During my last winter semester at Montmorency College in my Tourism techniques, we have to prepare an ''Internship''. At the very beginning of the semester, we had to do our own research on the profession we are most passionate about. In that preparation, I applied with Alitalia airline in Italy and Qantas airline in Australia. I was offered both internships. They are both amazing airlines and have excellent conditions and great reputation all over the world. I Would like your help in deciding which airline I should choose for my last semester internship.
Choice 1 : Accept the Alitalia internship.
Choice 2 : Accept the Qantas internship.
I was super excited to start my OJT (the on-the-job training) with Alitalia airlines, my first choice. After only one day into my internship, I was very chocked on how comfortable I was in the job. I was also surprised to know I would have a premium wage during my intership. Furthermore, I learned the ropes, like how to welcome travelers on the plane, check their boarding pass, and tell them how to get to their seats and where to store their carry-on for the flight. I already knew the basics of those tasks, as I have flown so many times in my life since I was four years old. Honestly, I would have preferred to have been thought more on the security procedures as it is a very important to know and understand the procedures when a problem occurs such as: if a plane crashing into the water or land. ''If I were you, I would of teached you priority on the security before teaching you on how to welcome travelers on the plane.''
Choice 1 : Go tell my teacher.
Choice 2 : Don't tell my teacher.
I will communicate my thoughts on the importance of having a good security training with my internship teacher. I feel I should focus more on the safety of the passengers, the crew and my own. In the end, I will be judged on the safety of those passengers on my flight.
Choice 1 : Pass the exam with straight A's.
Choice 2 : Didn't pass the exam.
I got 90% on my exam. I guess I did understand well. I was fulfilled. Worthwhile, I was super excited and proud that my new studying techniques worked well.
Choice 1 : Didn't pass the exam.
Surprisingly, the exam was very hard to understand. Unfortunately the security chapter was not what I thought it was, I only got a 55%.
Choice 1 : Don't tell my teacher.
My teacher forgot to register me for the safety demo class, so I'm going to act like I didn't know. Although, to make sure I still learn these procedures, I will ask one of my friend in my class, Aminata, who was a flight attendant for Air France for ten years, to explain to me all the safety measures. I hope to pass the final exam, during my scheduled flight to Australia.
Choice 1 : Had a B+.
Choice 2 : Fail the exam.
I was happy to have finally passed this exam. It was a very hard exam, and I was happy I got to study with my friend and got the extra help.
Choice 1 : Fail the exam.
This exam was harder to pass then I ever expected. I failed the exam and got the worst grade ever 20%.
Choice 1 : Got accept at Qantas.
I will grab the opportunity and do my internship with them.
Choice 1 : Work experience.
My co-worker from Qantas company realized that I was quickly comfortable with the procedures. I have had the chance to start traveling at a very young age, so, I was very prepared to start this internship. Quickly, I was moved to the more important and strict procedures and regulations to learn and above all to well understand. I was quickly designated to explain the security measures to the passengers. This was a little harder to remember in the beginning as the list of rules was quite long to remember. A few weeks later, during a flight to London, a gentleman was not feeling well during the flight. I was then asked to handle the situation. I followed all the procedures, and finally I asked the passenger if he wanted us to make an emergency landing. The gentleman said yes, so I called the London Airport Ambulances to let them know and prepared the passengers for this emergency landing at Gate 10. In the end, all worked well, and the patient was taken over by the paramedics and drove off to the nearest hospital.
Choice 1 : Handle the situation.
Choice 2 : Didn't handle the situation.
I handled and managed the emergency situation really well with the collaboration of the crew members. I contacted the paramedics at the London International Airport. Explained to them that we were going to have an emergency landing in ten minutes. The tour confirmed with us to park at Gate10. I was very worried about this patient who was complaining of chest pain. We had to act quickly and efficiently. To notify all the passengers, I had to take the microphone and explain that we needed to make an emergency landing, because a traveler was not well and to stay seated until the passenger had gone with the medical team.
Choice 1 : Test as situation.
In the end, I found out that the sick “passenger” in question was a retired former employee of the company. The company had planned this whole scenario as a test for my qualifying test. Thankfully, I had done all the procedures, regulations, and steps in a very quickly tine frame in regard to an emergency landing.
Choice 1 : Pass my internship.
Since I had to successfully managed the emergency situation on my own with my skills, my internship was a success!
Choice 1 : Take the job.
My intership teacher was happy to offer me a place on their team for after I graduate. He was impressed with the quality of my work. Obviously, I was super happy and accepted the job. It's been my dream job since the age of four.
Choice 1 : Didn't handle the situation.
Personally, I have needed an emergency landing when I was younger because I had a stomach problem on a return flight from my family vacation. That event traumatized me heavily, as I was in a great amount of pain. When this situation occurred on my internship flight, I literally froze and I was unable to put in action the procedures, and so I failed to help the passenger in need.
Choice 1 : Ask for help from the flight attendant, who knew my story.
Previously, I had spoken to Julia, a co-worker, about my trauma in regard to this event. She had offered her help, for the time it would happen if ever I needed. So when I have frozen, Julia noticed and came and took care of the passenger.
Choice 1 : Have been fulfillment.
Choice 2 : Disappointment about my situation.
I was able to manage the situation mostly on my own. I was really proud of how I was able to put in place the right procedures and give assistance to the passenger in need. Its a great feeling to see you can make a difference.
Choice 1 : Talk with my boss.
The employer was really impressed on the way I was able to structure the emergency procedures so quickly and efficiently and how I was able to relate to the passenger and so was able to put him as much comfortable as possible until the paramedics came in. He gives me the opportunity to have a foot in the door and show them what I am able to achieve and the position of a Flight Attendant.
Choice 1 : Disappointment about my situation.
I was very disappointed in myself to see that I was unable to take control of the situation and that I needed to asked Julia for help. I wouldn't of been able to do it alone. Furthermore, I was grateful that she was there to help me, I couldn't of done it without her.
Choice 1 : Discuss with my superior.
Clearly, my employer was not impressed with the fact that I needed to delegate to Julia my task. I wanted to test me and unfortunately, I was unable to fill the requirements with the emergency structures.
