College: check!

Wow! You finally finished your college journey at Maisonneuve! Your excited for your future in biology at UQAM. Your summer goes so fast going out with your friends, camping with your family and reading a ton of books! It's now time to go to your first class, which is an intensive lesson in the field. Your sure are going to make new friends! Let's go!!

Choice 1 : First class: field sampling and observation

graduate

Field sampling and observation.

Your here and your so overwhelmed! The teacher of ecology present the forest where you are. It's a boreal forest which contains the majority of our conifers and half of the American bird's population lives there for a part of the year. But the activity today is to take sample and observe some small organisms. There will be two groups: one will look at wild mushrooms and one will observe moss. Which one will you choose?

Choice 1 : Mushrooms!

Choice 2 : Moss!

group in forest

You chose mushrooms!

More often than not, people don't like mushrooms, but you find them captivating! That's because everyone thinks mushrooms are just a pale slimy mold that grows everywhere. Yet, it's mostly composed by mycelium, a really tiny membrane living in the earth or on the trees. After an unforgettable day and a delicious supper, you and your group go to the cabin. Yo can directly go to sleep or go to the campfire with the others. A small group offers you to watch a movie too!

Choice 1 : go to bed

Choice 2 : go to the campfire

Choice 3 : go watch a movie

mushrooms

You chose moss!

The moss you're going to look at today is called lichen! It's a mushroom living in symbiosis with an alga. Lichen is also the main food of the caribous. What a day! After supper, you have to choose between going to sleep or going to the campfire. A small group offers you to have a party in one of the chamber. What are you going to do?

Choice 1 : go to bed

Choice 2 : go to the campfire

Choice 3 : Let's party!

moss

Sweet dreams!

It was a big day and you slept like a baby. You wake up in the morning fresh and prepared for the day. Again, you have to choose between two groups. One will analyse the earth near the pond, the other near the lake.

Choice 1 : The Pond and the mud!

Choice 2 : The forest's soil.

sleep

Marshmallow and s'mores!

You LOVE roasted marshmallow! Fire is a great way to learn about combustion, a reaction from oxygen and a combustible. But you're here to have fun! Do you sing fire songs or do you tell horror stories?

Choice 1 : Songs!

Choice 2 : Stories!

fire

Movie night!

Yeah! Popcorn and candies, everything you love! When all of you are installed, you have to decide: comedy or horror?

Choice 1 : comedy!

Choice 2 : horror!

movie

Let's party!

The music is loud and your meeting the other students. One girl brought alcohol in the room, do you drink or not?

Choice 1 : You don't drink.

Choice 2 : You drink!

party

Nightmares!

You had nightmares all nights and didn't sleep well. In the morning, you are still tired. However, you get up and prepare for the day. Again, two groups: one will analyse the water of the pond, the other from the lake.

Choice 1 : The pond!

Choice 2 : The lake!

nightmares

Tough morning.

You woke up the next afternoon. You missed the whole day! You and the others are called to see the teachers. They tell each of you that you are expelled and have to go home. Two years later, you work in a dead-end-job, at the HR of an organization. The lack of fulfillment drains you, so you consider starting over the course.

Choice 1 : start again!

hungover

The Pond and the mud!

A pond is like a small lake with static water, and because of that, it has a very different ecosystem. There, you can find microscopic organisms as well as bigger animals like fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. Oh! Look at that! What did you just found?

Choice 1 : A toad!

Choice 2 : A salamander!

pond

The forest's soil.

In the forest's soil, you will analyse the organic soil, which is the top layer of the earth and contains a lot of organic matter. While testing the earth texture, you learn about the different minerals it retains. Hands in the dirt, you touch something slimy! What is-it?

Choice 1 : A worm!

dirt

The pond!

The pond's water is static, which allows a specific ecosystem to grow there. Algae reproduce quickly when they are in a shallow pond. There need to have many bacteria to re-oxygenate the water and stop the proliferation. Even though it's all very interesting, you didn't sleep well. Your mind comes and goes until your attention is set on something. What is it?

Choice 1 : A toad!

Choice 2 : A dragonfly!

shrek

The lake!

All lakes contain an enormous freshwater ecosystem. That's the only thing you can remember of what the teacher is talking about. You're almost sleeping standing up. Suddenly, your attention is catch by a firefly beautiful dragonfly. Follow it!

Choice 1 : follow the dragonfly!

lake

The bio-comedian!

You successfully finish your degree, but like many you decide put aside your career. You always liked doing comedy, maybe you will become the next François Bellefeuille!

Choice 1 : The end!

bellefeuille

The dragonfly!

This predatory insect has a formidable anatomy with its long wings and narrow body. You try to follow it, but you trip on a branch and fall in the water. Everyone laughs, and you laugh with them.

Choice 1 : What will become of you

libellule

The toad!

You see a big toad near the water lilies. It's a Canadian toad. Unlike the frog it lays its eggs in beads. Do you go closer or do you call your colleagues?

Choice 1 : Go closer!

Choice 2 : Call the others!

toad

The salamander!

Salamanders have really small lungs, so they are also able to breathe through their skin. Because your skeptical, you want to know more. Do you walk closer or do you call the teacher?

Choice 1 : Go closer!

Choice 2 : Call the others!

salamander

The worm!

EW! Do you scream or do you take it in your hands?

Choice 1 : Scream!

Choice 2 : Take it!

worm

You called the others!

The teacher is happy to talk about this animal. Students don't always have the chance to see on this close. The course is finished. After three years, you pass your degree and get in an internship where you learn the ropes of the job of biologist. You will be remembered for your captivating TED talks!

Choice 1 : The end!

TED

Closer and closer.

You're not looking where you are going and you fall in the water. However, nothing is hindering your view and you can see the animal really well from where you are. Over the next few years, you'll be pulling off straight A's and pass your degree with a mention! One day, you surely will find a big discovery!

Choice 1 : The end!

that

The end!

If you dread the outcomes of this ending, you can always find your true purpose and restart your journey.

Choice 1 : Restart!
