My career as a psychologist.

The road to become a psychologist.

To become a psychologist I know I have to perform at school in order to get good grades et get in the program. How am I going to achieve that?

Choice 1 : Be a model and do my homework every week.

Choice 2 : Go out and put aside school. I'm not putting school as a priority.

Choice 3 : Go on vacation and travel.

Psychologist

Be a model and do my homework every week.

To pull off straight A's for multiple semesters at school I need to put aside the social part for some time. Though, with some good time management I could still manage to balance school, work, and social. Sometimes, schools can be extremely maddening because it's challenging, but thanks to my thoughtful teachers, I'm pulling off better grades and thorough all of my assignments. Sadly, last year, I pulled off good grades and became lazy. I was not concentrated on class and didn't succeed. For this year, I don't want to loosen up, and I don't want my assignments to be cursory. I have to keep putting efforts in everything in order to do well at school because in the future, I want to be a psychologist, so I must start to pay attention in class. I'm better than I was before.

Go out and put aside school. I'm not putting school as a priority.

This semester, I don't like my classes and I'm not very motivated. I started skipping a lot of class and the more I skipped class, the more it became optional to me. Sadly, my friends influenced me a lot in this. We started going out during the week drinking alcohol and smoking. One time, on a Wednesday, we went to a bar in Montreal. A guy came to our circle of friends and started dancing with us. At first, he was sweet, and all smiling. More time passed, and he started flirting with my friend even if he knew that she had a girlfriend. He didn't believe her that she was gay so continued to make some advanced to her even if she was refusing. Eventually, she got scared, and he was a predator. There was sexual harassment and my friend started crying. This perpetrator should not be allowed in the bar anymore. He misconducted in every possible way, and we were all scared.

The summer after school, before going to university.

I've decided that becoming a psychologist is really what I want to do. I'm going to to and get as much money as possible during the summer to be able to go to university and not worry about money. I also want to get some work experience.

Choice 1 : I got the job in a community center with disabled people, a job that will eventually help me in psychology, because it's a field related job to my studies.

Choice 2 : I had the opportunity to go volunteer abroad. This won't help me get a lot of money and some work experience in my field of study. However, it is interesting to have this kind of experience in my resume and might give me some advantages in the future.

Summer

I got the job in a community center with disabled people, a job that will eventually help me in psychology, because it's a field related job to my studies.

I was a trainee at a community center when I got the job. The OJT was extremely hard for me because everything was so fast. I could barely follow the employer with all the instructions. However, this job would offer me a big wage. The only drawback to this, was that I spent a lot of time working and had less time for my friends. It took some time for me to learn the ins-and-outs of the whole job. Eventually, I got better and was one of the best employees outs there. Even if, very often the recruitment process is bias toward younger candidates, I managed to accomplish very well all the tasks that were given.

I had the opportunity to go volunteer abroad. This won't help me get a lot of money and some work experience in my field of study. However, it is interesting to have this kind of experience in my resume and might give me some advantages in the future.

I had the opportunity to volunteer abroad in Mexico. Turned out volunteering was the best experience of my life and if I could do it again, I would do it a million times over a dead-end job. The only disadvantage is that you don't earn a penny. However, it is nothing compared to the advantages it procures. The main advantage is that it gives you a purpose and the memories are invaluable compared to having a regular job close to your home. Skeptical people may say that there are many disadvantages about volunteering such as the fact that you can't have a premium wage but if you talk to people who have volunteered, they will tell you that it's an in-depth experience. My friend volunteers this year, and I hope he'll like it!

My first year as a new psychologist.

After several years of extreme hard work and dedication, I have finished all of my studies and got my diploma. I am now ready so start this real job, and get all the excitement that it will bring me. I have waited so long for this.

Choice 1 : In my first yeas, I was not working in my own office but in an educational environment to help some students who have mental health problems achieve their goal. Sadly, with not much experience I got stuck in office politics.

Choice 2 : My final goal is to have my own office, so working in an educational environment was kind of an internship for my future.

The begining

In my first yeas, I was not working in my own office but in an educational environment to help some students who have mental health problems achieve their goal. Sadly, with not much experience I got stuck in office politics.

I worked in a very toxic environment. It was my debut, and I was working there for about 2 years and eventually got to know everybody. Sadly, I wasn't very professional and got sucked up in office politics. More often than not, I hindered someone by talking with them about something else. Hindering and undermining are not very good values in a work environment. Eventually, my boss told me to stop because it was causing damage between the coworkers. I decided to withhold my emotions and be better. After thinking about it, I started to give good advice to the new employers. I warned them to not hinder, to not get sucked up in drama, to not undermine and that withholding is a quality to have. Today, I'm not getting sucked up in, and I withheld many times my rage towards others.

My final goal is to have my own office, so working in an educational environment was an internship for my future.

I got a test drive at a new job where I could eventually be an intern. After the test drove, I was ready to start. I was overwhelmed and super excited to learn the ropes in this new environment. When I set a foot in the door and was on-the-job-training, what came in handy, was the overwhelmed employees. Many of the interns out there say that learning the ropes are the hardest part, but after you learn the ropes, it comes in handy when you are working. I am now looking for internships in order to find an internship that would fit me and eventually come in handy to others.

My bad experiences as a psychologist.

After many years, I released there are many downsides to this job even though I like it a lot.

Choice 1 : The worst part about it is the corruption. It feels like there is injustice everywhere.

Choice 2 : Sometimes, it feels like you are always repeating yourself.

Choice 3 : Sick days.

Sadness

The worst parts about it is the corruption. It feels like there is injustice everywhere.

Some other psychologist I know are extremely corrupted, and it frustrates me because they make more money by not being honest. One of my coworkers abuse a client by always forcing him to come back to another session even though he knows he is all right. Some don't declare all of there money to the government, and they pocket the cash for themselves, so they don't have to pay the taxes. In my opinion, it's stealing, and they are thefts. Corruption is unfair, and it's always done under the table. It feels like you have to be corrupted to be rich in this world. People always have to threat others in order to gain something. My coworker is taking a bribe off of his client.

Choice 1 : I'm doing it too.

Injustice

Sometimes, it feels like you are always repeating yourself.

You often have to use the same technique over and over again. People don't have the same problems, but in general, it is always the same thing. The hardest part is thinking you helped someone, but the next week, he comes back and nothing changed, or it's worsted. Sometimes, even if you put work in there isn't change in the person, it's also difficult to always work in a negative environment.

The stories of my clients.

It's my dream job and every day I try my best to support my clients. Here are some stories I've heard in the past that might interest you, to show you what we have to go through.

Choice 1 : Attention seeker.

Choice 2 : Stress Miss.

Choice 3 : Sport girl.

Clients

Attention seeker.

I call her attention seeker. You might say that I don't have empathy for people, but this is how I don't get attached to my clients and how their situations don't affect me. This girl was at first very charismatic and sweet. However, she attempted suicide many times, just because she wanted attention and not because she wanted to kill herself. One time, she sent a video to her friend cutting herself with a knife. Her friend panicked and she called 911! My client didn't want any of that to happened, she just wanted attention from her friend. Those clients are very common, and they are hard to treat.

Attention

Stress Miss.

Anxiety, it feels like everyone has anxiety these days. This girl was having so much anxiety she cried and had panic attacks before going anywhere. She even started crying in my office because she didn't want to be there. Those situations always make me uncomfortable because I don't like seeing me clients crying. Unfortunately it's part of my job.

Stress

Sport girl.

One patient I related the most, was this girl. She was playing competitive and she had performance anxiety. This poor girl was throwing up before every practice due to the stress and afraid to make a mistake. After, some practices she was crying in the locker room. I feel bad for her because these situations shouldn't happen in sports. You are supposed to enjoy what you are doing.

Go on vacation and travel.

Instead of going to school, I saved money and went on a road trip to West Canada. It was the best experience of my life and I think I would like to live in a van and travel the whole country or go to the United States.
