Work journey

On my way to my first job interview.

I applied to multiple positions in the finance and accounting departments for 4 different jobs in 4 different companies through my LinkedIn account. One of the roles I have applied to is a junior financial accountant where I will perform the full accounting cycle and participate in the month-end closure, perform journal entries and create the balance sheet of the company. One other role is to perform financial analysis in the Financial planning division of the company, in this role I will help the company understand their actual expenses versus the budget allocated for each department and each division, I will also analyze and present any discrepancies to the management in order to understand where they stand in their forecast and how much is left from their spending and if the budget will be exceeded by the end of the year. I have also applied to a position in the internal audit department where I can help identify any failure in the internal controls and in the system and fix any issue by putting the right controls in place to avoid any fraudulent activities and failure in the government audit mission. One last job I applied to is in the Accounts payable department where I will be working very closely with multiple suppliers in order to identify the expenses engaged by the company, make sure they are approved and register suppliers invoices in the system in order to make sure they are paid within the fixed delays in order to avoid penalties and rupture in the supplies needed, this will also allow me to work closely with with the cash-flow team to make sure the company posses enough funds to pay their suppliers. Today I performed my 4 interviews with the 4 different companies, my first interview of the day didn't go very well, I felt I was lacking experience in the field and not ready to take such a high responsibility in such a big role. My second interview went very well, I realized my computer skills especially in Excel would be very helpful and benefits the company with the charts and pivot tables I am able to perform in order to facilitate the analysis and help the company takes the best decision. I completed the interview with confidence and definitely showed my capabilities for this role. Now up to the third interview, I have to admit it requires a lot of energy to perform an interview, so physically it is demanding. My third interview started really well, I have felt being the accounting police in this role, I definitely saw myself doing this role with confidence as I am very curious and like to investigate and understand if any failure in the system is present or any fraudulent activities are being performed. Last but not least is the Accounts payable role interview now, the role as described on paper sounded very easy to perform however once I met with the managers and understood what are the responsibilities lying on my back, I quickly realized this would be a huge responsibility safeguarding the company's asset, a small mistake can cause a loss of millions if transferred to the wrong suppliers accounts number. What a day I have just completed, now time to wait for a call on how my interviews went and if I will get any of the roles I have applied to. After a long night of sleep, I passionately waited for my phone to ring and know what would decide. My phone rings, they called me regarding my interview for the Accounts payable division, I didn't get the job, they explained to me the reasons behind their decision, and I was expecting to hear the same. Disappointed you are telling me, not really I was in fact relieved that this is a huge responsibility for me. My phone is ringing again, I got a job offer for the financial planning analyst, so happy with the decision and the confidence I have for this role, I asked for a 24h delay getting back to them. My phone is ringing again, what the internal audit role is for me too, so happy to hear that I was selected for this role, now I have a serious decision to take, hope that 24h would be enough. I decided to go for lunch with a friend of mine and tell him about my journey, while I was there, I received the final call for the junior accountant role, the role was filled internally by another employee who applied for this job, they said they will keep my application handy for any new roles that opens up. A long night ahead of me to decide what role I will be choosing, called few friends and my mentor at school for precious advice. Here comes the morning and my decision was taken, I have to call now two employers and thank them for considering me and chose the right role for me. Here I am one month later working my dream job as a financial planning analyst.
