Sport and me.
Since I was a kid, I always loved sport, but especially volleyball. I started playing when I was in primary school, and I haven stop since. Even though it takes a lot of commitment and effort, playing a sport helped me in school, in my life and even in my future career. In short, being an athlete is great for your health, help you better concentrate in school, gives you a purpose, teach you to be organised and diligent and a lot more. Also, the friends I made on my first team, in grade 4, are still, today, my best friends. However, being in a team as some disadvantages too. For example, getting stuck up in team drama, often your competitor is your friend, getting overwhelmed with all the training, getting hurt physically or psychologically… But overall, when you add up every good and bad aspect of sports, you end up with a positive outcome and personally, I would not change a thing about my sport years. After ten years of competitive volleyball, I retired last year. Now I coach at my old school, and I play with my friends once a week. All my best memories are playing this sport that I love, and with times, I only remember the good parts. The invaluable things that I learned helped me grow as an athlete but also as a person, and I will always be grateful for it.

College Jean-Eudes had one of the best volleyball programs, that why I choose to go there. Being in a team gave me motivation to got to school even if, some days, I did not want to. Because of my learning disability, I always dreaded school. I have dyslexia and dysorthography so for me spelling is maddening. In short, dyslexia is the confusion of similar letters like “b” and “d” and dysothogaphy is the difficulty of spelling any word, even the common ones. No matter how thorough I am, I always miss errors because I simply don’t know or don’t remember how the words are spelled. I am not a straight A’s student, but if a put aside all the writing exam, I have good grades. Today I have access to tools, like a computer with Antidote and Word Q as well as more time to help me with my disadvantage. Because of my poor memory, I often use logic when I face a problem. In time, I realized, that it is easier for me to pull off classes that required comprehension over memory. For example, in mathematics, one plus one equals two, there is no exception. In math, there is a method and organisation so once you learn the ropes, it is easy to apply it to another problem. In short, I like when things are clear and clean, that’s why I choose to go in accounting and management technology.

Volleyball taught me leadership, time management and teamwork, all qualities that come in handy in every career. Also, having sports in your background gives you an advantage in the hiring process because of the benefits it gave you and because employers often look for an athlete to fulfill their vacant position. Additionally, school helped me realized my strength and weaknesses and eventually guided me to the right career. In short, accounting is keeping tracks of the income and expenses of a business or cooperative to make sure that the budget breaks even. Every company has a finance division that oversees contract, investments, capital, and assets as well as salary of the employees. Also, management takes every big decision for the company. One of the mains reasons a chose this career is because with my degree, I could go work for any company. All businesses need accountants, and someone must take decision. So, I could end up in a firm, in a school, in a fashion company or even in a sport company. Also, the salary isn’t bad and often, there is a compensation package with the offer.
