My career as an entrepreneur

College studies.

I’m studying business management at Ahuntsic College to become an entrepreneur, while also playing football and still chasing a childhood dream of becoming a professional athlete one day. This is my final year of college studies and I’m debating whether I should continue football or stop after college, because that will impact my decision on which I’m going to attend university after college.

Choice 1 : Stop playing football after college

college

Go to the University of Montreal.

I stopped playing football after college, I’ve graduated with my degree in business management. I chose a university that will keep me relatively close to home, so I could still have all my family and friends around me. After 1 year at the University of Montreal my studies are going well, I miss playing football but that gives me more time to dedicate to school and start to think about what I want to do after finishing my degree.

Choice 1 : Graduate and go get a job

Choice 2 : Graduate and go do an internship

Go to Saint Mary's University.

I continued to play football after college, that impacted my university choice because I ultimately chose a school where I was comfortable for academics but also sports, I graduated from college with my degree and moved to Halifax to attend Saint Mary’s University. After a full year there the change of reality from Montreal was hard at first being far away from family and friends but I got to understand that those are sacrifices you must make to chase your dreams and aspirations. I’m focused to graduate with my degree and try to go play professional football.

After graduating from the University of Montreal with my degree, I decided to apply for an internship outside of Canada, at Amazon’s expansion headquarters in Seattle, USA. Keep working at TD bank.

I kept on working at the TD bank that I first applied to and been working at since I graduated. During a long time, it’s been kind of a dead-end job because for a long time I was only assigned to do basic tasks that I didn’t get experience or knowledge from, but I finally got promoted to a better role that also comes with better pay, so I can save up money to try to start my own company in the future.

Professional football career.

I got drafted in the late rounds of the CFL draft I tried out for; therefore, the money wasn’t that high because I wasn’t an early round draft pick, but I worked hard to earn a second contract that would pay a lot better, and after a 5-year career I’ve decided to retire to preserve my health because during the last couple years I’ve been experiencing a lot of injuries and stress.

Open my own business after years of saving money from bank job.

After years of working at TD bank and living on tight budget to save up money to open my own business, I’ve finally saved up an amount that I consider to be enough to pay for all the expenses of opening up my own business and also enough to cover the fact that the first couple years I might not make any profit but indeed lose money because that’s pretty much always how it goes when first opening up a business. So, I opened my business and worked very hard these first couple years to make sure it’s going to be a success.

That process was sped up by the fact that I already earned enough money from my athletic career to cover the fees needed to open a company and, I’ve formed a lot of relationship with a lot of highly placed people that can help me with promotion, clientele … etc.
