I just finished High School. It is time to choose my CEGEP program. I decide to apply to Ahuntsic College, but I am not sure about the program I want to study. I would like to work as a lawyer. I can either try Paralegal Technology, a program related to law or go into something more general like Social Science.
Choice 1 : Apply in Paralegal Technology.
Choice 2 : Apply in Social Science.
I feel really happy with my choice, and I am confident that Paralegal Technology will help me achieve my goal of becoming a lawyer. However, Ahuntsic College, in Montreal, is far from my house. So, I have to decide whether I stay home and take the train for almost 3 hours every day or if I stay at the student residence of the college.
Choice 1 : Stay home.
Choice 2 : Stay at the student residence.
I am not motivated by the program and I feel like it won't get me anywhere, I only like Psychology classes. So, I decide to quit. I work at a dead-end job for the rest of my life. Boring.
Choice 1 : Try again.
After a couple of weeks, I am really tired. Taking the train every day, working at my dead-end job on the weekends, having more and more assignments due is stressing me out. I can't do it anymore.
Choice 1 : Try again.
I am happy to stay at the student residence. I live two minutes from college and I have enough time to do my homework, work to earn money and have some free time for my hobbies. I have now been studying Paralegal Technology for the past 2 years. I want to have straight A's because I would like to go to university to become a lawyer. In one of my classes, I had to do a mock selection interview. My preparation for this assessment was rather cursory, and since I'm a really shy person, the first time did not go that well and I did not get a good grade enough. The situation is really maddening for me because I need to pull off better grades to get into law school.
Choice 1 : Abandon my dream.
Choice 2 : Put more effort.
I stay close to my family and friends and I have support from them. I keep a balanced life and have good grades. I make new friends in my residence, and they offer me to go to a wine & and cheese with them. However, I have a lot of study and homework to do.
Choice 1 : Stay in my apartment and study alone.
Choice 2 : Go to the wine & cheese with my new friends.
I get discouraged and think the program may not be for me. So, I decide to change my program. I am accepted in Social Science.
Choice 1 : Try again.
I prepared myself more thoroughly for the second interview. I met the teacher online, we talked about my first interview, and he told me what I could improve that would be beneficial. I listened to the teacher's advice to enhance my performance. I improved my time management and I prepared well in advance. The content of my interview was then much more thoughtful and thorough. Arriving at the second interview, I felt ready and put aside my embarrassment. That time, it went really well. Finally, at my second interview I pulled off an 91%, and I was proud of myself even though I would still have like to get a perfect score! My last session to complete my program in Paralegal Technology is an internship. I am rather excited to be able to apply concretely what I learned in school in a professional context. Two internship choices are presented to me, one in a notary's office and one in a law firm.
Choice 1 : Internship in a law firm.
Choice 2 : Internship in a notary's office.
I chose the notary's office internship even if it is not directly related to my dream job. I knew the experience from this internship would still come in handy when I enter the professional world. I discovered a new passion and choose to work as a paralegal in the notary's firm for now instead of going to university.
Choice 1 : Try again.
As an intern, I was able to learn all the skills needed in my chosen field. I find out what the job of a lawyer was really all about, by observing and working with trial lawyers. I experienced what a day as a paralegal in a law firm was like. I also benefited from getting practical experience that would help me in the future. Getting a foot in the door as an intern for sure helped me to make valuable contacts in the field of law that will come in handy when I will look for permanent work after university. The internship gave me the opportunity to test drive a job, was a valuable way to learn the ropes, created contacts, and validated my career decision. I am really happy to pursue my studies in law after my internship, I am ready and less stressed about this new stage of my life. I now know that the job of lawyer would suit me. It is now time to apply to university. I have two choices.
Choice 1 : Apply to the University of Montreal, in Montreal.
Choice 2 : Apply to Queen Mary University, in London.
I was motivated when I first started this new stage of my life, in a different country. I hope to gain new experiences and flourish as a person. Now, I feel sad and lonely. I have trouble staying focused on my work, studies, and during classes. I miss my family and friends a lot. I am thinking of going back home to Montreal.
Choice 1 : Go back home.
As I was about to leave London, I met someone. While I was studying for my last exam of the session before going back to Montreal, I ran into a boy at the local cafe. It was love at first sight. Should I still go back home?
Choice 1 : Stay in London.
Choice 2 : Go back home to your family and friends.
I became a lawyer in London and had two children with the love of my life.
Choice 1 : Try again.
The plane taking me home has technical problems during the flight. The plane crashes and everyone dies.
Choice 1 : Try again.
I have a lot of fun with my new friends at the event. We eat, drink, and laugh all evening. Once finished, one of the guys offers to give us a lift. He has been drinking a lot, so I suggest to call a taxi, but my friends insist that I get on with them.
Choice 1 : Accept the lift and go with my friends.
Choice 2 : Take a taxi alone.
Responsible choice. My studies remain my priority and I do not lose sight of my goal. I get good marks on the end-of-term exams. I finish university and have the opportunity to do on-the-job training.
Choice 1 : Refuse on-the-job training, I want to have a real job now.
Choice 2 : Accept on-the-job training.
My new friends and I have a car accident and end up in the hospital. I have a broken leg and arm, it will delay my studies.
Choice 1 : Try again.
I have difficulties finding a job as a lawyer without experience. I do several interviews and end up being hired in a small law firm in the suburbs. After twenty years of working at this dead-end job, I am tired of it. I never have challenge at work. The firm where I work is only assigned small banal files. I need something new and motivation. I have a new opportunity in a large firm.
Choice 1 : Go to the job interview.
Choice 2 : Retire now.
I have an OJT for a period of three months before starting my actual job by myself. The person who trains me is already an employee. She really knows the ins and outs of the job. She shows me everything I need to know and really helps me to learn the tasks that my job as a lawyer required. I practice doing them, and she helps me whenever I need. After my on-the-job training, I get hired in the same renowned firm. OJT allowed me to learn my job while actually doing it, I also became familiar with the office environment and my colleges without any bias, I even made some friends. Most importantly, I acquired experience while earning a wage and after my OJT, I got a real job at the law firm and I felt confident and prepared. After 45 years of hard work, I feel ready to retire.
Choice 1 : Retire now.
I feel ready to retire. I put aside the drive of work that passionate and encouraged me during the past years. I now want to live new adventures, take time for me, travel and simply feel free without having the same work routine. Now that drudgery is behind me, I can start my new life. Fortunately I am financially ready too. My mortgage is fully paid. During my years of hard work, I saved money. Each year I set aside 30% of my annual salary for my retirement. In addition to that, I had calculated my pension in advance in order to follow the lifestyle I wanted to have once I retired and set aside enough money for it. While retiring, I am happy but still feel a little stressed at the same time. Setting aside part of my income allows me to live my retirement without financial stress while doing activities to keep me in shape. From now, I really enjoy the first adventures of my golden years!
Choice 1 : The end.
My interview went well and I got the job. After a few weeks of working there, I started having doubts about the large firm policy. After some time of personal investigation, I realized that the renowned law firm was defrauding its clients. Since fraud is a crime and should never take place in a law firm, especially where we are supposed to help clients, not steal their money. I decided to report it to the police.
