Important choice at the end of high school.

It's the beginning of the spring, and I'm excited because I almost finished high school. I will finally move on to another part of my life. However, I must take a thoughtful decision. I have to choose between going to college and continue studying or going to work right now. If I go to college, I'll study Police Technology to become a police officer. If not, I'll work in a store of some sort, and I'll be able to earn money right away. Both choices are tempting, what will I choose?

Choice 1 : Working at a clothing store.

I am currently studying Police Technology at Ahuntsic College and I love it. I am getting straight A's, and I made a lot of new friends. I learned that college can be very overwhelming if you're not diligent. However, I managed to put aside every distraction, and I pulled off six semesters without failing a single course. I developed a really good time management skill that I'll be able to use during my whole life. I can't wait to complete my training and earn my police badge.

Working at a clothing store.

I have been working in a clothing store for a year now, and it's a lot less exciting than I thought it would be. I had a total of one week of on-the-job-training and since then, I had no other training. I do the same exact tasks every day, and I have no possibilities of advancement. Even if I get a good wage every week, and I'm starting to get the ins-and-outs of the job, I'm really bored and depressed. I am really starting to think that I made the wrong decision not going to college because now I work at a dead-end job.

Choosing between police forces.

I have completed my academic training, and it's now the time to choose where I'll work. However, it's complicated because I'm not only choosing the color of my future uniform. In fact, the police force I'll work in will determine what my every day job will be, who I'll work with, what problematic will I face, and many more. I must choose wisely.

Choice 1 : Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Choice 2 : Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

I have been working for the Sûreté du Québec for 3 years now, and I really enjoy it. My work environment is great, I have good colleagues, and most importantly, there's a lot of action every day. I don't regret my choice at all. Since this police force is the biggest of the Quebec province, I have a lot of career advancement possibilities. For instance, there are vacant positions in the organisation, and I can apply to be an investigator or a highway patrolman.

Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

I am currently working for the SPVM and I like it. I work as a patrolman in the Ahuntsic police department. Every day is different, and there's a lot of action. I have a great partner, and we work really well together. One day, while we are patrolling, we get a call for a robbery in a bank with hostages. We must get there quick, but also we must be careful and safe. What should we do?

Choice 1 : We get there as fast as we can.

Choice 2 : We get there at a moderate speed while being careful.

Police investigator.

I became a police investigator, and I really enjoy it. It's always satisfying to see the conclusion of an investigation, especially when it started from minor information from a source. Today I work on a drug case, and I am going to participate in a police raid to find evidence. I am currently outside the house that we are going to raid, and I wonder if I should wait for my colleagues to arrive before entering inside.

Well-deserved retirement.

I had an exceptional career, and I'm able to retire happily. I have tons of great memories, and I'm ready to move forward with life. I'll certainly miss being in a police car.

We get there as fast as we can.

While trying to reach the robbery, we were way too fast, and we didn't have the time to see a car that turned on the street we were. As a result, we crashed into this car. Also, the driver died because of the impact. We weren't able to get to the bank, and we accidentally killed someone. We should have gone there safely instead.

We arrive at the bank and six other police cars arrive at the same time. We each get to a safe position, and we plan our operation. My supervisor asks me if I think we should enter the bank right away with our firearms, or we should stay in position, and wait to negotiate with the suspect.

We managed to get in there safely, and we arrested the suspect. Sadly, one of the hostages was killed during the process. We could have done better.

We negotiated with the suspect, and he finally decided to get out of the bank, and he surrendered without making victims. Our patience was rewarded. My supervisor thanked me for my advice.

I got inside and saw a suspect. Unfortunately, since no one was blocking the backdoor, he got away and brought all of the evidence. I should have waited longer.

I waited a bit longer, and my colleagues finally arrived. We strategically raided the house, we arrested the suspect, and we found the evidence we were looking for. It was a successful operation.

I did a couple mistakes during the process, but I think for the most part I had a great career. It's now time for me to retire with good and bad memories.

Highway patrol.

I have been patrolling highways for a year now, and it's beginning to be long, and boring at sometimes. The problem is that there's not a lot of action. At least, I have funny colleagues, and they make my days less boring.
