Figuring out my future.

From the moment I started to care about people around me, I knew I wanted to be an international aid worker. By seeing how they didn't necessarily grow up with the same ease as me, with loving parent, food on the table and security within their hometown, I started to question myself on how I could be helpful. The problem is that I felt like I was not qualified enough to help them on the long-term, but at the same time, I always wanted to go there quickly, while I am still young and healthy. Now, I just finished cegep and I do not know if I should follow my heart or follow my judgment.

The university.

By going to university, I was able to learn a lot about international cooperation. I learned how to help communities develop themselves and how to impact their lives on the long run. I became really close to my classmates and some of them decided to volunteer in a foreign country, while others decided to stay here to help the community.

Choice 2 : Help the homeless community of Montreal

Haiti.

Being in Haiti made me realize how rewarding volunteering is. I met people from all around the world, and I learned so much by being in the field. I met a lot of people from Sorbonne University, and they all went in my dream field of study, which is international development. At the same time, I was so happy in Haiti that I didn't want to leave. At the end of my volunteering session at a school, some people told me that they were hiring to work at a Haitian's orphanage.

Mastering in women's right.

I loved my program in university. It made me aware of all of the gender inequalities in our society. I knew I wanted to make a difference and I started thinking about the things I could do to make these changes happen. I looked at job opportunities to work for the United Nations Women.

Choice 1 : Do an internship at the head office of the United Nations Women.

Choice 2 : Go to a job opening in Afghanistan

Helping Montreal.

I started helping the homeless community of Montreal by giving them food and a roof for the night at a local shelter. I loved it. I felt like I was making them feel safe and loved, when they didn't feel like anyone else could give that to them.

Choice 2 : Work for the city of Montreal

Sorbonne University.

I went to Sorbonne University in Paris, France. I studied international development, to be able to work as a diplomat or an ambassador. Studying in France gave me a lot of connections and I knew I wanted to work in Haiti, like I previously did. After my BAC, I decided to take interviews from the Canadian government to be able to do my dream job.

Orphanage.

I took the interview to become the new orphanage's headmistress, and they decided to take me. I was in heaven because I have always loved kids and I knew I wanted to help them grow and succeed. I became really close to a kid named Ace, who was seven years old. He told me all about his previous life.

United Nations Women internship.

By doing this internship, I knew I was helping the surrounding people. I started to see how it worked and trained a lot on the job. I got an apartment in New York City, where the head office of the UNW is. I know I want to work here for the rest of my life.

My teacher told me about a job opening in Afghanistan, to work has the secretary-general of the United Nations Women. I applied and, since I was the most qualified, they hired me. Being in Afghanistan is hard because the women situation his far from equal and there is a lot of terrorism. I will try my hardest to modify their rights in Afghan's society and I think that this will be a work of a lifetime. I am glad I can finally make a change.

AGÉPA.

I started to go fund-raising, for a non-profit organisation called AGÉPA, to help the homeless community of Montreal. Even thought I didn't work in an international program, I am glad that I helped my community and made them able to get up and fight the world.

Montreal city.

I started to work in human resources for Montreal city. I was able to make changes within the city, to assure security and health to the homeless of Montreal. I loved my job and I knew I was really helping.

Diplomat.

After going to university, I knew I was qualified to work for the international department of the Government of Canada. I went back to my country to do a job interview, to be able to work as a diplomat. I hope that my studies will make me able to get the job.

The Canadian embassy's internship gave me the possibility to learn a lot about international affairs in the field. I hope to eventually become an ambassador and represent Canada in Haiti.

Ace.

As the orphanage was closing, I adopted Ace, to give him a home, education, and love. My role as a mother is really fulfilling and I love living in Haiti.

I decided to take the headmaster's place to ensure that the orphanage stays open. I am now headmistress of the place and I love it. My duty is to give these children a home.
