After College.

After spending the best years of my life at Ahuntsic College in administration, a Social Science program, it's time to make harder choices since this is what will determine my future and whether these college years were worth it. I wonder which option would have the most advantage.

Choice 1 : Go to University

Choice 2 : Don't go to University

At the University.

I chose UdeM. University has always been my purpose. For me, university is a proof of success. But, the difficulty is to choose the branch of study. Of course, mathematics has always been my strong point, in fact my CEGEP program was a mathematical branch, but I have several choices available to me.

Choice 1 : Going into actuarial mathematics

Choice 2 : Going into finance

Bachelor of Actuarial science.

This program has always been what I hoped for. I am so proud to have been accepted. All of my classes went great. I got my bachelor's degree with straight A's. I had a good academic record and was wondering if I should continue.

Choice 1 : Do a master's degree

The master degree.

A master's degree requires more work, so you have to manage your time. I did the best I could, but college life is full of twists and turns, and my friends always wanted to go out, so I had to control myself to manage school, going out, and my student work. Time management was the key.

By dint of going out more than studying, I ended up sinking classes, so my grade wasn't as good and I unfortunately couldn't continue as an Actuary.

After all the exams.

All the effort I put in finally paid off, I finished my master's degree with excellent grades. This allowed me to be hired as an actuary in an insurance and investment company. I am really happy to be an employee in this company, there are a lot of benefits and a very good salary in the beginning.

Forgetting about University.

I decided to tell my parents after graduation that I wasn't going to go to university, that I always wanted to do my own business. My mother was devastated but my father had an idea of a career path for me. He is a human resources manager at the Desjardins Bank, he could get me into a position more related to my school background, but in order to do that I have to go through a training.

My new job.

Once I finished my training, I got a job as a cashier supervisor, which is not so bad for a start, but thanks to my studies and the training offered by my father I can increase my position, therefore my salary. This job is still quite pleasant and well-paid, and I can spend more time with my father, which is not so bad.

My own business.

Making the decision to do my own business was the worst decision of my life. My friend was my associate, but we started to argue a lot, since we were having problems with funds for our business. Maybe, I should have done the training that my father suggested.

The wrong choice.

We decided to keep a business that was going nowhere, we had no investment, we lost our money in the stock for our business, and we have liabilities in the bank. Now we are in debt, with no assets, we have to sell everything.

The financial path.

I went to university to study Finance, even though I was hesitant, I found it rewarding. Thanks to that I became a financial analyst at the bank which is great because I am in something I love.

Taking another way.

I found university was a long haul, so I decided to finish only my bachelor's degree in actuarial mathematics. I am not an actuary, but I was hired at a financial institution. Because of my studies and my bachelor's degree, I am an accountant in this institution, but that doesn't prevent me from climbing the ladder.
