Leaving college with my college diploma in Commerce.

I'm finishing my last session in commerce at Ahuntsic College. It was a very interesting program because I learned the basics of commerce on a broad scale. The subjects that I was the most passionate about were finance, investments and financial planning. I'm currently looking for a student job related to my field of study so that I could have professional experience in commerce. Luckily, I recently received a call from Industrial Alliance, and they offered me a full time job as a financial advisor. However, I have to first complete a four-week class with them. I'm hesitant between this job or going to university.

I just started my session at this university, and I find it really hard. There are a lot of classes in comparison of my classes in College. There's always some party or activity after school that is being organised by the students to help new students feel more welcomed at the university. I need to start organise my time for study because it is easy to be distracted by the other students. This week, there is a party that has been organised by some students.

Accept the offer to start the class for a financial advisor job.

I did the interview with the director of the office, and she told me that it will take around two months to finish the class and to do the exams with the AMF. The AMF is the financial organisation in Quebec that delivers the official certificate to be able to start a job as financial advisors. It is longer than I expected, and it will take me longer to study it. I will need to work part-time, and it's going to be hard to have some personal time during those two months.

Go to the student party.

I'm meeting a lot of students in my program that has the same passions as me. Everybody is excited about this new beginning of our lives and they all want to celebrate it that night. Obviously, young students of university really like to drink and have fun. The new friends that I've made tonight want to celebrate to a student dorm so that they can drink and sleep over there. Unfortunately, I have a finance exam tomorrow.

Stay home and plan your school schedule.

I decided to not go at the party because I just started my classes in university, and I felt that I had to prepare my schedule to be able to study and go to work after school. I'll have better opportunities to meet new students where I'll feel more prepare. Now, I feel that I have better control over my priorities. This will help me succeed in my new program. The students that organised the reunion were sad that I didn't come, and they hope that I'll come to the next party next week.

I feel that this would help me have better connections with the students of my class and I'll be able to have more fun. We stayed up late, and I had to wake up early to go do my exam. Having an awful night of sleep, I was really tired going to my finance test. I fell asleep during the test, and I failed my first exam of my semester.

I was able to get home early so that I'll have a good night of sleep. However, I was not prepared enough to do my first exam in finance. I think if I had one day more to study, I'll probably do the exam faster with more confidence. I was a little bit anxious when I did the test, so I had a bad grade, and it's a bad start for my final grade.

I decided not to be distracted by any party related reunion organised by the students because I prefer stay home to prepare for my week of school. The new friends that I made in the school said that I was boring. Now, they barely talk to me because I decided to avoid the student's reunion. I feel kind of lonely.

Finally, I made up my mind going to the reunion that was planned next week. My friends were really happy that I was able to make it to the reunion, and we had a pretty good time together. I made some good connections with some other students, and I felt welcomed on the new student group from my program. Now that I was well-organised with my schedule, I was able to have fun without worrying about school work, because I could do my homework in advance.

Unfortunately, the full training class would affect my schedule and I will not be able to work full-time as I wanted to. I also wanted to relax this winter holiday. Sadly, it was too late to apply at the university, and I will have to take a semester off. I lost a little bit of motivation with this change of decision, so I'm hesitant if I work full-time for the semester or if I take the semester off and trying to find another course related to my field of study.

I decided to stay on this training course even with the fact that it was more complicated than I expected. I'm the type of person that adapt to unexpected events in life, mainly when it comes to my career path. This is an opportunity to learn more professional experience in sales and finance. It's the holidays and all my friend are out relaxing and partying while I'm mostly studying and working every day. They're tempting me to go out with them, and take less seriously my training class.

Choice 2 : Refuse to go out with my friends and study for my classes.

I think I really earned my winter holiday, and I'll have a good time with my friend. I'll try to optimize my studying so that I'll be able to go party with my friends on the weekend. After a few weeks of partying, I find it really hard to stay motivated and concentrate on my classes and I already failed the first test. At the end of the training, I'll have to take 3 more weeks to pass again the exams that I failed. This will lengthen my training, and It will be harder for me to study if I keep the same habits.

Refuse to go out with my friends and study for my classes.

I decided to stay at home to study and work instead of going out with my friends because I have to pass this training class, and I've made it a priority. I explain my situation to my friends so that they can understand why I took this decision. I've told them that for this holiday period I'll focus on passing all the exams so that I could start the career as fast as possible. They understood my plan, and they've told me that I can count on them if I need help with anything. I'm glad I have those friends with me.

Go in a full-time job related to my field of study.

I couldn't find a full-time job that I like or that was similar to a financial advisor job. I passed around 3 weeks applying to job offers and passing some interviews, but I couldn't find something meaningful where I could acquire some knowledge on finance or commerce. Eventually, I got hired as a customer service agent in a housekeeping company. I could practice my customer service skills, but it's not a job that I was passionate about. Also, I regret losing a semester of University.

Go to a small course related to my career path.

Even though I lost a semester of University, I wanted to find good course that could help me prepare for University or even credit some course for the next semesters. Nevertheless, there is too much of choices courses online, and I didn't know how to find a course that was worth paying hundreds of dollars or even thousands. I was lost trying to find some courses. Ultimately, I paid a two thousand dollar course on investment strategies, but it was pretty short. Sadly, the University doesn't credit those types of courses online. I felt like I wasted money on something useless.
