College Graduation.
You had spent most of your youth sitting on a school bench and life was awaiting to happen. Standing in your graduation gown, you wonder what you would do next. You were already enrolled in university, but you are suddenly second guessing everything while you await for your name to be called. You realized how long the process of obtaining a diploma was and how you could start saving money and buy a house sooner if you just went straight to work. Shortly after giving a small speech thanking your friends and parents, you take pictures and head home when the ceremony ends. You rush into your room to change into comfortable clothes and clutch the university admission form. You are now one step away from starting your bachelors degree, all it needs is a signature.

You start to think about leaving your job because the stress might be too intense to bear with during school. It tears you up inside because you've been working for this place for a long time, you have a great relationship with your bosses and you could retire early if you stay loyal to the enterprise. You're torn but you decide to keep it up at least until the beginning the semester. September rolls around and you get to experience your first university classes. You like it so far but you realize you're going to have to focus much more than you ever did.

Life is too short to stay in school you thought right before tearing the admission form. You throw the remains in your garbage tin and go about your summer. You worked extra hours to save up more money and decided you would devote your entire life to your career. You know it will be difficult to move up the ladder if you don't have any further schooling experience but you have faith in your capacities. Once the end of summer arrives, your boss approaches you and asks you if you wanted to be promoted to a higher position. This new job would consist of working in the office and being very efficient. You're usually always up for a challenge but this is a big decision that would impact the rest of your life. Do you stay in this comfortable position you've known and loved for so long or do you make the move?

University studies are draining you physically and emotionally but you're glad you kept your job on the side to get your mind off of things and have a source of income on the side. You somewhat feel like your not living your life the way you should be, because all of your friends are either moving out, getting married or having children. You are now 23 and in desperate need of new adventures. You wanted to move to an apartment but your savings don't allow it yet. Your friends have been planning a trip to Costa Rica for about 6 months and have been begging you to join them. There's only one year left to university before graduation, but You know deep down that travelling would be incredibly beneficial to your self-growth and personal development. Plus, you have enough money saved from your part-time job to join them on this Vacation. This is one of the toughest decisions you've had to make in your life. After all, you could use a gap year after graduation before you start your adult life to either volunteer, make more money or travel. Although that might also delay your carrier and cause you to never attain your goals at a young age. This is such a major dilemma. Now is the moment you need to choose between your personal or your professional life. You'll take your decision tomorrow, after a good night's sleep, you mumble as your thoughts dissipate into dreams.

You write a two-week notice form with your eyes filled with tears. This job was the best thing that's happened to you because it allowed you to become more confident and grow but you have to focus on what is to come forward. You've decided to dedicate your full time and attention to your studies. It is so time-consuming that you know if you put your all into it, it'll be over and done with. Quitting your job is just one of the sacrifices you have to make to better your future. You finish University as planned in the usual 3-year delay and look for job opportunities online. You have barely any money in your bank account, you still live in the basement at your parents house and you feel like a total loser but hey, at least you're educated... right? Only two job offers catch your eye so you decide to upload an updated version of your resume and wait for a few days. Both managers call you back and show interest in your potential. The first job offer is linked exactly to your field of study because you would become the leader to an urban planning and industrial design firm while the second job offer is completely different but also sounds extremely stimulating and interesting. Something totally out of your comfort zone that would steer you in a different career path: Entrepreneur. Staring up a new business sounds very intimidating but it also pays way more than the first option. You're stuck between choosing a 100 thousand dollar paying job that you've actually studied for or a 150k job that could totally fail if you don't manage correctly.

You ask your boss to sleep on it to make sure you're making the right decision. During the evening, while you're having dinner with your parents, you tell them you've been offered a higher position at your job. Your mother congratulates you and your father encourages you to go through with the offer so you don't stay in a dead-end job for the rest of your life. Before you go to sleep, you text in the group chat with your closest friends asking for their advice. Something is still keeping you from fully accepting the responsibilities that would come with that position but everyone's support is giving you hope. The next morning, you shower and dress up. You drive to work but you can see there are some construction panels ahead telling you to take a detour. You want to get to work on time to tell your boss you want the job promotion but you know the safest way to get there is the longest route. You're worried if you're late to the office your boss wont trust you to be fit for the promotion. The light switches from red to green, time to make a quick decision.

Taking the risk of starting a new job was too nerve-racking for you. You've decided to keep it to yourself and nicely decline the promotion offer the next morning. You continue working to your 9-5 job. It sustains you and lets you put a bit of money aside to save up for a future project, for either renovations or a new car or maybe a family. For a long time, all you've ever wanted is some stability so to live a stress-free life was the best option. Until one day, a new colleague joined the team started talking to you. For a few months you've had some sweet moments that led to a few dates to you both dating. You weren't opposed to it since it didn't interfere with your career until they ask you if you wanted to get married and start a family. After all, you have been together for two and a half years. Thank god they had the decency to ask you in private because you truly have to think about it since it is a decision that would shift your life.

You make a turn and decide to use a shortcut to get to work. You don't want to get to work late so you're driving over the speed limit. A squirrel crosses the street and you don't have time to stop the engine but your instincts kick in and you steer the wheel as the car looses control. A few barrel rolls alter, the car ends up upside down on the road, the windows are shattered and a pool of red blood oozes out of the drivers side of the car. At the gates of heaven your life flashes before your eyes, every decision that brought you to this precise moment. You can hear the ambulance sirens ringing in your ears as you lose consciousness. You take your last breath as they pull you out of the destroyed vehicle.

Your boss walks up to your office and brings up the fact that you punched in late and asks if you're okay. You nod and explain to him there was construction that you didn't know about that made you take a detour. He chuckles and brushes it off to ask if you've though about the promotion offer. You smile and tell him you have and that you're up for the challenge. The job turns out to be more difficult than you've expected it to be but you keep trying to become good at it. Along the way, you learn to love your job and you get to be a successful employee that gets the opportunity to retire early. You're happy but you've realized you've done nothing but put your career above everything else. You can't help wondering how different your life would be if you had made different decisions along the way.
