Once upon a time, there live a beautiful little girl named Ysla in the Devou Island. Even when she was little, she loved the ocean. She also loved listening to her Grandma's stories. Ysla's favorite was about the demigod Paui, who stole the treasure of the mother island. And according to her grandma, it upset the balance of nature by stealing the treasure.

Ysla’s dad, chief Brends, believed the ocean was dangerous. The islanders were forbidden to sail beyond the reef. But little Ysla felt a deep connection to the ocean and to all creatures who belonged in it. She wanted to help. And the ocean noticed and it gave Ysla a special gift. When chief Brends picked up Ysla, she dropped the gift. Luckily, someone else picked it up. It was her grandma. She believed that the ocean’s gift to Ysla was the treasure of the mother island.

As Ysla grew, she worked hard to help lead her people and follow her father’s rules. But when Ysla turned sixteen, grandma took her aside. “Its time to learn who you were meant to be,” her grandma said. She led Ysla to a hidden cavern full of ancient canoes. When Ysla entered the cave, she could feel the spirits of her ancestors. They were the voyagers on the ocean.

Grandma last wish was for Ysla to journey across the ocean, and restore the treasure of the mother island.

After losing a loved one to the seas, Brends developed aquaphobia, and forbade his people from journeying beyond Devou's reef.

The ocean calls out to her but her father prevents her from ever venturing out beyond the reef, for the fear of losing her. As Ysla grows up, she is told that a life of being the village’s chieftain awaits her. But her heart is set on venturing out into the ocean.

The islands around them slowly begin to fade away and fall.

Ysla was confused whether she follows what her heart desire or what his father wants.

Ysla decided to sail on the ocean. But sailing on the open ocean was not easy for Ysla.
