Graduating from college.

After 4 years of hard work, countless night studying for my test and my exams, I was finally able to get the diploma of my dream. Indeed, I am officially a graduate from social service, and I am now henceforth a social service technician. I am sincerely so happy to be a graduating from this program at Cégep du Vieux Montréal because as far I can remember, I always wanted to help others with their problems, their family or personal situation.

Choice 1 : Residential and long-term care centre.

Residential and long-term care centre.

After months of applying for a job in a Residential and long-term care centre, I was finally able to find a job due to a vacant position being available. Residential and long-term care centre was and is a workplace that I always wanted to work in. Indeed, even when I was a young child, I always love to take a good care of elderly people because they are the reason why we, as a society, are where we are and not only that, elderly people bring an enormous amount of wisdom and knowledge to us, the younger generation. This is why it truly breaks my heart when I heard that even though we were at maximum capacity for the number of employee, we were still under staffs for the number of services that we provide. Therefore, our supervisor asked us to do immense hours of overtime in order to compensate that lack of workforce needed.

Choice 1 : Comply to the amount of overtime needed.

Choice 2 : Express my opinion to my supervisor.

It's only been one week that I started to work in this high school and I can't fathom how many time I saw my coworker sexually harassing young teenagers and since I am a new employee, I am truthfully lost about what I should do.

Choice 1 : Mind my own business.

Choice 2 : Denounce those situations to the director.

Comply to the amount of overtime needed.

It's been a few weeks that those shifts of overtime started and I truly feel overwhelmed. I don't know If I am able to continue working on these types of conditions. As a matter of fact, I started to feel extreme fatigue and exhaustion and I don't even remember the last time I wasn't tired. I care deeply about this Residential and long-term care centre and our elderly people but I honestly don't know what I should do.

Choice 1 : Carry on with the overtime.

Choice 2 : Take a leave of absence.

Express my opinion to my supervisor.

I decided that even though I was relatively a new employee in this residential and long-term care centre, I have the right to express my opinion to my supervisor and surprisingly enough, he didn't even care about what I was saying. Indeed, he was undermining my opinion and told me that If I wasn't happy with how the workplace works, I am more than welcomed to find a new job.

Choice 1 : Quit my job.

Carry on with the overtime.

I decided that I wanted to pursue my career in this residential and long-term care centre because I didn't want to abandon all of these elderly people and because I truly care about them and their well-being. A few weeks later, my supervisor came to see me and it was the first time I saw him this kind. He said to me that he truly appreciate the amount of work I am pouring, and he even gave me an increase of my wage.

Quit my job.

I can't believe that my supervisor talked to me in this manner and I sincerely never felt that much disrespected in my life. It truly saddened me that my boss didn't want to understand that us, employee, are working tirelessly for our elderly people and those overtimes are overwhelming for us. This is why, after hours of thinking, I decided to quit my job for my well-being.

Choice 1 : Graduating from college.

Take a leave of absence.

After a lot of thinking, I decided to take a leave of absence because I feel like I am getting sucked up in those overtime shifts that I can't take time to rest and it feels like my mental health is slowly degrading. I need a break.

Unfortunately, I am a coward. I am frankly scared about what it can happen to me if I speak about this situation to the director of the high school because I don't want to endanger my position as a social service technician even though I know some teenagers are being harassed by my coworker.

Denounce those situations to the director.

I decided that my coworker must be stopped because sexually harassing teenagers is absolutely horrific and disgusting. I can't believe that a fellow social service technician would ever do that to young girls and this is why the director of this high school must be informed about those situations.

Fortunately, after several testimonials, my coworker was fired by the director himself without a compensation package. Not only that, but those young survivors took legal actions towards him and brought the offender to justice.

Misfortunes.

Regretfully, because I didn't have the courage to speak about the actions of my coworker, numerous girls decided to quit school and some of them started therapy.
