My Postsecondary Journey.

High school is finished.

When I finished high school, I had to decide between two colleges that offer a Social Worker program.

Choice 1 : Go to Vieux Montréal College.

Choice 2 : Go to Sherbrooke College.

Go to Vieux Montreal College.

I decided to go do my technique program, and I loved it. This program was made for me, I enjoyed being with my friends and studying with them. I had straight A's in all of my classes, and this made me happy. It made me realize that it was the right choice to do. I had to do an internship to learn the ropes of this job, but I didn't know where to go.

Choice 1 : Do my internship at a college.

Choice 2 : Do my internship in a high school.

Vieux Montréal College

Go to Sherbrooke College.

I decided to move to Sherbrooke and live in an apartment with my cousin because she lived there too. I had to pay my rent, and all my stuff, so I needed a job. Because I worked overtime at my job, I didn't have the time to study a lot, and it caused me trouble at school.

Choice 1 : Drop out of school and work full time.

Choice 2 : Ask my cousin to help me, so I can drop off work.

Sherbrooke College

Work as an assistant in a hair salon.

I decided to go to a hair salon, and it turned out that it was my unknown passion. I loved being an assistant, and I made everyone happy about their hair. That lifestyle was amazing, I had a lot of tips and a lot of fun. My colleagues were all super kind and caring. I could get used to this lifestyle, and maybe do the hairdresser course?

Choice 1 : Go to a hairdressing school.

Choice 2 : Continue to be an assistant at the hair salon.

Do my internship at a college.

I finally decided to do my internship at a college. It was a good thing because I wanted to work with some college students for a while now. I loved working there because I felt like my purpose was clear, and everybody who was working with me gave me advice on my time management and many other things. I felt grateful to be a trainee there because it was a great environment. I had to choose if I should do my other internship here or at another place.

Choice 1 : Do my second internship at the same college.

Choice 2 : Try at another college.

internship

Do my internship in a high school.

I finally decided that I was going to do my internship at a high school. When I arrived, all of the employees were looking at me weirdly. I didn't understand why until I realized that one of the employees was one of my ex-boyfriends. My internship there was horrible, my ex was flirting with me, I was getting sucked up in all of the work, and I was feeling so overwhelmed.

Choice 1 : Do my second internship somewhere else.

I was working in a dead-end job at the minimum wage, and I did not like it, so I tried to find something better.

Even if my cousin was really sweet, she decided to not help me because she didn't have enough money for the both of us. I decided that I would keep working, even though it is very hard, finish my semester, and then go back to Montreal.

Choice 1 : High school is finished.

no

Do my second internship at the same college.

Because I had a great experience at the college internship, I decided I had to come back. It was an opportunity I couldn't refuse, this was helping me get a foot in the door in this social worker team. I finally graduated from college and was hired at the college I did my internship. I was super happy about it because it had incredible working conditions. My job was so fulfilling, and I felt that I helped a lot of people, so I decided to continue helping my community by doing what I do best.

Choice 1 : High School is Finished.

internship in a college

Do my second internship somewhere else.

After this horrible experience during my first internship, I decided to go to another high school for my second internship. To my surprise, the second internship was not better than the first! I had a lot of problems communicating with the students, they didn't want to help me help themselves, and that gave me a hard time with my self-esteem. I thought that I was going to be good at this job. The only positive thing about this place was that I found the love of my life! The moment I met him, I felt like I was in the right place at the right time. I finally quit my job, but I continued to be with him.

Go to a hairdressing school.

I chose to do the hairdressing course, and it was amazing! I had a lot of clients because I was already working in a salon as an assistant, so a lot of them knew me. I got hired at the salon I was working, and I found out that being a hairdresser was even more fun and enjoyable than being an assistant. I decided to keep working there as much as I liked what I was doing.

Work at a restaurant.

After working at a minimum-wage job, I decided to work in a restaurant. I made a lot of money while working there. My boss was really cute and all my girl colleagues wanted to have something with him. I was the only one who was not fully interested, but one time he texted me to know if I wanted to go out. What should I do?

Choice 1 : Accept his invitation.

Choice 2 : Decline his invitation.

Continue to be an assistant at the hair salon.

I didn't want to be a hairdresser because I knew I wasn't going to have enough confidence in myself to do that. It takes a lot of courage to do this course, and I did not have it. I continued working as an assistant, but I felt like I missed an opportunity.

Choice 1 : High school is finished.

missed opportunity

Accept his invitation.

I decided to accept his invitation, and every girl was jealous of me. Because of that, they decided to go see the manager and tell him what was going on. My boss and I were getting along very well, but nobody liked it. On my next shift, I got fired. I was upset about it, but I had the best time of my life with my ex-boss. We saw each other after I got fired and decided to break up because he had a lot of trouble at work. I was heartbroken, but I had to keep going and search for another job or else I would be homeless too.

Choice 1 : High school is finished.

Decline his invitation.

I decided to decline his invitation because I knew that if I accepted it, I would have been in trouble. I knew I was going to have another chance to have a boyfriend, so I rather keep my job than getting fired because of that.

Try at another college.

I had a hard time being friends with my colleague at this other college. I didn't like the energy that my colleagues gave off, so it was a big no for me. I decided to go back to the place I did my first internship, and because they liked me a lot, they hired me without wasting time!
