Choosing my career pattern.

At the end of the semester, I will be finishing my Accountant and Management Technology at Ahuntsic College. I decided to continue my journey as an Accountant but I still don't know if I should start working as an Accountant for the security company I'm actually working or go to the University to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) at HEC Montreal.

Choice 1 : Working as an Accountant.

Working as an Accountant.

I decided to work at my job as an Accountant because I already know a lot about this company. My on the job training will be quick and easy because I already know a lot about the company. My boss decided to hire me because he was getting tired of doing all the Accounting by himself. I also decided to go with this company because my boss is getting older, and he might sell the company soon. I could decide to buy my boss company or keep working as an Accountant for the company.

Choice 1 : Buy my boss company.

Choice 2 : Keep working as an Accounting for the company.

Going to HEC Montreal.

I decided to go at HEC Montreal to get a master in Accounting. By getting my master in Accounting, I will be able to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Getting this master will help me get a better job. The CPA certification could help me get a job in a big Accounting Company.

Choice 1 : Working for a big Accounting Company.

Buy my boss company.

My boss decided that it was time for his retirement. He also decided to sell his company after managing it all by himself for 30 years. When I heard he was selling his company, I jumped at the chance and bought the company. With the purchase of the company, I secured myself a job for the rest of my life. When I am at the age of retiring, I will be able to sell the company to ensure myself money for my retirement. The biggest decision I had to make after buying the company was if I wanted to pay an Accountant or if I wanted to do all the job by myself.

Choice 1 : Paying an Accountant.

Choice 2 : Doing the Accounting myself.

Keep working as an Accounting for the company.

My boss decided to sell the company after managing it all by himself for 30 years. Even though he sold his company to a bigger security company, I decided to stay as an Accountant for the company. By combining both companies, I now have a lot more work to do but my salary haven't changed. The ambiance in the company also changed after the sell because we are a lot more employees than before. I now regret a little bit my decision of staying in the company because the relation with my boss as really changed and I liked it better before, because I was closer to my boss and felt more important by being more involve on the money side of the company. I am now wondering if I should stay in the company or leave.

Working for a big Accounting Company.

After finishing my master in accounting and receiving my CPA certification, I sent my resume to multiple companies. I got called back by two companies, one small one and really big one. After considering both possibilities, I decided to go with the bigger company. The company I am working for is currently one of the four biggest Accounting firm in Canada. The firm I work for is called KPMG and I choose this firm because I wanted a job with more action and better salary. I also choose this job because the company offers really good health insurances compare to the other company that contacted me. When I decided to come work for KPMG, I knew that it would be a better job for me not only during my years of working for them but also after my retirement because we have a really good pension. The pension was a big factor of why I choose this company because I will be able to have an amazing retirement.

Paying an Accountant.

I had a lot of work to do after buying my boss company, so I decided to hire an Accountant to take care of all the money management. I decided that it would be better for me and the company to put all my energy on the contracts we had and on trying to get even more contracts. I think that paying an Accountant was the best decision at start because it took a lot of stress off my shoulders and saved me a lot of time. Unfortunately, my accountant wasn't really competent and some problems occurred after 1 year and a half.

Doing the Accounting myself.

Even though I had a lot of work to do after buying my boss company, I thought that it would be better for me to do the Accounting because it would save me money. In fact, doing the Accounting by myself made me safe money on an employee. It was adding a lot of pressure on my shoulders because it was a lot of work. Even if it were stressful, I still think that it was the best decision because it allowed me to safe money and helped me pay the mortgage I needed to buy the company.

Staying in the company.

Even if the company's ambiance changed a lot, I decided to keep working as an Accountant in the company because I've been there for many years and I've been able to get a better salary. My salary was a positive point that make me stay because I didn't want to start again at the bottom of the salary scale for another company. I also stayed in the company because with all the experience I have in the company, I could get a promotion and become the accounting manager instead of having a dead-end job.

Leaving the company.

The new ambiance made me quit my job because I felt like I lost importance in the company because of all the new employees. I was also scared of staying in the company as an Accountant and finding myself with a dead-end job. I finally found a job with Metro as an Accountant.

My retirement.

After working for KPMG for 40 years and becoming an Accounting manager, I decided to take my retirement and travel around the world. I saved a lot of money during my career to make sure that I would be able to travel a lot. In addition, my money saved and my pension gives me a lot of financial freedom.

Accountant problems.

After buying my boss company, I decided to hire an Accountant, so I would have less work and less stress about doing everything. Unfortunately for me, my Accountant didn't meet my expectations. I had full trust in my Accountant, so I let him manage a lot by himself but realized after 1 year and a half that I should've checked what he was doing because he almost put the company in debt. I found out that he was buying a lot of equipment and useless things with the company's money.

Choice 1 : Getting the company back on track.

Paying the mortgage.

Doing all the accountant by myself was clearly the best decision I could've done because it allowed me to safe money by not paying an employee. The money I saved from doing everything by myself also gave me the chance of paying my mortgage in only 5 years. I was really happy to pay back the mortgage in 5 years because I'm not so stressed about money anymore. All the money I'm making with the company now is all profit and this is making me really happy to see that the hard work is finally paying off.

Becoming an Accounting Manager.

After many years of working for the company, I finally got the promotion I worked so hard to get. I am now the new Accounting Manager and I can't wait to see what the future will bring. I have a lot of ideas on how to make the company save money or at least manage it a lot better. Now that I am the new manager, I will have impact on who gets hired as an Accountant and I think I will be able to put up a great team.

Working as an Accounting at Metro Inc.

My new work is a lot better than the last one because I am now working for one grocery store. Metro hired me to be the Accountant of their biggest store in Quebec. I really like my new job because I am the only one doing the accounting at the grocery store. The fact that I am all by myself is really fun because I don't have any pressure of always having my boss looking at the work I'm doing. During my interview, my boss also told me that if I was doing a really good job, I could get promoted to store manager and manage the entire grocery store. When my boss told me that, I immediately jumped on the occasion and accepted the job.

Getting the company back on track.

After finding out that my Accountant wasn't good and firing him, I decided to do the Accounting by myself instead of hiring another Accountant. It took me almost 4 years to be able to bring back the company's financial state to where it was when I bought the company. Even if I putted a lot of time and energy to be able to manage all the company by myself, I am glad I did because the company is way bigger now and I'm thinking of expending the company.

Building my team.

After being promoted to Accounting Manager, I was able to build my own team of Accountants and I decided to hire Accountants that just got out of University. I decided to go with young Accountants because I knew that I would be the first to show them how it works in a company. By being the first one to show them the ways of a business Accountant, I also knew that they wouldn't have any bad habits from working at other companies. I also hired young Accountants because I knew that there is a chance for them to stay for many years if they liked the company ambiance.

Being the grocery store manager.

After only two years of working as the grocery store Accountant, Metro offered me to take the grocery store in charge. When I got offered the store, I was really shocked because I never thought that it would come this quick. As soon as I got hired, I thought that I would have to work as the Accountant for at least 5 to 10 years before getting the promotion. Even if I was shocked, I immediately accepted the promotion, and I am really happy to be the store director now. The salary is also pretty good compare to the other I had before.

Expending the company.

After being able to put the company back on tracks and to make it profitable, I decided to expend the company. I decided to make an offer to a competitor and buy him. Even if I am going through the same hard times I went when I bought the company, I learned my lesson and I know how to make sure that everything goes perfectly. I know it's going to be a couple of hard years but I really think it will be worth it after all. Expending the company will also give me the opportunity to make more money and to sell it for more money and live a better retirement.
