Mid term terror.

My presentation.

My name is Elody and I’m currently studying in the Nursing program at Vanier College it has been three years and this semester is my last one. These last years have been filled with amazing adventures. Until the day of my first midterm exam about human anatomy and I understood how nursing is a complex field.

The exam day.

It was Monday morning, I was getting ready to go to school it was a cold morning the wind was really strong. As I’m getting closer to school I met some of my classmates, and we started to talk about our exam. We were all anxious because it was one of the most important tests of the semester. We had a few minutes before it started, so we decided to revise. When we got into the class, the teacher explained briefly what we were expecting. We’ve been studying this subject for two months now, so I was confident. I told myself that I would get at least 80% on it. We started writing, and we had two and a half hours to complete it.

New knowledge.

The time was passing slowly and I wasn't having any issues. The first hour went by and I had 30% of the exam left. I was writing and two pages before the last page I got stuck and couldn’t answer the first question. So, as any normal student would do I went to the next question and the same thing happened I was freaking out. I looked over at my friend who was on the same page as me, and we both spread our eyes wild open. This look meant that we both didn’t understand what was going on. I started thinking to myself that I missed something in class or that I didn’t study well-enough. It was one of the most stressful times of my life. My hope of having at least 80% was gone it was like I knew I failed. 50 minutes were left before the end of the test and I needed to find the answers to pass my exam. I started to think hard about what I learned so far. 10 minutes passed by and my brain re-opened I was going hard on the exam. I was writing like there was no tomorrow. I only had five minutes left, and I was able to finish the test in time. After the exam, my classmates and I were sharing our answers, and we all got approximately the same answers. We were so scared that we all went home and relaxed. After a week, we went back to school, and started a new subject it was really interesting. We were learning so much that we forgot for a little bit that we still did not get our results for the mid-term test. It was two weeks after the test, and I was waiting impatiently for my results and the day finally came. I was on a phone call with my closest classmates to reveal our grades. The infamous notification popped on each of our phones. When I opened Omnivox and pressed on the grade section my heart was racing I was so scared to fail. I finally opened it and I was impressed. My grade was higher than the class average. I had 92% on my exam and my classmates had high results too. My never-ending study sessions were not in vain. Even though it was the first time I had so many things to study. Most people failed the test in my class my teacher was disappointed but understood those who failed. Nursing will require you to memorize thousands of pages for just one test, and we have other classes on our schedule so it is hard to keep up. In conclusion, I was lucky to memorize almost everything in my books but it’s not always like that. I’m finishing my last year and I’ve had some failures and wanted to quit but with a goal, you can achieve anything. I’m starting nursing sciences next fall at McGill University. The last three years were filled with a ton of long books to read, difficult exams, and stressful semesters but it was worth the pain because now I have a bright future ahead of me. I will forever remember that studying continuously is exhausting and sometimes upsetting I often struggled to learn everything and keep up with every new medical term and care technique to be the perfect nurse. It was not an easy studying field.
