A Special Morning.

Alex wake up earlier this morning. She prepared for an important moment. She has an interview for a new job. She was very excited to work in a high school as the intern of the psychologist. She has been studying in psychology for 4 years. She was ready for the internship but, she was very anxious about it. She left earlier to make sure she won't be late. When she arrived at the school, she realized that she forgot to eat breakfast.

After she had her bagel and her coffee, she came back to the school. The instructor was already in her office. She was very lucky because it was 8:55. She came into the office and officially meet M. Pouliot. She gave him a good first impression. But then, he read an email and he started look obsess. There was a big silence in the office.

She walked to the cafeteria and heard a professor talking to the phone. The professor argued with the other person. Then, he snapped a bye and slammed his phone down. Alex stayed away, she changed her way. She went take her yogurt after a few minutes. She did want to get mixed up to his conversation.

Mr Pouliot explained to Alex that she will have five students to see each week. Also, she will have to do an activity for all the students of the school. Alex asked him what kind of activity he wanted. He answered that he wanted any kind of activity that is related to psychology and it have to be interesting for teenagers. She had two ideas: Make an activity about how to manage anxiety or how to be a helper for LGBTQ people.

Alex asked Mr Pouliot about what he did before being a psychologist in a high school. He explained to her that he was doing research. He worked on mouses to analyze theirs physiology reactions when they are stress. He examined their hearts beat, the dilatation of their eyes, their blood pressure and the repercussions after. He was very interesting about what stress does at long term. He found that adolescence is very important in the management of stress. This is why he choose to work in a high school. Now, he can give strategies to teens that live with a lot of stress or anxiety. Mr Pouliot asks Alex if psychology was her first choice.

Alex wanted to base the activity on strategies easy to use for teenagers and students. She remembered her when she was younger and what helped her. She did a lot of running when she was stress. She did some research and she found a survey about strategies teenagers use when they are tense. There was art, sport and music. Alex tough that yoga, meditation and reading could be also good for them. She had good strategies to talk about but, she did know how to present them. Alex asked Mr Pouliot. He told her that she could make an activity about a theme on lunch break each week. After a couple of weeks, she will have talk about all those themes. Alex found that this was a good idea. One thing on track. Now, what she did?

Alex decided to do the activity to help LGBTQ people. She remembered that teenagers were a lot in research about their sexual orientation and their gender. Furthermore, transsexuality is more present because, people accept more to be themselves, so it was important for Alex to sensitized teens about this subject. She concluded after reflections that she will do an awereness event. She will invite all the families of the school, even the teachers. She will give a conference, show a video, give resources, sell things that money will go to an organisation... She had many ideas for this activity. She contacted the transgender creative kids organisation for things to sell that evening. She researched video of someone transgender who tell what is to be transgender. This activity was going very well.

Alex walked a little faster to make sure she didn't have be seen by the man. She walked in the direction of the washrooms. When she arrived, she didn't remember where was the office. She looked on her phone. Her phone wasn't opening, it didn't have battery. She didn't know what to do. She ran to the secretary to ask where was the office of Mr Pouliot, the psychologist. It was 8:55. She wasn't to be late. A man saw her and asked her what she was looking for. She recognized the man that was on a call. She told him that she was looking for Mr Pouliot's office.The man said: You can follow me, I'm going to my office. When they arrived at the office, Alex had to know what to say or to do.

She arrived at the office of her supervisor. It was too late. She arrived at 9:02 and her new teacher was the worst comprehensive on lateness. What Alex will do?

Her internship was going awfully. She was late on her first day. Showing initiative was she found the best to prove to Mr Pouliot that she was a serious intern. Mr Pouliot explained her internship. She was listening carefully. At the first occasion, she wanted to show him that this intern was very important for her. What she should do?

Alex took all student files. She looked at them quickly. Mr Pouliot told her that the students she had to seen today was Jacob or Elie. She read Jacob's file. Jacob is an anxious teen that needed support weekly to establish strategies or to be listened. She finished reading his file. After, she read Elie's file. Elie is a student who is very implicated in activities of school. She added a "E" on Eli at her name. Elie needed Alex's help for this big change and had tools to make others around her. Alex was very excited to see both of them. She had to choose the first one.

Alex wasn't a very devoted student. She was the one who was always disrupting her classes with her jokes. She had a lot of difficulties at school. She didn't have good grades because of her behaviors. She left high school at 16 years old to work in a florist shop. Her boss motivated her to go back to school. She came back to adult courses. She had the greatest marks she have ever had! She was more attentive and active in her learning. She had so good grades that she applied in psychology at McGill University and she had been accepted a few weeks later.

She was confident about her career choice.

She was stressful about every thing she did after that. Her stress made it very difficult for her to succeed her internship. What ever, she did so great that Mr Pouliot referred her to his school director.

There were two students who intrigued her more than others. The first one was Elie. Elie was a transexual student who recently had surgeries. Elie was intimidated from other students. She had a struggle to be part of a group because she is rejects of them. She is frequently alone. The second student is Jacob. He was a very implicated student in extracurricular activities. He was in the student radio, in the organizing committee of the prom and president of the reading club. With all those responsibilities, the end of high school, the beginning of CEGEP and some family problems, he was anxious and had trouble to handle all his stress. Her internship was going incredibly well. She was confident about her career choice.

Alex looked at her class's notes. There wasn't that much information about it. She looked for the internet but, there was not a lot of information that had good sources. She called one of her university's teacher to ask her about a book that she could read. Her teacher referred her a writer and sociologist to search for. Alex went to the university's library. She read for a week end all the book. She learned full of details about the subject. She was more equipped for the activity and for helping Elie who is a transgender teen she will see for her internship. Her internship was going incredibly well. She was confident about her career choice.
