The big choice.

To begin with, I am an 18-year-old girl. I live in Mirabel with my parents and my sister. I am going to the Cegep of Saint-Jérôme in social work technology. I am in my first year of doing three, and I have a big decision to make. My big problem is that I have to decide, soon, which university I want to go to. I hesitate between the University of Moncton and the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue. Both universities have the program that I would like to go to, which means social works. For the University of Moncton, I could move to my grandparents and live with them during my studies. The positive thing is that in New Brunswick the system is not the same as in Quebec. In NB, there is a secondary 6, and then you can go directly to university, there is no cegep. Since I have already done a year of cegep, I can go to university as soon as next fall. This would be beneficial, as it saves me at least 2 years of study and in addition I have courses that are credited, because I was in Social Work Technique. The disadvantages, though, are that at the university level there’s not really a practical course that’s much more theoretical and written, so I can’t get more experience in the field, which can hurt me, Because in social work it is practice above all. Also, it’s very far from my family, so I could only see them once a year. For the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue, I would do my entire technique at cegep, and then go to university in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. I want to go to this university because the region, the way of life, is like me, and I really care. In addition, we do not need a very high R-rating to be accepted. Since I am going to have done my technique in social work, the university credits my courses, and it takes away a year of university. So instead of doing 3 years of university, I would do just 2. The negative points are that I would have to find an apartment, and it is expensive, and I would be far away from my parents, but closer to them than if I were in New Brunswick.

Choice 1 : I choose the University of Moncton.

Choice 2 : I choose the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue.

Men or women?

I’m really excited about my first day at university, having been in Moncton for a month. I am very excited and looked forward to meeting my teachers and getting to know my teammates. I had my first class and the teacher asked us to choose between two internship opportunities. We have a choice between working in a shelter for battered women or working in an organization with men with mental health issues. It’s a very difficult choice, because I’m very interested in both of those. I am interested in women’s shelters because I am curious to work with this clientele, and I would like to know more about this issue. This is a subject that touches me greatly and that intrigues me particularly. For example, I don’t know if I were able to work with these women because I think I would tend to put myself in their shoes and bring cases that I see into my personal life and that wouldn’t be good for my mental health. Also, men really interest me, later I would like to work in prison to loan men and this really joins my future career. I have a lot of empathy for men, and it has always fascinated me to understand them. In addition, mental health is a topic of greater interest to me and of interest to me. However, I don’t know if I am able to work there, because sometimes there can be mood swings, and I’m not very good at crisis management, but I could improve, it could be a good challenge.

Choice 2 : I choose to work with men with mental illness.

Country or city?

I went to university, I’m so happy. I see this part of my life as a new beginning. I’m looking for an apartment that would be available for this summer before college starts. I have two choices of different apartments that have different defects and qualities. The first is the apartment in the city center, there is a bedroom and a bathroom, it is located in the basement of an apartment block. He doesn’t have a lot of windows, but he’s close to college, so I could walk there. Everything is accessible on foot, and it is close to my work. The negatives are that there is no parking space, so I would have to buy a very expensive sticker to be able to park in a parking lot. In addition, the apartment is expensive, nothing is included in the price, and it is not very bright. While the country apartment is bigger and brighter, it is on the top floor, it has two bedrooms and a bathroom, it is the same price as the apartment in the city centre. For example, it is 30 minutes from the university, so I have to go by car which involves buying me a university sticker to park me which is very expensive. So, you what would you choose if you wear me?

I love it!

I am really surprised at the working atmosphere in this house. It’s really fun, and I’m learning a lot of new things. The stories of these women really affect me a lot, I’m glad I made this choice.

WOW!

I didn’t think I would be so passionate about men. It’s amazing how little we really know about men. In addition, I love learning more about mental health, and it really helps me open my mind. I really made the best choice for myself.

It's a new start!

I never thought I would adapt to life in the city, but I like it motivate me to do my homework and stay focused. I am going to study in a small restaurant, so I have no distraction and this allows me to be productive.

I really love the country way of life, I’m really surprised, I even think about staying here after my studies. I’m really made for country life all my favorite activities are here. I’m so glad I chose the countryside over the city.
