My career path.

Graduation what after?

After my graduation, I was very happy because I finished my three years of study in Biomedical Laboratory Technology with straight A’s but I had to make a decisive choice. Which one of my choices will be handy to have a better life?

Choice 1 : Internship.

Choice 2 : Work.

Choice 3 : University.

graduation

Internship.

The post-school internship would be very interesting, as it gives me more opportunities to attend the job market and see the work in practice. I thought it will be afoot in the door for my field of study. Where do I have to do my internship?

Choice 1 : At a private clinic.

Choice 2 : At a hospital.

Internship

Work.

After having spent several interviews, I had the choice to work in two big places. Will the choice of work be a dead-end job and I will not be able to advance in knowledge?

Choice 1 : Research Center.

Choice 2 : University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM hospitals).

Work

University.

As I was a person who likes to evolve to enrich his knowledge in the field of Biology, so I was perplexed between:

Choice 1 : Masters in Microbiology and Immunology at UDM.

Choice 2 : Bachelor of Biology.

University

Internship at a private clinic.

I was very excited to have found an internship quickly compared to my colleagues who are doing the same internship search.

Choice 1 : Work for one month and I heat it.

Choice 2 : I had a car accident on the first day of my internship.

Clinic

Internship at a big hospital.

The internship in a hospital laboratory is very interesting because I will have the possibility of handling several biological specimens.

Choice 1 : Very interesting work at the lab I learned to use many kinds of laboratory devices.

Choice 2 : My internship request was refused.

Hospital

Research Center.

Working in the research lab has been my dream since I was a little girl who loves science. Finally, I got the opportunity to make at least one of my little dreams come true.

Choice 1 : Research work on insects.

Choice 2 : A group work on the new variants of the COVID-19 virus.

CHUM RESEARCH CENTER

University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM hospitals).

I passed through a stressful period and I worked hard to get a foot in the door in the world of care health. I had to find a job because bills overwhelmed me. Finally, one of my requests was accepted to work in a hospital in Montreal. I got a job at CHUM hospital but I had to make a choice between two places.

Choice 1 : Work at FLEURY Hospital.

Choice 2 : Work at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.

University of Montreal Hospital Center

Masters in Microbiology and Immunology at UDM.

My request for the Master was refused, but the department of microbiology and immunology suggested that I do first a preparatory year and then integrates the Master.

Choice 1 : I accepted the preparatory year.

Choice 2 : I refused the preparatory year.

UDM

Bachelor of Biology.

I chose to go back to university and do biology. I had an interview with a professor in the biology department, and he accepted me without delay. On my first day at university, I met this professor, and he was nice and gentle mean. After two or three days of working together at the lab, he flirted with everything I do. That wasn’t a big deal in the beginning because everyone can flirt. But when he flirted every day with no stop, I asked him not to do. I said it was misconduct and unacceptable behavior because he looks like a perpetrator to me. He was angry and at this moment the sexual harassment started. As a recipient, I felt dread of everything. I was dreading to stay alone with him in the lab and I tried to deter him in several ways, but he didn’t stop. I did a complaint against him at the head of the department and I chose to change university.

Choice 1 : End of the story

Bachlor - harsment

Work at FLEURY Hospital.

I chose FLEURY hospital. I had a good feeling to start work in my field of study as a Lab Technologist. The work was connected to what I learned all these years. It was time to practice my knowledge and skills, and I will earn a wage for the job. That wage will be a premium wage for me. To know how to do the work correctly, the manager put me on OJT for three days. That task was given to an older co-worker but unfortunately, this person was a new worker. This person didn’t know ins-and-outs of this job. Me, as a trainee I had to be very concentrated to understand and the job in the right way later. The error is serious in this kind of job. It wasn't easy to be a trainee with a trainer who was new. I had some drawbacks during the OJT. The training was missing much information and the trainer had biases concerning women who wear a headscarf, for her these women are not up to scientific work. On the fourth day, I had to work alone in this area, and the trainer was absent that day, and from the beginning, I had a problem. The trainer forgets to give me the pass code of the database. After one month of working alone, I became a brilliant worker and my managers congratulated me on the quality of my work and my initiatives to improve it.

Fleury Hospital

Work at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.

When I started at this new job, I was pretty sure work with a big group will not be simple. I knew that I would be with that person who will hinder the productivity of the group or undermine our work. Last Sunday, While I was working, one of my colleagues Manama undermined me, just because she didn't like me as a Muslim. This same person was my trainer, and she was withholding information about work for every day of the training. Another trainee was getting sucked up by other coworkers. More often than not I make the effort to do my work, I wonder why I even bothered certain people. I did my best all the time to do work correctly, but she was hindering my work, but no one hindered her. This coworker engaged in Office politics to ruin my reputation in eyes of my boss. When I became a trainer in my turn, I never withhold information from the new trainee. Undermining people was the worst thing a saw at work. My experience at this job gave me the opportunity to learn how to react in front of different personalities of colleagues. Get sucked up in work is not acceptable for me now. Finally, the boss called Manama and talked to her to change her attitude and her payment was withheld until the work was completed.

I learned to use many kinds of laboratory devices. That experience was invaluable in that place. After this experience, I had to find a job because bills overwhelmed me, and sadly interns don’t get a wage from internships. Finally, one of my requests was accepted to work in a hospital in Montreal. I was on the job training for a week, and that helped, it was a drove test to familiarize myself with the work environment.

I was on their waiting list to do the internship, but they never called me.

Choice 1 : End of the story

boring job

I broke the vial of insects.

One day in the morning I arrived late for work so, I returned to the lab quickly to make up for the delay that I had done and prepared the insects, and injected the research product into the vial of the insects. I worked many years on HIV and I found a solution to eradicate completely this virus from the human body. This news has made the whole world talk, after several years research has yielded nothing to eradicate this deadly disease. Mankind can now rest from HIV. For this important work, I got a Nobel Prize.
