Saving the Earth

University is coming!

High school is far behind you and you just finished college, congratulation! You are now all grown-up and it's time for you to choose your next destination. You are hesitating between the two main engineering universities in Montreal; either you are going to Polytechnique Montreal or you are going to Ecole de Technologie Superieure (ETS). Both are recognized schools in the city so your choice must be thoughtful.

Choice 1 : You decide to go to Polytechnique Montreal.

Choice 2 : You decide to go to Ecole de Technologie Supérieure (ETS)

Graduation

Budding genius!

Polytechnique Montreal is a wise choice. You'll learn many interesting things that will be useful in the near future. It's now your first day at school and you are pretty worried about your first class. Unfortunately, your college friends decided to go to ETS so you are completely alone in this new chapter of your life. It's time to make some friends! Two friends groups come to you; the first one seems relaxed and likes to party as much as you do. The second group seems more serious and nerdy. You must choose the best option for the course of your semester.

Choice 1 : You decide to hang out with the relaxed friend group.

Choice 2 : You decide to hang out with the nerdy friend group.

Poly

Really unfortunate!

Unfortunately, the establishment got involved in a major sexual misconduct scandal and the school closed its doors.

Choice 1 : You decide to go to Polytechnique Montreal.

Sex trafficking

School dropouts.

Parties are fun, for sure, but in University they are the best way to fail classes. Your friends let you down this semester, they all dropped out of school after a single week. These people will probably end in dead-end jobs if they don't take control of their lives soon... This is not what you wish for yourself.

Choice 1 : You decide to hang out with the nerdy friend group.

school dropout

In business!

Of course, this friend group seems less fun than the other but at the same time, you have better chances to succeed with them by your sides. You chose to go into physical engineering and found out that another person in the group is also in this program. You decide to team up to help each other out during your first year. You get to know the other members of the group and you realize that the majority of them are in mechanical engineering, your second program of choice. The semester goes by and you have a hard time making ends meet during your first year. Meanwhile, your friends in mechanical engineering are having the time of their lives and their first year doesn't seem to have bothered them. You seriously consider changing program because you don't know if you can handle more. You have to choose between sticking with physical engineering and switching to mechanical engineering.

Choice 1 : You decide to change program.

Choice 2 : You decide to stick with your program.

nerdy kid

Instinct always win!

You decided to keep fighting and it pays off! You had better time management and more than that, you find out that physical engineering only gets easier with time while mechanical engineering only gets harder. You are now pulling off straight A's in all of your classes. Now that you are sure that you like this program, you must choose a specialization. You hesitate between nanotechnologies and environmental problems.

Choice 1 : You decide to specialize in nanotechnologies

Choice 2 : You decide to focus on environmental problems

proud

Indecision is the enemy of progress...

Switching programs is wasting your time. By the time you take all the courses you need to be up to date, your friends finished their second year while you just finished your first one in your new program. You lose all the motivation you had and you decide to stop University.

Choice 1 : You decide to stick with your program.

undecided

Green thumb.

You would like to be on the front line against climate change so you decide to specialize in environmental engineering. This is a respectable choice! You start to learn the ins-and-outs of the program and it seems very fun. After finishing your baccalaureate in environmental engineering, it is now time for you to find a job in this domain. The internships you did during your journey in University come in handy since you got a foot in the door of many big companies. However, you must choose right away if you prefer to be working in the field or in an engineering consulting firm.

Choice 1 : Give this section a short title.

Choice 2 : You decide to work in the field

Choice 3 : You decide to work in an engineering consulting firm

Environmental engineering

From powerless to powerful.

Nanotechnologies have revolutionized the world but you wish you could take them a step further. New technologies have always fascinated you and your creative mind can't wait to improve the world! After finishing your diploma in physical engineering with a specialization in nanotechnologies, you need to find a job. During the internship in an aerospace technologies company that you did at University, you learned that the Sun will expand in the next billion years and will be problematic for life on Earth. As an intern, you were powerless about the decisions of the company regarding this problem, but now, you can bring your ideas with more credibility to the company or in another company interested in listening to you.

Choice 1 : You decide to go back to the same company

Choice 2 : You decide to find a new company

Sun expanding

Lack of recognition.

Your ideas are great and you have a lot of determination but the government is at the service of large multinationals and funds available for your projects are clearly insufficient. This is and will be a dead-end job until people start realizing how important environmental engineering is important. For now, you're feeling like there is a real lack of recognition of your job.

Choice 1 : You decide to specialize in nanotechnologies

Big multinational

Unexperienced.

You heard that a big consulting firm was hiring new engineers. You decide to apply and get hired. You start by doing on-the-job training to learn the ropes of the job. Everything goes well and you finally got a permanent job in the company. Unfortunately, your lack of experience is a major disadvantage in this job so you get fired after only a month.

Choice 1 : You decide to specialize in nanotechnologies

baby

New employee.

Since you got a foot in the door of this company, you got hired easily. They recognized your dedication and your work ethic during your internship, and they now welcome you with open arms. You are very determined to find a way to save the Earth from the sun's expansion so you ask your boss if you can work on this complex project. He says it is a very noble cause and therefore he accepts without hesitation. You now have to choose if you prefer to work with your colleagues or on your own.

Choice 1 : You decide to work on your own

Choice 2 : You decide to team-up with your colleagues

new employee

Busy busy...

You chose to apply for a job in a new company which is understandable since your ideas got rejected in the other company. You hope that this new company will be more open-minded but it's not the case... The company received a massive bribe to concentrate its operations for the benefit of a large telecommunication company. Therefore, they are not interested in your ideas.

Choice 1 : You decide to go back to the same company you worked for during your internship.

bribe

Lone wolf.

You decided to work on your own mainly because you want all the recognition of the accomplishment for yourself if your project is a success. This is a bit selfish, but we'll get over it if you prove to us that you are able to save the Earth alone. After a few months of searching for new ideas to solve the problem, you come up with the idea of the century. Your idea is to pull the Earth away from its orbit by using a rocket-powered asteroid that would pass by the planet every year. By a transfer of gravitational potential energy, the earth would gradually move away from the Sun. According to your calculations, in a billion years from now, the Earth would be far enough from the star and therefore it will be safe and sound. If everything goes according to plan, you will be considered the pioneer who predicted how to save not only mankind but the entire life on earth. Congratulation genius! Unfortunately, you will not live long enough to see your ideas take place but it's a great story to tell your grand kids when you are retired.

lone wolf

Wolf pack.

You decided to team up with your colleagues in the hope that your individual skills would be complementary and that you would come up with a safe method of saving the Earth. Unfortunately, you got into an argument with another colleague, and he decided to quit. The other members quickly lost interest and chose to leave the team. You now have to work on your own, which also means: all the recognition for yourself.

Choice 1 : You have to work on your own.

Time travel.

We are now in the year 1 000 002 021, the Sun is now 10 000 times brighter than it was before but thanks to the ideas of a man who lived a billion years ago, the earth is now far enough away from the sun to be able to preserve life. Dear reader, your mission was a success and in the name of mankind; thank you!
