My future.

At the end of high school, I had to choose a program to apply to go to college. My parents wanted me to choose something modern like medicine or engineering that could make me a lot of money. Although being financially stables and having an expensive degree is nice, it wasn't what I wanted. I wasn't sure what to do next, but I knew I liked computers and math. Nevertheless, I had two main choices in mind.

Choice 1 : Apply to Vanier College and study Computer Science and Math

Choice 2 : Apply to Dawson College and study Financial Markets and Stock Administation

Computer life.

First couple of semesters pass and it was fun. Classes were hard and demanded a lot of time and dedication but time passes when you enjoy what you do. Initially Computer Science seems hard because learning to program is challenging. Programming requires an extremely logical and methodical approach to solving problems. But, if you learn good time management skills, you can put in the necessary time to learn the discipline and still have time for other activities. I wasn't sure if app developing was my main motivation to code or if it were ethical hacking, I had to choose a branch to continue.

Who knew apps were fun.

App developing was alright. They were fun but just not for me. I felt like hacking might've been a better option for me. I wasn't sure what to do.

Hacking was incredible! It was an unknown talent of mine, every teacher was impressed from how I could take down any firewall. One of my teachers even said at this rate I could find an internship with the government. A classmate of mine, recognized my talent as well. He told me he was failing an important class in his program. He offered me $2500 if I could change his grade from a failing to a passing grade. Me, all broke, really needed the money but this was a criminal offence and knew I could get expelled and lose everything. I taught of it all day but didn't know what to do.

Building a new beginning.

Semesters pass, and I get closer into getting that diploma. We had a big final project worth over 60% of our final grade. We were assigned to create an app from scratch that could help the elderly. I decided to create an app related with groceries since it's hard for older people to walk. Weeks pass and I finish my app. Basically, the app connected you with the grocery's data base to choose your items and ship them to your house trough delivery. It came out much better than I expected it, so I decided to publish it to the public a couple of days before my exam. It was a hit! I had so many good reviews and got the highest score possible on my project. A few hours after my exam I get a call from an unknown number. A man who was fascinated by my work really wanted my unique mindset for his new tech firm. He offered me a straight internship with pay, but it had to be as soon as possible which means I would leave school.

New tech job.

I finished my studies, found a really good job. Not the best paying but it paid the bills. If I land a couple of big clients I could maybe end up by getting promoted, but that's far from now.

Crimes on crimes!

The internship was going great. I was a bit confused in what I was doing at first, but I knew I would learn. I was basically creating this app that linked virtual people's identity's to a bank account. A couple of weeks later I start to realize that these were real people, and they were going to a bank account with the same address, my boss's. I found out that he was doing illegal betting on fantasy football games with real identity's. If he ever got caught, the other people would be in trouble not him. I wasn't sure what to do because I needed the money and the experience. Innocent people could've gotten prison time for my boss's identity theft.

Jail time.

I reported my boss to the police, and he got arrested for his crimes. His court hearing sentenced him to 5 years in jail with 2 years probation plus a $50 000 fine to his name.

I was done with my internship, and I left as quick as possible knowing I was a witness to all this.

Risk and reward.

It was very risky, but I knew that if I could find a way to do it secretly I could make a living. I changed his grade and everything seemed to go perfectly, until the email. They didn't find out I did it by tracing my steps back from my computer, but from an anonymous person. Either way, my life was ruined. Doing fraud at a high academic level was a crime. They kicked me out obviously and fined me heavily, no college would accept me with that background, so I only could get a minimum salary level job.

Live safe.

I decided that it wasn't worth it at all for a couple of thousands of dollars. It was better to get my degree and finish schooling to find a good paying job and work myself up into the position I deserve. I was glad I rejected him.

The trading life.

Who knew looking at charts were so fun? Trading was amazing but very slow for my level. I was so ahead of my class and was making so much money that I could teach the whole class. My ego was getting so big that I felt that I shouldn't even be here. Looking back at big shot investors, I hadn't touched the surface of trading. I met these sketchy guys in one of my classes that said he had a way to make the price of a stock go downhill to buy it at an all time low. It was music to my ears, but I knew it was stock manipulation and was decently illegal and could get serious jail time. They needed a fall guy, someone to buy the block of shares and sell them when the price goes back up again. I looked at my odds, and they were 50/50 to get caught. I was already really talented in trading and could decently make a living without becoming part of a crime, but nothing felt better than millions of the dollars.

The wrong fall.

The day came, and at exactly 3 p.m. I was supposed to buy 1 000 shares of a stock. Time came and I bought it. An hour later I sell it at 20 times the price. I had never seen that much money into my account. I call the guys, so we divide the money, but they don't answer. A day passes, still no answer. I wasn't sure if I should go and see what happened, or I keep the money and run away to another country.

Money maker.

I decided not to do anything shady and just stay in class. I aced all of my classes and was one of the brightest. I was offered the best internship spot at one of the biggest New York trading law firms in the city.

I got there and there were cops everywhere with the FBI. They recognized me and detained me. We all got harsh sentences and had to return all the money.
