The beginning of my study at the university of polytechnic.

I was accepted on the program of civil engineering at the University of Polytechnic. It was a dream school since it is classified as the best engineering school in Montreal. This school specializes in Engineering programs such as mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical and many more. I heard rumors that this school was very demanding in terms of effort which implied studying every day, doing the recommended homework, or even attending classes. As a lazy person, I never really gave it my all to school. In college, I never went to class, I always studied last minute for an exam and I never did homework. This made me very nervous since putting effort in school was never my type of personality. I wanted to become an engineer without taking the responsibilities of an engineer. People said that if I did not put any effort when going to Polytechnic, I would end up being kicked out of the program since it is one of the toughest schools out there in Montreal. I had to completely change my lifestyle from A to Z in order to succeed in this school. Thing is, these words were easier said than done. I said the same thing to myself when I was coming out of high school. In the end, I ended up lacking a lot of motivation during my years at Collège de Maisonneuve and I always aimed for the lowest grade of acceptance for the University of Polytechnic. So, I could either become a totally different person by sacrificing my comfort and actually working hard or, I could keep my old habits as before which was not being a good student at all and aiming for the lowest. Very tough decision considering my lazy nature of a person.

For this first semester, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and actually doing the things I was told to do before going to this University. It worked out pretty well. In the beginning, it was very rough since I was never used to this lifestyle such as studying every single day. It took my weeks in order to adapt into this lifestyle. I had mental breakdowns at certain point since it is my first time putting this much effort to school. I woke up at 6 in the morning every day in order to study my courses such as physics, calculus, thermodynamic, chemistry and many more. Even with all these efforts, I could not pull straight A's, my extent was around 80% (B+) as a grade. I was still happy for my grades since hitting 80s in this program is considered impressive in a certain way. My mental health was pretty bad since I never had this much pressure before, but the results were worth it! Now, I plan to do the same with the next semester coming up. Maybe, I will take my courses a little bit more lightly than before but this does not mean that I will slack off.

Choice 1 : What if I quit engineering to become an accounting

For this first semester, it was a complete disaster, it was the first time I failed a class, and I was ashamed of myself since I never failed a science class before in my whole life. The unlikely happened, and I kept my old habits like I said. I did not feel any repercussion on the first two weeks, but when the exams came, I was overloaded with learning content that I did not study earlier. Each class was a complete failure for me since I only got 60s in terms of grades. With university, if you wish to have any internships as a student, you need to have at least 75s on your grade which was not my case. I had it easy every single day and the backlash was far greater than I expected. Now, I will not be able to get civil engineering internships unless I make any change in the following semesters. I never went to class and I had a hard time understanding certain concepts on a course. I could not ask for my teachers help since I did not even attend the class to begin with. I always ended up doing my chemistry or math exams with half of the learning content not studied yet. If I keep this habit up, big companies that need civil engineers will soon notice my bad grades and will probably not recruit me as an employee. It is too late to cry now I guess. Only way to make this up is for me to start working hard for the following semesters.

Choice 1 : Should i study in marketing instead?

Life as an accounting.

Accounting is a very different path from engineering. Only math comes to play. Subjectively speaking, I did not enjoy this path since it is very linear for me. At least, on the objective side, it brings a lot of income since I managed to get the CPA license. I personally value income in life that is why accounting was part of my other choices.

Since I was not doing well, studying in marketing was my secondary choice of career in life. Choosing this learning field instead of engineering did not bother me at all. I found that path very interesting. Being able to increase sells or knowing how to approach a client is indeed some interesting topic on a subjective point of view. Plus, marketing brought me a lot of money since it mainly depends on the advertiser itself if he is good or not.

In the end it all the three options are viable since they all bring high income to the table. Of course, some fields are more interesting than others, but it mainly depends on the taste of the person. For my part, I enjoy all three of these fields. All it really matters, is studying hard and be a top tier student in order for companies to notice you.
