You have just graduated from cegep. You have been admitted to two universities to study business. However, a part of you wants to take a gap-year and travel across the world. Both seem tempting… Your place at university might not be guaranteed for the next year. Which option will you choose? Go directly to university or take a gap year?

You will be able to study many aspects of the business industry. The first year is a common core program, which means that you are able to learn many subjects, like finance, economics, marketing, accounting, and management. At the end of your first year, a teacher offers you an internship with one of his colleagues who works in London. Tempting, right? However, you already have a summer job. You work in a completely different field: you are a landscaper. You have the pleasure to work outside, but you work fifty hours per week, which makes enjoying your summer pretty hard. Also since you have been working there for four years, your boss offers you a raise. You need to decide now!

Choice 1 : Take the internship in London.

You have $5 000 set aside in your bank account. Will you get an apartment and get a full-time job for that year? Or will you use that money to travel?

After visiting many apartments, you find THE one. You also find a job as an assistant manager at your favourite shop downtown. However, after a few weeks working there, you realize that you might be doing some things that you love.

After arriving there, you decide to get a part-time job at a local small business. You go to many small businesses and at one of them, you meet one of your long-lost friends, Mary. She owns the best Acai bowls restaurant of the island and offers you a job on the spot because she has a vacant position to fill. Even better, she offers you to stay with her at her cottage near the ocean! However, she asks you for how long you plan to stay in Honolulu because she doesn’t want to hire someone for a short period. She even offers you the opportunity to become her business partner after working for her for a year. She offers on-the-job training, and you would definitely learn the ropes of how to run and manage a business. She assures you that you would receive a stable income, even during the off-season (where there are fewer tourists). Living in Hawaii has always been a dream of yours. Settling down here sounds amazing. However, school is very important to you and your family will be far away in Canada.

You better call your mom because you have some important news to tell her… You are not coming back home at the end of the year.

You accept Mary’s offer and move in with her. You learn invaluable information about sells, management, and customer service. Life is amazing! You are such a good employee that Mary gives you the opportunity to become her associate after only 6 months. One day, however, two police officers enter the restaurant and asks for Mary. She is absent, but since you are her associate, they decide to ask you some questions about her. “Did you know that the restaurant is actually a cover-up for some illicit exchanges? Perhaps, you might know where Mary hides her mariju- *Kock knock*!

Since you decided to go back home after your gap year, Mary does not want to hire you. Her offer to stay with her still stands though. You don’t need to find a job anymore, since she doesn’t even want you to help her pay the rent. You decide to take some surfing lessons. You choose to take a private lesson with a young and beautiful instructor. He seems a little bit weird though, because the first question he asks you is, “Do you want to take a big risk?” His bright blue eyes deconcentrate you and you say yes… He teaches you the basic positions of surfing before going into the ocean. Once you got comfortable with the positions, he tells you to hop on his jet-ski, with your surfboard attached to it. Then, he proceeds to turn the motor handle to go full speed towards the very big waves far from the beach. You arrive to the biggest waves that you have ever seen in your life and realize what situation you just put yourself in. “Jump”, he says, as the thunder starts rowing… *Kock knock*.

You had to tell your boss that you quit. Poor man, he counted on you! But it was a dead-end job anyway. Thus, you decide to leave for London one week before the beginning of your internship because HR needed to make you fill up some paperwork (and they obviously did not mention that they could have just sent it to you by mail) and a run a background check. You also have to learn about the office politics before your first day as an intern. As you get on the elevator to go see HR, you run into your ex-boyfriend. He starts talking to you and explains that he actually is the trainee of your new boss, who is in fact his father. He asks you out after your meeting with HR, but you still need to settle down and start getting the ropes of how things work in London.

He takes you to your favourite restaurant. He remembered… You sit at the best table of the restaurant, and while doing some small talk, he mentions that he will be the one training you for the job. He talks about his future in the company, and how he will take the reins soon because his father will retire in less than a year. Suddenly, he gets up, walks up to you, and gets on one knee. He says loudly: “Now that you’re here, I can’t let you go. Not again… Will you…" *Knock knock*.

“Yes?”, you say. “Stop daydreaming and get out of the shower, you need to get ready for your cegep graduation ceremony!”, your mother yells through the bathroom door.

You have been admitted to two university. One of them is a very renowned business school and the other one is known for its parties. You know that the renowned one would look the very best on your resume, but the other one seems to be the most fun.

This university will definitely cause you liver failure! During your first semester, you skipped so many classes that you were on the verge to fail it all. The guidance counselor wants to meet with you to talk about the future. She tells you to take your education seriously or you will not be able to study any longer at this university.

You followed the guidance counselor's advice and started taking your education seriously. Your Management teacher thinks that you have a future in this domain and offers you a job right after you finish university. He offers you to become a trainee in the company, and he wants to give you on-the-job training so that you know all of the ins-and-outs of the company before starting to work as an actual employee. However, working at this company is not tempting at all. The job description is extremely boring and you have no interest in taking the job. But it pays extremely well...

You have spent two weeks working at the company. You realized that management is not the field that you want to work in. One day, a customer comes into your office. He is very weird. You do not feel comfortable around him for some obscure reason. Actually, his face is familiar. But from where? He hasn't spoken yet. He just sat in front of you. Then, something clicks in your head. He is... *Knock knock*.

Great! You chose happiness before money! Now what? Maybe, you could start up your own business? You have always loved the idea of becoming an entrepreneur one day. You could create a sport brand of clothes and sell it. You could hire one of your friends from school. You would need to find a designer to help you design the clothes, you will then need to find a company that would produce them, find a place to sell them, maybe you could do... *Knock knock*.
