In my first year in cegep, I was studying Social Science at Maisonneuve College. I knew that it wasn't for me, so I applied in Police Technology also at Maisonneuve College. Right now, I'm in my first year in Police Technology but I'm already thinking about my future and what's coming.
Choice 1 : Going directly to the National Police School of Quebec.
Choice 2 : Taking Some Time off and Going Later to the National Police School of Quebec.
Finally, I decided to go directly to the National Police School of Quebec and maybe I'll go later to university.
Choice 1 : Learning at the National Police School of Quebec.
I'm not going to lie, cegep was pretty stressful and maddening as a straight A's student. I know I'll still end up going to the National Police School of Quebec but maybe I need to take some time off. I'm still debating if I should go to university to get a degree in management or if I should just take a year off to travel abroad.
Choice 1 : Going to university.
Choice 2 : Take a Year off to Travel.
I'm going to do my fifteen-week program. There I'll learn everything I need to know to become the greatest cop I want to become. Head-to-toe dressed in a police uniform with the bulletproof vest and the handcuffs attached to my big belt, I'll do a lot of daily reports while I'm there. I'll also learn more about police ethics, investigations, my discretionary power, warrants, the use of force continuum, declarations and so much more. Fun fact: While I'm there, I'll also get sprayed with pepper spray.
Choice 1 : Finishing the program and directly start working at a police organization.
Finally, I decided I won't go to university right now. I just finished the fifteen-week program and I can't wait to start working. I'll finally be able to deal with all kind of criminal activities that I've been preparing for almost four years. I can't wait to work with my colleagues on various cases and help victims of domestic violence. In other words, I can't wait to make a difference in people's lives.
Choice 1 : Applying at the SPAL.
I'm done with school I can now apply to any police organization of my choice. Although there are many great different police organizations, I always knew I wanted to work for the SPAL, which is the police of Longueuil. This service includes the cities of Brossard, Longueuil, St-Bruno, Saint-Lambert, Boucherville, St-hubert and also Greenfield park. I chose this police organization since I grew up in St-Bruno and I spent a lot of time in Longueuil, Brossard and Saint-Lambert and I want to give back to my community. Also, it is convenient since I know these cities pretty well. However, I know I'll encounter one massive problem.
Choice 1 : What comes after.
Even though I know I'll love working at the SPAL as a "regular" cop (which means only as a pat roller, not a supervisor or a director), I know I'll end up wanting more. Once I finish my mandatory three years as a pat roller and I have learned the ropes, I know that I'll want a higher position job. Why you may ask? Well, not only are there many benefits and the salary is even better, I know I'll be able to make a difference. The world is evolving and the police world has to evolve too and adapt. Even within the various police organizations, there is still a lot of sexual harassment that goes under the radar, corruption and cops are still taking bribes. What is even more shocking to me is that there are still too many cops that misconduct with the public and, they don't get caught, that has to change. However, if I want to make a difference and change the way the officers act, I'll have to get one of the highest positions in my police organization. If I want to pull off that job, I'll have to go back to university and get a degree in management.
Choice 1 : The End - It Was The Wrong Path.
This is the wrong ending! I'll absolutely have to back to university, so start again!
Choice 1 : The Beginning.
Finally, I decided I wanted to go to university right now and I'll apply to the National Police School of Quebec when I'm done and I get my degree. That'll give me more experience than the others and I'll have an advantage when I start working in a police organization. While traveling would be fun, I think that going to university will come more handy for me in the future. After I'm done with my degree in management, I would also like to get a degree in mental health since our classes in cegep don't get that deep into that discipline.
Choice 1 : Going to UQAM.
Choice 2 : Going to UdeM.
I would like to take a year off to travel or volunteer. I would be able to discover new cultures and find my personal purpose. Even though I would probably have a lot of fun and it would probably relieve my stress, I'm skeptical that it would actually advantage me in the long run. First of all, to get where I want to be in the police world I'll inevitably have to go to university. Also, I feel like taking a year off to travel would only make me get behind my classmates. In other words, I feel like it would only make me loose time. So, this was the wrong choice, you'll have to start again!
Choice 1 : The Beginning.
Although the University of Quebec in Montreal is a great school, it's not right the one for me. The programs are great but the two programs that interests the most are at the University of Montreal. This was the wrong choice so you'll have to start again!
Choice 1 : The Beginning.
Since I've been looking for a university to go too, the UdeM really stood out to me. I feel like this university would fit best with what I'm looking for and when I went there to visit it, it felt like "home". There they offer various programs in management and also multiple programmes related to mental health.
Choice 1 : Going to the National Police School of Quebec After I Finish University.
Choice 1 : Starting to Work at the SPAL.
I'm now done with school I can now apply to any police organization of my choice. Even though I'll start working, I'll still go back to university to finish my degree.
Choice 1 : The End.
This is personally for me the right end! Between the National Police School of Quebec and the ending of your three years in cegep there is always about a year of wait and I know I'll inevitably have to go to university. With that being said, I would like to use that gap year to start university and when I'm done with the National Police School, I'll go back to university to finish my degree in management first and then get a degree related to mental health. I know that if I follow this path, I'll be able to fulfill my dreams and be proud of myself when it's time for my retirement.
Choice 1 : The Beginning.
