I just graduated from high school and my dream is to become a ballet dancer. I've been dancing ballet since I was 5 years old and it's my passion. I got accepted in two different ballet schools. Both are expensive, but that's totally normal et both have good reputations. Which one should I choose?
Choice 1 : Ballet Coppélia
Choice 2 : Ballet Divertimento

My first class with Ballet Coppélia was really entertaining. We didn't get right into dancing but I met all my dance partners. It was a little stressful because everyone seemed so comfortable, and I was really shy and a little isolated from everyone. Luckily, this girl came to keep me company seeing that I was alone. We had to show off a ballet figure of our choice and I wasn't sure if I should choose a Bourrée or a dèveloppé.
Choice 1 : Bourrée
Choice 2 : Dèveloppé
The first meeting was scheduled three weeks after receiving my acceptance letter. I came all prepared with my tutu my ballet clothes but the instructor said it was only a meeting to discuss the two different programs the school offers. They offer to teach two different types of ballet method which are Cecchetti Method and Vaganova Method.
Choice 1 : Cecchetti Method
Choice 2 : Vaganova Method
A step of Bourrée is a really simple ballet figure but I tend to shift my leg too slowly which doesn't make my figure look clear. It is then considered failed. It is one of the basics, so I wouldn't go wrong choose this figure.
Choice 1 : A succeeded pas de Bourrée
Choice 2 : A failed pas de Bourrée
A step of dèveloppé is one of the basics of ballet, but not everyone is able to extend their leg and keep their core tight. It takes a lot of flexibility et practice reaching the perfect dèveloppé. Choosing this figure only shows the instructor that I'm flexible and that my legs are easy to extend. Let's hope I don't lose control.
Choice 1 : A bad extend
Choice 2 : I slipped and fell
I was happy choosing the Cecchetti Method because it origins from Italy, and I was obsessed with this country. They only gave us the choice of showing the seven basic steps of ballet because it is required in this ballet method.
Choice 1 : A succeeded first impression
Choice 2 : An extreme stretching of the leg
After making our method choice with this dance school, they scheduled a second meeting to discuss more of the program. They told us that this method origins from Russia and that this school brings their ballet students over there for three months for the dance competition. If three months is too long and the student isn't comfortable with it, they will have to quit and change their method choices. This condition was already talked about, so I knew about it already. Now, I had to plan if I wanted to stay in the campus in Russia or rent an apartment which is less expensive.
Choice 1 : Campus
Choice 2 : Rent an apartment
The instructor told me my pas de Bourrée was a success and that I could have a private session with him to improve my personal difficulties. A pas de Bourrée is a really simple figure, he also wants to see more of my potential. I'm really proud of myself. I thought I would fail because this ballet dance school is really demanding from what I have heard.

The instructor told me my pas de Bourrée was a failure and that I shifted my weight too slowly. He will put me in an improvement class that I will have to attend 5 hours a week for three weeks to improve my steps and my ballet skills. I will then have to pass another evaluation to see if I have my place in that ballet school.

During my dèveloppé, my leg extended too suddenly which made me lose control. I fell on my hip and I had to go to the hospital to get it checked-in. They told me I need three weeks recovery before getting back to dancing. The instructor told me I might get kicked out, but they will see in the next few weeks how I recover.

During my dèveloppé, I just slipped and fell in front of my other ballet partners. I was so embarrassed, I left the room and went to the bathroom until the class was done. The instructor, then, came to see me and reassured me about it. He said it very often happens and that I don't have to worry about it.

I'm so proud of myself, the instructor told me my first impression was really impressive. I was put front row, and he even took me as an example to show one of the basic figures to another student.

I probably didn't stretch out properly because during my first impression, my right leg stretched extremely and I felt paralyzed. They had to call the ambulance and I might have to leave permanently the studio because of my recovery period. My career in ballet might end before it even started, I'm devastated.

Moving to Russia means having to find a new place to stay in. I chose to stay in the campus even though it is quite expensive, but the campus is attached to the studio which makes it easy for me to get there.

Moving to Russia means having to find a new place to stay in. I chose to rent an apartment even though they offered me a room in a campus. It is too expensive for my budget, so I will go on with the apartment. I just need to figure out how to get to the studio every day because the apartment that I rented is 20 minutes away by car.
