End of cegep.

After 3 years of hard work at Cegep, it’s now time to think about my future. I’ve been pulling off straight A’s since the beginning of my program to get the best opportunities in the fashion industry. I can start working right when I finish cegep but it may be better for me to go to university. Since it’s time to apply, I got to make my decision.

Choice 1 : Apply to university.

Choice 2 : Start to work in my field of study.

Apply to university.

There are big advantages that come with this decision, more opportunities and a better salary when I start to work in my field. This is why I chose to continue school. Since I completed a Fashion Marketing diploma, two programs are interesting for me. I can choose Marketing to get better in the field or Fashion Design to learn new things and become more versatile.

Start to work in my field of study.

Cegep has been too much overwhelming for me. I was working overtime to afford my rent while having a ton of homework to do. I can’t continue to live like this, so I decided to apply for jobs in my field. My dream job is to work on the marketing team of Levis but it may be too much optimistic for my experience. To be sure to get a job, it would be wiser for me to apply to many easier jobs.

Marketing has always been my favorite topic in class, my choice was obviously going to be this one. I’ve been accepted at McGill and today was my first day. The surprise when I came in class and saw Rachel sitting in the front row! I’ve worked with her at Starbucks, and she got fired for sexual harassment. She invited me to her party tonight, it would be nice to go and meet new people, but I already have a lot of homework to do….

Apply in fashion design.

I’ve learned so much about fashion, marketing, communications and business in the last 3 years, but I felt like I needed to be more versatile. The Fashion Design course looked perfect for me, and I was really excited about it. After two weeks in the program, I feel like my time management is really bad and I’m already exhausted. I don’t know if I can continue, maybe I should quit and look for a job….

Choice 1 : Quit school and start to work.

Choice 2 : Continue school.

Apply for my dream job.

I was really surprised when Levis called me literally two days after I applied. There was a vacant position, and they thought my profile was perfect for it. I learned that the position was in fact an internship during the interview. Starting as an intern can be a good foot in the door and I may get a permanent position if I do great, but it wasn’t really what I was hoping for. Maybe, I should continue school to get better opportunities.

After waiting for two weeks, I got a call from a small business in Montreal, they are hiring sellers. I’m not sure if I should accept the offer or wait for another call since this is a dead-end job.

Go to Rachel's party.

Everyone in my class was going to Rachel’s party, I needed to go, not to be seen as the boring student. It was a nice night, until Rachel’s boyfriend started flirting with me. She completely lost her mind and I got kicked out of her house. As I don’t want to get sucked up in school drama, I will stay away from her as of now.

I need to stay focused on school and I don’t want to rush all my homework, I don’t have time to go to parties. I feel like an adult now and I’m really optimistic about my future. Nothing can stop me!

Quit school and start to work.

That was the best decision I took in my life! It took me 2 weeks to find a job but this vacation was needed for my health. I got hired as an accountant at Simons, it’s not really my dream job but I’m happy with it. I feel like my life now goes good and I’m confident about the future.

I just finished my first year of fashion design and it’s really an accomplishment. I don’t regret staying in school, I like what I’m doing. I’ll get to take care of my lack of sleep in the next weeks and I can now enjoy my summer. I can’t wait to get back to school in September.

My internship was really great, I found myself learning a lot of new things and the experience was amazing. My boss offered me a permanent position starting next week, I’m so happy. I now have my dream job!

I’m lucky it wasn’t too late to apply for university, I’m a bit disappointed but I’m sure it was a sign I wasn’t ready to work. I’ll come back in three years more prepared than ever!

I don’t know if I will have a better offer in the next weeks, so it was better to accept this position. I have now completed my on-the-job training and I think I’ll like the job! I really hope I will not regret this decision.

I’ve studied too much to be a seller. I’ll keep waiting for a call and I hope to get hired somewhere soon. I’m pretty much losing my time right now but I think I deserve this vacation!
