My search for a fulfilling career.
The beginning of University.
After a lot of indecision about my University program, I finally decided to give Business administration a try. However, I very quickly ended up with a new tough choice to make.
Choice 1 : Focusing on my studies and my program.
Choice 2 : Registering for an informatics certificate.
Focusing on my studies and my program.
I decided that I would solely focus on my studies for the next three years. I will get the best grades that I possibly can and give studying everything I can. I will thoroughly and regularly complete my homework. For once, I will keep my time management in check and seriously use my agenda. I will be the perfect student even if I must isolate myself because of it.
Choice 1 : Keep to myself and work hard.
Choice 2 : Managing to get my dream job.
Registering for an informatics certificate.
Since I hesitated so much about my university program, I decided to try registering for a certificate in informatics that I will hopefully complete. Obviously, I am not giving up on my Management program. But I think it will be more simulating and interesting for me to do more than one thing even if it means that my marks won't be as good. Who needs good marks at university anyway? As long as I pass my classes, my grades don't matter. My decision is taken.
Choice 1 : Never finishing University.
Choice 2 : Becoming a superhero against my will.
Keep to myself and work hard.
At the beginning, everything went according to plan. I was consistently getting straight A's in every subject. For the first time in my life, I was finishing my homework and my projects early and I didn't have to rush in at the last second to complete my work. All it took for everything to fall apart was a single group project. It didn't start out badly, we all exchanged our schedules to find an appropriate meeting time. Quickly however, it became apparent that my groupmates had no intention of working with me. It was maddening. I didn't know how to talk to them. During this last year, I seemed to have lost any social skills that I ever possessed along with a majority of my friends. I didn't let this deter me and finally managed to confront one of them. She told me, " I am so sorry! Can't you do this work on your own though? To be honest with, I don't think we would work well together." It was like a switch has suddenly been flipped. I could no longer concentrate in class and my grades quickly went down. I felt as though someone has just broken up with me.
Choice 1 : Picking myself back up.

Managing to get my dream job.
Everything worked out fine. School was easier than I anticipated, and I was able to keep in contact with close friends. I quickly started to look for an internship in a company that I really appreciated. I got accepted as an intern. Their work conditions and ethic sounded absolutely perfect for me. There were also a lot of traveling opportunities. Recently, I had a couple of discussions with some of my teachers and was also considering volunteering abroad. It sounded appealing, but I wasn't sure yet. I couldn't do both of them at the same time and had to decide.

Picking myself back up.
After a horrible semester where I failed all of my classes dramatically, I decided that it was enough. I took a gap year which allowed me to rediscover my hobbies, participate in events and make new friends. I decided that I will never let myself go through something like this again. With this new insight, I finally decided to go back to university and to complete my degree. Even if I don't get perfect marks or the perfect job, there is more to life than constant work and productivity.

No matter how much I tried to go back to work, I was no longer capable of doing so. I failed all of my classes and nobody wanted to be around me anymore. I had no possible future. Tired with me and my now constant whining, my parents asked me to leave so I could learn responsibility and go back to work. They couldn't understand how their previously determined and hardworking child became this gloomy adult. After I was kicked out of my house, I tried to find a job. I didn't seem to succeed. Soon, the apartment that my parents helped me rent couldn't keep me. My phone got stolen. Distressed and full of dread, I decided that my only option was to become a thief. Surprisingly, I was very good at it. It seemed I had an unlikely secret talent. Soon, I started getting hired to conduct big theft operations.

Finding a new passion.
After my disastrous semester, I decided to reduce my workload and the amount of classes I took for my next semester. I also decided to take a leave of absence from school. I took this time to think more deeply about my life and my future. If I continued like this, I will probably end up in a dead end low income job with a ton of student debt. The more I studied management, the least interesting I found it. It lacked the stimulation I needed. During this time, I also took an interest in cooking. It really helped me feel better. I hadn't felt such fulfillment from a task since a very long time. I finally decided to give up on my management degree to try to start a new career path in cooking and nutrition.

My experience as an intern.
I received on the job training recently as an intern in the business I was interested in. When I saw the internship offer, I snatched the opportunity as fast as I could. This way, I had my foot in the door to work for a place I liked before even finishing my studies. Even if I end up not working there, this training would still come in handy. It allowed me, as an intern, to learn the ropes of the job and to do a test drive and ensure that the job was really interesting and satisfying. It can sometimes be difficult to tell from an outside perspective. It also allowed me to meet other interns and helped me not to get overwhelmed when I started working.

Volunteering abroad.
I always wanted to travel, see and meet different people and cultures. I finally got an opportunity to do this by volunteering abroad. There are a lot of advantages in volunteering abroad, I was skeptical at first because of my fear of losing time. I also thought there would be a lot of disadvantages in volunteering abroad. After all, it could be argued that it is a loss of time of resources. After college, everyone is stressed about starting to work for a variety of reasons, among them and often the most important one is paying student's loans. In this situation, we often think that volunteering abroad will take time and energy during which we are not being paid. We would prefer working a dead-end job and making some money to pay off the bills and the debts. While the lack of money is definitively a disadvantage of choosing to volunteer abroad, there are largely enough advantages to make up for it. The experience of volunteering is absolutely invaluable. It helped me gain a purpose and realize some of my projects. While volunteering, I succeeded in achieving things that I had previously given up on. I absolutely do not regret my choice.

Never finishing University.
Deciding to get an informatics degree has only been the beginning. Soon, I became obsessed with knowledge. I can never pick a side and everything interest me. I took up a feminist and gender studies major, then a micro program specializing in worker law. I also registered for a history major. After that, I registered in minor about video game making and added a minor about linguistics to the pile. I also decided to get engaged in my university communities and registered for a bunch of activities. Outside of school, I started to get into cosplay and regularly went to conventions. Financially, I am doing surprisingly well, but I still don't know where I'm going. Recently, I started wondering if becoming a university teacher wouldn't be the best career path for me. After all, no matter how much I wanted to, I couldn't spend my whole life studying in school but maybe I could do the closest thing available in the job market. I already received some offers.
Choice 1 : Becoming a professional cosplay artist.
Choice 2 : Getting a satisfying job.

After many sleepless nights trying to finish a project, I realized that I couldn't keep going like this. No matter how much I appreciate learning, University was clearly not build to help people like me. I am supposed to be here solely for the sake of getting my diploma and securing an unfulfilling job. I lost all-purpose and motivation. I didn't know what to do anymore. I was getting desperate when, suddenly, a light shone all around me. An ominous and solemn voice proclaimed, " You have been chosen. You shall begin your job of defeating evil with the powers I graced you with tomorrow. Be grateful for your chance and privilege. Do no let me down, or else I will torture you and your family to death." I therefore decided to become a superhero who ingests magical food for survival and protects people from monsters of shadow.

I accepted a particularly interesting offer to teach for students in a multidisciplinary program and was able to continue my never ending pursuit of knowledge under a more socially accepted form.

Becoming a professional cosplay artist.
I became more and more interested in cosplay, the culture behind it and the making of costume itself. I got completely sucked up in this new interest. Playing different characters was incredibly freeing and helped me understand myself better. After some research, I decided to start a career in cosplay.

Choice 2 : Managing to get an even better dream job.

I didn't seem to be able to manage my money correctly. Since it was a freelance career, I couldn't afford to not work consistently. However, I didn't seem to be able to do so. As time passed and my financial situation became worse, I started losing interest in cosplay. I liked it less and less and it seemed more and more like a chore. I died an early and lonely death after an unfulfilling career as soon as I retired.

Life was great. I loved my career and managed to work with some of my friends that are also passionate about cosplay. They kept me in check and together, we managed to do a great job.
