What will you do for the rest of your life?

Choose what you'll do.

You just finished your Cegep, congratulations! You finally made it. While you were studying in Social Sciences, you didn't really know what you would do next, what kind of job you wanted. But now, a choice needs to be made : what job will you do for the rest of your life? It is a difficult choice, but it's time to decide. You have always worked as a waiter, and you love it, so you could continue a career in the same field. On the other hand, you could continue going to school to reorient your career. What do you choose to do now?

Choice 1 : Reorient your career.

Choice 2 : Continue working as a waitress.

You don't know what to choose : think about it carefully

Continue working as a waitress.

During many years, you work as a waiter in big restaurants, small family businesses and hotels. After around 10 years, your body starts to age, and you can feel the hard work in your muscles and articulations. After seeing your doctor, you know that you need to stop that job. But what will you do to make a living now? You have no other expertise nor diploma, who will hire you, and what for? You don't want to be hired at minimum wage at your age because you need to put money aside for your retirement. You can start a program in university to start a career in a new field of expertise. You can also find an easy job that doesn't require any diploma. After looking in newspapers and on job websites, you find two interesting ads. The first one is a job as secretary in an office : the ad says they need someone as soon as possible and there is no experience or peculiar knowledge needed for the job. Your grandmother was a secretary, so it's probably not that bad. The other job is a rich and busy couple looking for a nanny for their three children : the job consists in picking up the kids from school, cooking meals, cleaning the house, helping them with homework and other related tasks. There are phone numbers you can call for both job offers.

Choice 1 : Reorient your career.

Choice 2 : Apply for the Secretary job.

Choice 3 : Apply for the Nanny job.

A waitress job is fun, but difficult.

Reorient your career.

You decided to start a new chapter of your life by studying a new subject. Great choice! After thinking about it, you decide to study in teaching. During your second semester, you get an internship at a school in your city. After a few days, you realize you don't like the teacher you are paired with. You really don't like your experience with him, so you start rethinking about your choice. Do you want to stay in that internship or ask your professor to change school?

Choice 1 : Change internship.

Choice 2 : Stay in the same internship.

Starting a new program is great, but which one?

Apply for the secretary job.

When you call the office for the Secretary job, they ask you to start the next day, without even asking you about your resume. When you arrive at the building on your first day, everything looks messy : the floor, the windows, your desk, even the employees. They don't even offer you on the job training, they just give you the phone and tell you to answer it. Then, after a few weeks of working, the boss asks for you in his office. He makes advances on you, and when you refuse any form of touching, he tells you that your job is at stake. On the verge of experiencing sexual harassment, you run out of the building. When you arrive home, you have a choice to make : there is no chance you ever work for that man again, so you need to find another income. You still have the phone number for the Nanny job, or you can go back to school. What do you do now?

Choice 1 : Apply for the Nanny job.

Choice 2 : Reorient your career.

Apply for the Nanny job.

When you call the parents, they hire you practically automatically. You have stayed with this family for many years, and after a certain period, they start inviting you to celebrate Christmas with them, go on vacation, etc. You pass the next decades of your life with this loving family as you see their children grow up. When they are adults, you retire, and you buy a house right next to them. You didn't have children on your own, but it was as if they were yours.

Choice 1 : Great, you made it!

Stay in the same internship.

After the next few weeks, you start talking with other teachers with whom you really get along well. One of them is the directors' best friend. So, after a while, the teacher speaks well about you to him. The director even offers you a job right after you finish university. Congratulations, your perseverance paid off! You now have a great career ahead of you. That teaches you that even when pitfalls loom in your way, you need to continue going, even if it's difficult.

Choice 1 : Great, you did it!

Change internship.

Your professor authorizes you to change internship, but because the deadline is passed to make a choice about your internship venue, you obtain the only internship no student wanted : an internship in one of the worst schools in your city. There, children scream, fight, don't listen, threat the teachers. One day, a student even draw a grafitti on your own car. When you told the director about it, she didn't want to do anything, because if she did, she would be the one threaten. When you asked teachers for advice on how to deal with this kind of classroom, they all told you that nothing could be done : here, students rule, not teachers. After only one week, you can't take it anymore : you decide to stop studying teaching and to rethink your entire career. This experience traumatized you, you don't want to work near children ever again in your career.

Choice 1 : Reorient your career.

You are done with teaching : time to find another career.
