Last year of CEGEP.

I am currently completing my last year of study at the CEGEP in natural sciences. In the coming months, I will have to make choices that will be decisive for my future. Will I go to university, if so which one? Will I be admitted as I wish in pharmacy? If I am not, how will I continue my journey?

Choice 1 : Laval University.

Choice 2 : Montreal University.

Choice 3 : Humankind's journey.

Laval University.

I will study at Laval University, but not necessarily in the pharmacy program.

Choice 1 : Pharmacy.

Choice 2 : Physiotherapy.

Pharmacy.

As I had hoped, I succeeded to get admitted to Laval University in the pharmacy program. I am very excited to start classes at the end of the summer. I look forward to learning more about the medications and treatments I will be providing my patients.

Physiotherapy.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been admitted into the pharmacy program at any universities. Instead, I’m going to study physiotherapy, which is my second choice. I’m going to try to increase my grades, so I can get into the pharmacy program eventually.

My first internship: goes well.

I am currently doing my first internship at a pharmacy in Quebec City. I love every single thing about this profession: from preparing magistral formula to verifying the medication delivered to patients. I am going to continue my studies in pharmacy, even if it is very difficult, because I love this job.

My first internship: I am disappointed.

I am doing my first internship in a pharmacy in Thetford, and I am very disappointed to see that this work really isn't the one I had expected. It’s a lot harder to apply work etiquette than what I expected. The way patients tend to react when we deliver health advice is disappointing. I’m going to make a career change and in the meantime I’m going to work as a cashier at Walmart.

One year after my admission.

Throughout the past year, I have worked really hard. I worked to get good grades in order to be admitted into pharmacy. I also worked on myself. This year in physiotherapy has brought me something that will be very useful in my future: resilience. This year also taught me that I must learn to have a more balanced lifestyle, it is not good to spend too much time studying. Indeed, I had to adapt, and eventually I succeeded to see the positive in this program.

Three years after my admission.

I have one year left in my physiotherapy studies and after doing several internships, I realized that I really like this field. So, I decided to stop applying for pharmacy and continue my studies in physiotherapy to work in this stimulating field.

Montreal University.

It’s been three months since I started my pharmacy courses at Montreal University, but I have a lot of difficulties adapting to this city, I don’t feel well about it, and I question myself whether I will continue my studies in this city or not.

Choice 2 : I’m coming back to my hometown.

I continue in this city.

I have decided to continue my studies, even if I feel uncomfortable in this city. On my way home, I had to take the subway, but today I felt even more suspicious than usual. Maybe, I should've listened to my gut because I suddenly felt someone poking me by the arm and shooting me in the opposite direction.

Choice 2 : I’m being kidnapped.

I’m coming back to my hometown.

I decided to come back to my hometown because I didn’t feel safe at all in Montreal. I came back to work in the pharmacy where I worked when I was a student. I’m certainly not a pharmacist, but at least I have a better life quality. However, I should learn to make a budget, because my studies still cost a certain amount, and I expected to practice a profession more profitable after my studies, so it will be more difficult to reimburse them than what I had expected.

I managed to escape.

After a man shot me and forced me to follow him I don’t know where, I saw another man further away. Before my kidnapper saw him, I screamed for help as loud as possible. Fortunately, my savior was in a very good shape, so he managed to catch us and save me from the clutches of my captor. This event will have confirmed my fears about this city: I will definitely come back to my hometown.

I’m being kidnapped.

My attacker took me into his car, tied me up, and then locked me in an abandoned cabin. He gave me the worst abuse imaginable for seven months. Then, he got scared, because I was starting to make attempts to escape, so he killed me because this way I couldn’t turn him in.

Humankind's journey.

Before going to university, I decided to take a sabbatical year to help people in poorer countries. So, I will spend six months in Costa Rica and then see what I do next. When I get there, I see that the vast majority of the population is starving. How can I help them?

Fundraising.

While in Costa Rica, I am starting a fundraising campaign in Canada through social media. I publish several photos that I take in this country to make people aware of the harsh living conditions that many people in the rest of the world are experiencing. Will this fundraiser work?

Choice 1 : Yes.

Choice 2 : No.

My fundraising gets better results then I had expected. Many of my friends took this cause to heart, and gradually people got on board. I raised over $650,000. So, I decided to stay longer in Costa Rica, where I made a spice store where products are sold at a ridiculously low price.

I don’t think I have enough experience with social networks, because my fundraising has really not been successful. It was well-meaning, but I would have had to use more competent people in this area so that it could be more shared. So, I started to wonder how I could help people in a way that I know more about. I finally decided, after four months in Costa Rica, to go to a poorer country in Europe, where there were looking for many workers in the field of pharmacy. However, after a few months doing this new job, I decided to come back to Canada because the working atmosphere at this pharmacy was very toxic. They kept hurting each other.

Calling friends for more help.

I contacted several of my friends in Quebec to encourage them to join me in Costa Rica. I told them how many people there needed their help, but will they come?

Three of my friends decided to come and join me with food they had collected in Quebec. Unfortunately, their plane crashed during their flight, so they never arrived at the destination. Because of this huge mourning that I am facing, and for which I feel responsible, I am going to go go back to Quebec.

As I expected, my friends are to busy to come and give me a hand in Costa Rica. However, they want to contribute, so they are going to set up a project in Quebec to raise people's awareness about the situation of the less fortunate. Two years later, I am back in Quebec, and I decide, with my friends, to create an organization to help people of Costa Rica. Finally, I will not be a pharmacist, but in my own way, I will contribute to the survival of the poorest.
