It was the end of high school and the beginning of college. It was a really hard moment for me because I had to make an important choice and my parents were making me anxious. I had to choose whether I was going into computer science or Social Science.
Choice 1 : Computer Science.
Choice 2 : Social Science.
Computer science was really something I was looking forward to studying when I was a little kid. My dad is an engineer in computer science, and it seems obvious to me that I choose the same path as him. Little did I know, it wasn't meant for me. I had a really hard choice to make when I finished high school. I had to choose between making my parent happy and go study what my dad studied or make myself happy and study in the program I wanted. Unfortunately, I made a huge mistake, trying to please my parents. The first week started in college, and I was already getting sucked up with all the homework and activities I had to do. Every time, I would go to school, I would imagine, myself completing the admission file and choosing Social Science over computer science. Don't get me wrong, I loved computer science, but I found it very hard to try to understand something completely new. All the students had an advantage over me because they were prepared. I never had a computer in my life. The first time I had one was when I got accepted to Ahuntsic College, so that is why I didn't know much about computers and programming. I tried my best to go to class every day and to get good grades with the help of other students. The end of the session was coming really fast, and I had a lot of evaluations due, and I started to feel a lack of determination.
Choice 1 : The beginning of my mistakes and my regrets.
If I am writing this section, it's because I did the good thing to do, which is going into Social Science. The second semester, I quit computer science and applied for Social Science, and they took me right away. At the same time, I just had a new job in Mile-end, which is situated on Rosemont Street. I was very lucky and started with a premium wage. I needed to work not for myself, but for my parents, who needed my help to pay their mortgage. They were going to pay me back obviously, but I had to do a lot of overtime which affected the time that I planned to study and do all the exercises given by all of my teachers. I loved being in Social Science. It really made my life a lot easier studying something I like. It sort of gave me a purpose. I wanted to get good grades, finish college and go to UQAM University. Unfortunately, as if my life wasn't fulfilled with drama, my mother lost her job, and so I decided to take a year off to reflect on myself, help my parents, learn new things and above all save money. That is my priority, so I talked to HR, and they accepted to talk to the boss and discuss giving me a raise that I think deserve truly, being one of the best employees.
