My Career Path.
Choose the right cegep.
I want to go into the health science program because I am not sure what I want to do in life. I don’t want to study far from Montreal and I don’t want to lose my friends. They are always there to help me pull straight A’s at school. Most of my friends are going to College Maisonneuve, but I have one friend going to College Ahuntsic.
Choice 1 : Go to College de Maisonneuve.
Choice 2 : Go to College de Sherbrook.

The health science program is quite difficult. It is maddening not to be able to have grades as well as high school, but it’s a different level and there is a lot of competition. I am currently in my fourth and last semester. I need to decide which program I want to study at University. Being in contact with the human body doesn't bother me, however, I don't like blood very much. I don’t like to work in the laboratory neither do I like to work under pressure.
Choice 1 : Medicine program.
Choice 2 : Kinesiology program.
Choice 3 : Nutrition program.

It is too far away from Montreal. I won't be able to go there. Try Again.

Medicine program.
I don’t have many friends in that program because of the competition between us. I am overwhelmed with homework and exams due for the same week, so I need to have perfect time management. I need to find an internship for the days to come. I am stressed, and I lack sleep because of all this. Also, I know I am not too comfortable with blood, so I think of the worst-case scenario possible that can happen in front of that red substance. I am in trouble.

Kinesiology program.
2 years have passed. I am currently graduating from the kinesiologist program. I learned a lot about myself. I know that I am an athletic person who likes to exercise. I think it is an interesting program to study body posture and body gesture to help other people maintain their physical capacity. I recently got an offer to work in a kinesiologist center but I really want to travel around the world.
Choice 1 : Accept the work offer.

Nutrition program.
I have such good grades in that program. It is mostly about molecules we found in food, and their benefits on the human body. I work a lot with a microscope and it is an easy instrument to manipulate. I am gifted with those tools. Even if I am talented in that domain, I don’t find myself being passionate about it. I don’t know what I am supposed to do next.
Choice 1 : Continue in the nutrition program.

I start my OJT with an employee who works there for more than 2 years. Every single trainee there says to me that he is the best one, and I am lucky. The wage that is given to me is very low compared to other places I applied for. My trainer has a strong bias against one person who works there because He isn’t able to speak without stammering. He has me for the whole month, and I figure out that there are a lot of drawbacks counting the attitude of some employees there. I have the opportunity to be conscious about the ins-and-outs of my career, but I don’t like the atmosphere.

I had an amazing year travelling around Europe and Asia and I accomplished a dream. The disadvantage in that situation is that I don’t have enough money in my bank account to be financially independent. I need to find a job in a haste but with no experience in the field and one year off, I am discouraged. Maybe, it wasn’t the best idea to take that year off.

I easily found a job in a sports department as a kinesiologist. The advantage of working in a sports department is that there are only people willing to accomplish their goal, and they have a motivational mindset. My salary is way above the previous wage. I didn’t learn the ropes in the other center, but it doesn’t matter because I have good coworkers and a great environment to work in. It feels like a good place to stay until my retirement.

I am in my second month in this center. I have a patient who needs help to improve her body movement. She is really pretty. My coworker flirts with the client instead of working. I feel like she is not feeling comfortable with the professional misconduct. It isn’t the first time, and I can’t put aside that kind of behaviour to do my job properly. After a thorough reflection, I quit the job because it doesn't correlate with my values.

I applied everywhere, and I have two offers for my internship. The first one is in a hospital emergency department, and the other one is in the operating department.

There are a lot of patients that need help immediately. It isn’t an easy department for a start in a hospital. I am constantly under pressure because I need to be fast and effective. I do infusion and I manipulate medical machines and instruments like a syringe. I don’t hate that, but I am not comfortable with the constant pressure. It adds more stress and it isn’t a motivating factor to come to work every day. I don’t know what I can do in this case.

Operating department.
I attend a lung operation with other trainees who are in the same department as me. When I saw the first cut into the skin, I started to shiver. One doctor comes to see me and asks me if I am alright. The moment I open my mouth I pass out. I definitely know that this program isn’t meant for me, and it was the worst experience and error of my life. I need to find another program suitable to my capacities and strengths.

After weeks of working under pressure, I am really unhappy and discourage. I don't feel good about myself and my coworkers seem to have understood my discomfort. They encourage me to change the program before it is too late. I think it's a good idea.

I am on my lunch break. I decide to go talk with my manager. After our discussion, I came to the conclusion that working in a hospital is working under pressure wherever I am. I don’t feel comfortable in this place and on that program. I change my program for the next semester.

I have a diploma in nutrition. I really don’t want to work as a nutritionist because I think it is boring work. I must go back to university to do another program.

I am not sure about my career path. I decided to go abroad to do some volunteering related to science nutrition. I never volunteer in my life, so I don’t know what to expect. I am so nervous and skeptical about that experience. I have a paper with all the advantages and disadvantages listed down on if I should be volunteering. I go there without any purpose but to help the other volunteers with a premium wage. I have to work in a laboratory for many hours and surprisingly I don't like that. It isn't as easy as it is at school. I came back with invaluable experience, but the desire to pursue a career related to nutrition is over.
