My life journey

Life in cegep.

I am currently in my third year of CEGEP in nursing. For the moment, I went to do my internships in several places such as the mother-child center, in surgery and in medicine. And among all these departments, I can't decide which one I prefer. However, I have been hired as a nursing Extern at the Mother Child and Pediatrics Center for this summer.

I just decided that this summer was going to be a dream summer. Although I had been offered the position at the mother and child center, I decided to refuse and rather enjoy my vacation.

I've been in the hospital for two months now, and I must admit that I've never hated a summer so much in my life. Honestly, I wonder if I really belong in nursing. Unless, maybe I was just in the wrong department!

I take advantage of the holidays to rest.

This summer, I decided to take it easy and take some time for myself. I tell myself that we have our whole life to work on and that while I am still young, it is time to make the most of it. My only problem is the sticks my parents give me. They keep discouraging me in my projects and telling me that if I continue on this path, I won't have a very glorious future. Plus, I constantly feel alienated from them. We have absolutely nothing in common, and therefore they never manage to understand me.

Choice 1 : Alienating my family.

Choice 2 : Listen to my family's sage advice.

Apply to emergency.

Once my externship was over, I decided to apply for emergency. This department was my last alternative, otherwise it was clear that I was not in my place. And only a few days later, I receive a letter telling me that I was hired, but this time in the emergency room. This chance is the last, either it passes or its breakage.

Choice 1 : Staying in Emergency.

Choice 2 : Quitting nursing.

Emergency

Quitting nursing.

My decision is made, I have decided to leave nursing. It is clear that this area is not for me. It's not like I didn't try, it's just that I don't feel like I belong. But the question I ask myself is what am I going to do with my life?

Choice 1 : Return to study in natural science.

Choice 2 : Homeless.

Quitting

Return to study in natural science.

Finally, I decided to continue my studies and go to Natural Science in cegep. So, I did 2 years of cegep, and then I decided to go to university as a veterinarian. In all, I did 15 years of school and ended up opening my own clinic. And I'm in my 25th year of practice in this profession, and I'm completely satisfied. I'm even thinking of retiring. In my opinion, I could not have had a better life path. Luck and success are two words that represent my journey very well.

Working in a convenience store all my life.

I have been working in this same convenience store for 45 years now. Although I am now the manager of it, I must admit that I found the time long several times. The same routine, day after day and depression on top of depression, I can't stop regretting this famous decision to have abandoned everything. I definitely should have persevered, continued my studies and found my place in a certain field. But, it's now too late, I can't go back even if I wanted to.

Going to University.

I decided to extend my studies, and go to Laval University to become a baccalaureate nurse, also called clinical nurse. These years have passed so quickly, I barely had time to see them go by, and I am already back on the field. At the University, I had many internships that allowed me to learn more about the different departments, and today I am officially made team leader in the intensive care unit. And to be honest been so happy with my life. Everything is going exactly as I would always have wanted.

Working all my life in this department.

I have been working at the mother and child center for 23 years now. Since I did my clerkship and I finished cegep, I never left this department. I really feel like I belong there and my team is outstanding. Also, I really like my profession, however if I had to complain about anything it might be my rather poor salary and working conditions. And although I asked the HR several times for advice, they never really helped me. But hey, we can't have everything in life, and I'm still grateful to have the chance that I have to work in such a great department.

Staying in Emergency.

I managed to do a full year in the emergency room, and I must admit that I did well to give nursing a chance and didn't leave soon as I encountered pitfalls. This department made me realize that I still had a lot to learn and that the field of health is so vast that it is probably sure to find something there. I'm proud of myself and what I've been able to accomplish in just one year. So, I dare not imagine all that I will have accomplished in my life as a nurse.

Getting used to life there.

This summer was memorable, the baggage that this humanitarian trip brought to my life, I will be forever grateful. I saw so many faces blossom, and I managed to spread joy in hearts only by helping them and giving them a little of mine. That's why I decided to take a year off and stay in Costa Rica for a while longer.

Choice 1 : To meet someone.

Choice 2 : Return to Quebec.

Trip

Getting kidnapped.

I would never, ever go back to that kind of country. Of course, I hadn't prepared in advance for this trip, but from there to getting kidnapped, I still can't believe it. It had only been a few hours since I had landed. I just wanted to get to my Airbnb by taxi, but I got tricked. It was this man who put me in his fake taxi with a fake license. I had just had time to set foot in the taxi that it started to accelerate, I was very upset. So, I tried to open the door, but it was locked. So, I fled through the window and left all my luggage there, including my cell phone, and he disappeared in the distance. So, I rushed to call my mother using a public telephone and a few hours later I was already back in Quebec. And finally, I called the Hospital back to confirm to them that I was indeed going to do this clerkship.

To meet someone.

In the end, I did well to stay a while longer because I had the chance to meet the love of my life. Fate made us meet 6 weeks after my decision to stay. Sometimes you have to let go of life and stop worrying and that's what I do with my family of 3 children. We live hand-to-mouth, and I couldn't dream of a better life for my husband, our children and I.

Return to Quebec.

Eventually, I extended my summer vacation for a year. And for nothing in the world I would exchange what I lived. I really don't regret anything, but I think it's finally time for me to return home and finish my studies Nursing. This trip opened my eyes to what I really want to do in life and that is none other than helping people. So, in my opinion, it is clear that I am in my place in this area.

Choice 1 : Life in cegep.

Coming back

Alienating my family.

Like I said, my family and I have absolutely nothing in common. That's why I didn't listen to their opinion. I just did what I wanted and, I don't regret it at all. So far, I'm living the dream of sunbathing and watching tiktoks all day long. Summer vacations are really living the dream and honestly if they kick me out of the house I don't care. It's gonna happen one day or another, anyway.

Choice 1 : Life in cegep.

Alienation

Listen to my family's sage advice.

In the end, I said to myself why put my family on my back. Especially since it would be stupid of me to miss such a chance to work at the Hospital. So, I decided to reconsider my decision and accept this clerkship at the mother-child center. However, we made a compromise, I accepted the job, if I only worked 3 days a week, which they accepted.

Homeless.

After this first attempt to enter the labor market, I tried again once or twice, but without success they did not work either. So, I realized that it was not made for me and that I preferred to live from day to day. Of course, life is not always easy, but only it is not for anyone. But me the beauty of being homeless is that I owe nothing to anyone and no one owes me anything. That's what I call the good life.
