I am in natural sciences. I learn about chemistry, algebra, but the subject that interests me the most is clearly physics. That's why I am going to apply in engineering in university. Electrical engineering doesn't need an incredibly high R rating, but I surely need to work hard and have great results if I want to be accepted. The problem with natural sciences is that it needs a lot of homework hours. My friends often offer me to party, but I need to study. What should I do with my work-life balance? Which time management do I choose?

I got straight A's, but I do not have many friends since I stopped seeing them and prioritized school. There are very good chances that I will be accepted in mechanical engineering wherever I will apply. There are two universities that interest me; Laval, for its proximity, and Sherbrooke, for it's paid trainee ship. I would learn a lot more about the applied side to this profession. If I go to Sherbrooke, I will need to find an apartment, which costs a lot of money. Do I prioritize my family and my girlfriend or money?

University Laval.

I applied to University Laval and accepted it. I drive approximately 2-hours-per days due to the traffic, but I can see my girlfriend and my family every day. I study two sessions per years, so I have time to travel in the summer. I learn a lot about the theory of electricity which annoys me a bit, but it is still interesting. During falls and winter, there are many parties that people in my program organise. They are very fun, and they are great to meet new people and to think about something different from school. The problem is that my program is hard, and I need a lot of time to study enough and to do all the homework.

University of Sherbrooke.

I got accepted at Universite de Sherbrooke. I rent a not to expensive apartment close to the university, so I could go to school by foot. I drive 4 hours every two weeks to see my girlfriend and my family. I am not as close to them as I was, but my girlfriend comes to see me on the weekends I don't drive to Saint-Agapit. I study two sessions per year, and I do internships in the summers, so I do not have a lot of time to do anything except school. I learn very easily due to the many trainee ship I do during my BAC, and I know very well what the job is. It also leads to me learning the ropes very faster. This means that I will be way less stressed in my interview of my real job. There are many parties that my friends go at night. They are pretty nice, but when I go with them, I don't sleep enough, and I can't concentrate the days after.

Study.

My efforts have paid. I have my diploma and I can finally start to work as an engineer. A teacher has offered me to do a mastery. I could learn more about a specific subject, and I could be specialized in a domain. This way I would have a better pay. The problem is that it adds years of study, which means I couldn't see my family and my girlfriend regularly. Also, I do not have a lot of friends. If I start working, I could find a job near my hometown and start a family near mine.

Party.

I didn't pass my courses. My grades a pretty bad, but I had fun. I made a lot of friends. Some of them told me to try to find an easy job that doesn't need any diploma, but my family and my girlfriend told me to try to do them again because I have potential and, if I really try I could do it. Should I go the easy way or try hard to get a good job I really love.

Mastery.

It was hard, but it really loved to study electrical physics. I have now my mastery, but at the end of a class, my teacher to me, I should to my doctorate since I already did my mastery. This also adds many years of school. There is a job opening near my hometown for an electrical engineer with a mastery. If I take it, I will have time to start a family and work at a job I love with a great pay. But my girlfriend isn't sure if she wants to keep our relation because we do not have time to see each other.

I am working for Hydro-Québec. I really love my job and I now have a family of two kids. I make enough money to travel, and we are very happy. We build a house near our hometown, and we can see my family and my girlfriend's family many times a week. I sometimes think about what I could have become if I did different choices. How could I know?

After many years of working part-time, I had a foot in the door but my boss asked me if I wanted to become the owner of the restaurant. I bought it, and I am now the owner of the restaurant. Being the boss is a lot of work. There are a lot of responsibilities, but my friends helped me. I engaged them, so we are a nice crew. I am now making more money than I will ever have. I have a family of six kids with my girlfriend. When I see where I have become, I ask myself if all this had happened, if did different choices.

Work at a dead end job.

I found a job at a workshop, and I am working full time. I do not really love this job, but it still pays. I got some augmentations in my salary, but I can't go any higher in this company than where I am right now. I have a lack of motivation every morning because this job doesn't interest me. My girlfriend left me, so I am now living alone. I often think about the choices I made and where I would be if I did different things in my past. If only there was a way to know.

Doctorate.

After many years in university, I am finally done with this. My girlfriend left me because she wasn't able to live a life with me being at university for all these years. I gave all I could in school during these past years, so I do not have many friends remaining. I mostly declined their invitations to parties because I wanted to concentrate on my grades and I wanted to be sure these many years of study weren't wasted. Now, I have my doctorate in electrical engineering, so I can apply for a really good job.

I am working in a research center. I do experiments to help companies to invent new things. I get very good compensations, and I really love my job. I do not have much time to spend with my family, but I have some vacation, so I try to see them during these weeks. Even if I love my life, I can't stop asking myself if I did the right decisions in my life.

A few years after my doctorate, I am now a teacher in electrical engineering at University of Sherbrooke. I have a great wage and have time, but I do not have anyone to spend it with, so I travel around the world to discover new places and new cultures. I will be able to have a great and early retirement. When see where I am, I ask myself if doing my doctorate was worth all the people I lost during these years.

I got very bad grades and there are no ways I could get accepted in university. I have to give up my dream to become an electrical engineer. My friends are thinking of going in another country and putting aside applying for a job that doesn't requires any diploma. I don't know if I should go with them or, if I should start working right now.

I have two choices. Either I stay at my student job, where I work part-time, but have a good salary, either I find a full time job in a workshop where I would have a lower salary, but more constant. In both ways, it is a dead end.

We decided to leave in another country for six months. My friends told me they are hesitating between two countries; Mexico or Finland. They are two totally different places with totally different opportunities. We to talk to each other and resolve this problem because some want a place and some want the other place.

The six months have past. I learned a lot about me and about Finland. Most of my friends are going back to Quebec, but some of them are staying in Finland. My girlfriend rejoined us in the third month, and she thinks about finding a job and start a family in this country, but only if I want to.

It has been six months since I left Quebec. My friends and I learned a lot about each other, and we got attached to Mexico's people and how charming they are. My girlfriend thinks about staying here, but only if I want to. If I go back to Quebec, I would have to find a job that doesn't requires any diploma, because this trip took all of my money.

I am now a citizen of Finland, and I have a family of four kids with my girlfriend. Life is expensive, but I was able to fin an easy job that pays just enough. We do not travel a lot, but we spend a lot of time together. Sometimes, I wonder what I would have become if I stayed at school and made it to university.

Stay in Mexico.

We stayed in Mexico, and I was easily able to find a good job that is well-payed. We do not have a big house, but it is still bigger than most houses in Mexico. I have a five kids family with my girlfriend, which works at the same place as me. We have a lot of time to see each other, and we are very happy. My girlfriend asked me recently if I had the chance to change anything in my past choices, would I do it?
