The end of college.

The end of college was coming quickly. I started thinking about the next steps. I had to make an important decision.

Choice 1 : Do my first university application.

Choice 2 : Take a break and save money.

Choice 3 : My life as an assistant coach.

My first university application.

It was already time to submit my request to go to university. After weeks of hard work and studying to finish my college program. I totally forgot to look for a program and a renowned university in my field of study. I started panicking. I went online and chose the first university I saw. I was on the University of Montreal's website. I started to fill up the application without knowing what I was doing. I was looking for a program in physical education, but I chose to be safe. I also requested to a program in psychology. When time was almost up to send my request, my mom knocked on my door to ask me a question. I didn't want her to see my application because I knew that I was supposed to do it last week. I knew she would have been angry, and she would have lectured me. I quickly turned off my computer monitor. But, my mom was already in the room looking at me. I turned around and saw her face. She was pissed. I knew I was in trouble when she asked me to open my computer monitor. At this point I wasn't listening, I already knew that I was deprived of video games for the rest of the year.

Take a break and save money.

The end of semester was coming soon, and I wasn't certain in which university to go to. I was thinking about taking a break from school. I knew being a physical educator means a lot of interactions with kids. It is also studying how the body works and how to keep healthy habits. I knew I wasn't ready for that. After the lockdown due to covid-19, I started to lose my healthy habits. Instead of doing sports I was staying home playing video games and watching Netflix. I also lost the interest in reading. I was thinking about taking a break, to focus on myself and see what was going on with my life. I wanted to restart going to the gym or playing basket-ball. I was thinking about helping my high school basket-ball teacher with her new team. This opportunity can help me figure it out, if I really like the atmosphere of working with young people. I am also too poor to pay my education, so if I take a break I can start saving money for the university. Moreover, I will keep my brain working by reading biological books.

My life as an assistant coach.

Indeed, taking a break from school was the best decision I made. I see this type of volunteering as similar as on the job training. I can really interact with others and learn how to become a better teacher. I was reading a lot about the human body, and I found it really interesting. It is also helping me figure it out new training exercise for the basket-ball team that I was helping. At first, it was really difficult to keep the order in a practice. Everyone was talking or doing something else than what I asked for. I had to be stricter, but not too much because I wanted to keep a good relationship with the team. I started asking myself what kind of teacher I wanted to be. My response was, exactly like my high school basket-ball teacher, Cecilia. I had the chance to work with her with this team, so I asked her advice. Cecilia was receptive, she understood my concerns. She gave me some really good advice to show my authority on the team. The only certainty was that I cannot make unanimity to everyone. That wasn't what I was expecting her to say, but I understood quickly what she meant. In a Friday practice, it was really hot inside the gymnasium, everyone was thirsty. The only problem was that I asked the team to succeed a simple exercise in a limit of time to be able to drink some water. But they weren't able to do it. Everyone was exhausted of running and nearly falling of tiredness. It was their breaking point, I had to make sure that they can succeed. So, I changed the amount of time needed for the exercise. The majority was happy with my decision, but one of them was angry. She instantly raised her hand. When I asked her what was going on, she fell into tears, and ran out of the gymnasium. It was my first time seeing a kid cry because of my training, and I was feeling bad. I asked Cecilia to let me handle it, so she stayed with the other girls. I ran out to see this little girl crying in the hallway. I asked her if she was alright, and if she was hurt. She told me that she was too exhausted to continue the training. I asked her to breathe slowly to take her breath back, and to come back in the gym. That's when I told everyone the importance of giving their all in everything the are practicing, because if only one of them if taking a break. The rest of the team is suffering from it. They only have to give their one hundred percent once to get it right. So I asked them one more time to finish the exercise. They finally succeeded, I was so proud of them, and I knew I found the field of study that I will like forever.
