A's and get here. The anxiety of the application process is getting to me. The pressure is maddening. What if I don't get in? What if I don't like my classes? On the other hand, it is a new adventure, and I do believe in fate, so that is what's keeping me sane at the moment. Time to choose programs.

Choice 1 : Medical School.

Choice 2 : Biochemistry.

University

Volunteer abroad.

I decided to travel around and volunteered abroad. But due to my parent's frustration with me they wouldn't fund me anymore, and I am running out of money, one of the disadvantages of volunteering. There's no solution but to go back to my parents' and get a job like they'd required.

Choice 1 : Get a job.

Travel

Get a job.

After multiple interviews, I got a job at the hospital, in the rehabilitation centre more precisely. It feels like I found purpose, I want to make a career out of this. But I still need the money. Do I risk it and go back to school? I hear the University of Ottawa has a great medical-related program. The simpler option would be to go to my hometown College, in the time being.

Choice 1 : Go to college.

Choice 2 : Apply to university.

Job

Medical School.

I received an Email stating that I didn't get into Medical School. My application was rejected, this set back had a toll on my mental health. It felt like I had to start over from ground zero. But I decided to push through and start over. I laid down my options and ended up with two possibilities: I could take a gap year to find myself, or go to college to advance in my academic journey.

Choice 1 : Take a gap year.

Choice 2 : Go to college.

Biochemistry.

I am not a big fan of biology, but chemistry has always been one of my favorite subjects, so it compensates for having to live through the boredom of bio classes. Overall, it has been great! University life is a whole new level of adulthood, that nothing would've prepared me for. With commitment and perseverance, I got my first job in this field as an intern, and I am thriving! The internship is in a laboratory, and it made me love biochemistry even more. You never know what you are going to find in these tests. I am very grateful for how things turned out, I like to believe that every decision I have made, good or bad, has led me to this moment exactly. I still wonder what would've happened if my life had taken a different direction though... Start again.

Choice 1 : Back to prom.

Biochem

Health Science.

Health Science turned out to be harder than I thought, the classes are very general, and we have to cover a lot of subjects and aspects in the course of two years. Though it hasn't been easy, I got to pull off these couple semesters, and get straight A's. As it is a pre-university program, I have to start deciding on what to do in University. There are just so many options. I find myself living the stress of applying all over again. College was just the start, here I am trying to get accepted to a program again. I can't wait for what this next chapter in my life holds.

Choice 1 : Apply to university.

Health

Radiation oncology.

I am finally happy with my choice, my courses are interesting, especially oncology and equipment classes where we learn about radio protection and exposure. Everything's falling into place! Now I could take an extra training course or go straight to working in my field, as a radiation tech.

Choice 1 : Training course.

Choice 2 : Work as a radiation tech.

Radiation

Training course.

This course has led me to get more in-depth training in my field and has helped me appreciate it more. I got higher education, and I don't plan on stopping. However, I am content with what I have accomplished. I still wonder what would've happened had I changed my mind that prom night. Start over.

Choice 1 : Back to prom.

training

Work as a radiation tech.

Getting experience in the workplace is like no other. I feel like I am right where I am supposed to be, as a big believer in fate, I like to think that any path would've led me here. Don't you think so too. Find out, start over.
