The beginning of college.

It was the beginning of college. I started thinking about my program. I had to make an important choice.

Choice 1 : Do my homework every week.

Choice 2 : Start another show on Netflix.

I am not usually a student that pulls straight A`s. Though I have great time management and am able to pull off most of my assignment. I also have this tendency to put aside some homework. I used to do a lot of multitasking, and so my concentration was all over the place. That tendency of mine can honestly be maddening, since it gave me less time to be thorough with my homework. Whenever I was tired during the day, I would notice that my productivity levels were rather low. I might think at first that I was pulling off my homework and that I was doing a great job, but now I try to give it a rest before submitting any cursory work. This way I can make sure to be more attentive and thoughtful. I pulled off great work by reviewing most of my work once I have been well-rested. My goal is to get good grades all year long.

I looked over my desk and decided that it's only the beginning of the year. Nothing big has happened yet and that new show on Netflix just couldn't wait. The next week, my teacher decided to correct the homework with the group. He thought that it would help break the ice and also get to know some names. He would read each question and then pick a student randomly to answer it. I made myself so little but when he finally called my name, I suddenly felt like the elephant in the room. He looked at me then turned to face the classroom. "You never get a second chance to make the first impression." He looked back at me and added " Luckily for you, this is only the beginning, and I highly suggest you get started as soon as possible." He passed the new homework to the group, and it was the end of the class. I was working after and ran to the bus stop, so I wouldn't be late.

The first weeks have been much easier for me since I have made sure to do all my homework for my classes. The same way my productivity level has increased, I have given more attention to the dynamic in class, and it has become easier for me to keep my focus. I've made a few friends as well, and we have been sitting front row together since the beginning of the semester. We help each other whenever we can, and I make sure to ask questions during classes to keep up with the teacher. I have been working less than 20 hours a week now since the semester has started. My friends think that it is a lot and want me to consider lowering my hours.

I usually work an average of 25 to 35 hours a week if my school schedule allows me. I have been doing my homework since the beginning of the semester, but I am extremely tired. I have been working as well, and doing my homework after work has not been easy. I feel like the pile of things I have to do for school is getting bigger by the minute. My nights are getting shorter as well. I admit that I have been falling asleep in front of my readings too often now. My friends and family have been complaining that they haven't seen me in a while. The pressure of school and work has definitely gotten intense.

With school full-time and my part-time job, it has been rather chaotic and my boss seems to want to add more hours to my schedule. I do not like confrontation, but I wish she would be more considerate with me since she knows I go to college. I have been working there for many years now and have shown my loyalty to her and the company more than once.

I confronted my boss about the new schedule she sent us earlier today. I told her that I usually work 20 hours a week and could not possibly work the 30 hours she had just scheduled me for. She told me that we have been short-staffed and that everybody has to pitch in as much as possible. She added that she made sure to schedule me outside of my class hours and that she really needed me to step up for her.

I decided to step up, not only for my work, but for myself. I just need to make sure to prioritize my time now and minimize the distractions. Anything happens, I have friends at school and coworkers that I can rely on.

This is the best student job I have ever found. I intend to keep this job until I find a good position as a paralegal. I will pursue my studies at the University of Montreal to become a lawyer.
